I thought the window only closed on Friday.
28 August 2018 at 5:08 pm #171445I thought the window only closed on Friday.Quite correct otter got my dates wrong I’m still confident Nick will stay
He says with everything crossed
28 August 2018 at 5:17 pm #171446What is the club supposed to do though?
I’ve no doubt that the club has spoken to him about a new contract & he’s either indicated that he’s not interested or said that he is & discussions are ongoing but not certain. If there’s any indication that Powell won’t sign then the club has to listen to offers – at the moment we have an asset that (if on a long term contract) is worth £10mill-£15mill in today’s insane market
However, with less than a season to go on his contract, if he has indicated that he won’t sign a new one then the club has to make a decision about whether to lose that asset for nothing or lose it for the alleged £5mill that some clubs are offering now.
Takeover or not, Latics aren’t in a position to turn their nose up at £5mill club no matter who that player is28 August 2018 at 5:27 pm #171447I also believe he’ll stay, but how long for is open to debate. I think he indicated he was willing to sign again if the takeover went through so it’s obviously partly about money, but not exclusively so. Let’s face it, even after the takeover he could probably command a higher salary than we will be able to pay him.
But if he decides he’s going to run his contract down, it doesn’t matter if we are offered £5m or £50m.
28 August 2018 at 5:54 pm #171448These things will obviously be being discussed at Latics and the new owners will also be involved. They are purchasing the club and can not possibly want to lose what is probably the biggest assert at the club.
I personally think Nick will sign a new contract with us just like the two highly rated youngsters have just done.29 August 2018 at 1:59 am #171453This ‘Nick Powell moving on’ thing. On the WAFC we are told Powell is one of the players still available to be sponsored. If there was a likelyhood of him not being there in 3 days time would they really be asking for sponsors?? I can see potential for a sponsor being a bit peeeed orf.

Absolutely nothing – although I guess they could tell him that he won’t be picked, will train with the kids etc.
Not saying they would (or that it’d even be considered) but that’s about their only other option than saying okay & carrying on as normal31 August 2018 at 12:09 am #171462The list of players available for sponsorship has changed today and Powell isn’t on there, hopefully someone has sponsored him!!!!

Cole has joined Burton on loan so that explains his ommission.Windass will surely have been snapped up for sponsorship, lets hope the same applies to Powell.
31 August 2018 at 1:41 am #171464Either that or we have got shut of our prize assets for peanuts.
31 August 2018 at 2:02 am #171465Either that or we have got shut of our prize assets for peanuts.Well, we should know by this time tomorrow night.
31 August 2018 at 2:40 am #171466Wonder when we get to know anything about the world’s longest ever takeover saga.
Surely if the new owners are serious about taking us forward then Powell would be their first signing.
Also they should be asking serious questions about the Powell situation if he is allowed to go for peanuts, after all he is the biggest assett at the club after the land and real estate they are purchasing.31 August 2018 at 3:34 am #171467Wonder when we get to know anything about the world’s longest ever takeover saga.
