I reckon if they have players in mind for January there are a lot of other players other than Nick they should be considering replacing.

31 August 2018 at 2:51 pm #171472Either that or we have got shut of our prize assets for peanuts. If the interested clubs are only willing to pay peanuts, if you consider £5m to be peanuts, then what do you suggest the club should do if they are in fact hoping to cash in on an asset who has decided he wants away and can do that for nothing at the end of the season?
31 August 2018 at 3:18 pm #171473Not a great deal we could do Sammy if those circumstances arise but Nick is a Championship quality player and if we are to compete in the league that’s the level of player we need. That is unless we just want to improve players for others and continue being a yo yo club.
Yes I know we are a small club with a small budget and on paper can’t offer to pay crazy money (which would be the main reason for him to leave) so we are in a catch 22 situation where we hope a player could play for us for what we offer or we get a sugar Daddy prepared to gamble.
If he does go it will show we have neither yet.31 August 2018 at 3:46 pm #171474Seems to be a bit of logic in only update I can find this morning?

31 August 2018 at 3:53 pm #171476End of the day I can’t see many teams in this division letting a player of he’s quality to go for 5 million. Joke of a offer.

Joke of a offer. In the event he does want to leave your take on this would be to refuse to sell him at that price, if that’s all that’s being offered, and let him see out his contract so he can leave for nothing at the end of the season?
In effect your argument is his presence in the team would give us a better chance to stay in the Championship and the cost to the club is £5m, or £5m less to spend on players for next season.
31 August 2018 at 7:53 pm #171482He didn’t have a take on that scenario. Blueneons’s take was what you quoted and we all must agree that that is a perfectly valid and good point.
The lad is one of the classiest players we have ever had greed league years included.1 September 2018 at 3:16 am #171495Powell has played a blinder, telling Sharpy in January he wasn’t interseted in a move cos he’s happy at Wafc even though Brighton offered 10m.
He didn’t sign a contract extension then and still hasn’t? Poor show by our club imo.
If he doesn’t go by midnight tonight and hasn’t signed a contract extension either then another poor show by sharpy and Jackson.

Nick Powell wants to stay at Wigan. He has told “Lets hang on” and the reason no contract has been signed is that the takeover has not been finalised and Nick is waiting to get his offer from the new owners. He did say months ago that he wanted to stay if a takeover went through and it looks like he will keep his word if he accepts the offer put on the table. Lets hope so.
3 September 2018 at 4:08 pm #171555At the bigger clubs some players are on 30k plus and their not even good enough to clean Nick’s boots so it must be double me money or I’m offski .

Maybe his agent has been in regular discussion with them and his deal has been agreed. To be fair to Nick he has always said he will stay. Something stopped him going to his boyhood club when he had the chance. He could have easily put in a transfer request to go to one of these big clubs.

I hope so NL, he’s really matured as a player over the last year of two and is putting in some fantastic performances. Would be sickening to lose him to a rival for peanuts.
