I can be pretty sarcastic yes but things cannot be that bad when we are where we are despite how poor today was.

7 October 2018 at 5:05 am #172276I am actually really surprised at the lack of posts re the game today? Are you all just gob smacked at how shite we were? We were and have been for a few games now. I can feel a rot setting in similar to Uwe Rosler’s post honeymoon period!
7 October 2018 at 8:36 am #172277Jesus christ talk about an over reaction. Similarly, Cook might get the odd call wrong like he did today but again that doesn’t mean he is out of his depth. We’ve scored 4 goals in our last 8 games, 2 in 7 if you take out the Hull game and non in our last 4. Then we get a pasting by a team that leak goals for fun 2 to 3 per game is not an over reaction m8.
Cook claimed yesterday he had a full squad (bar Massey). If that was his best 11 then theres worrying times ahead. On his day Powell is a class act but when he’s off we struggle like hell. Without him on the field our midfield consist of a bunch of grafters who offer no service to Grigg or whoever.
Cook needs to make wholesale changes and stop been loyal to certain players like Dunkley who should have been straight swapped for Burn.
I’m still trying to figure out Burn for Powell. Look at yesterday’s bench bar Macmanaman it was p1ss poor.
Is Windass any better than Power ? Is Garner any better than Vaughan.
Cooks likes hard working players but that comes at a cost of any flair/skillfull type players who can conjure up that bit of magic when needed.
6 of our squad are under 20 years of age non of who will see on the pitch this season. This in turn makes for a rather thin squad, we lack in 1 or 2 quality players.
So looking at:-recent performances
Goals conceded
Goals scored
The lack of goal scoring chances
abit more quality in the middle to service Grigg
And the squad as a whole
I think were in our rights to be that bit worried.
If you wanna wear your rose tinted glasses that’s up to but in the famous words of Roy Walker,
“Say what you see ….!”7 October 2018 at 11:47 am #172278Absolutely top post fella.im waiting to see how we respond to our next four games.some thinking our home form is brilliant.early days.yesterdsy was a battering.the international break may have come at a good time.?
7 October 2018 at 12:40 pm #172280Knowing wigan, we’ll probably take points in our next 2 games.
7 October 2018 at 12:50 pm #172281Quest tv’s coverage absolutely toss.Only showed the red card tackle on Powell in Dean Ashtons post match analysis and no show at all of tackle on Morsy.Their penalty a joke but in truth they should have had 1 earlier. Walton will be disappointed with their first but terrible defending left him open.Tv coverage didn’t make us look any better….we were absolutely dire and how some posters keep waffling about a fluke, one off….come on weve been crap away for a while and even the recent home results were gained stuttering.
7 October 2018 at 1:06 pm #172284I’m still trying to figure out Burn for Powell. We started with four defenders – the two centre backs Cedric and Donkey and the two wing backs James and Anthoneeee.
The wing backs pressed forwards, but while James tried to find open spaces Robinson just pushed forward down a crowded wing, didn’t find himself in any space where he could use his speed, was tackled fairly easily and didn’t track back.
This left the centre backs exposed as Preston then push down our left flank. Kipre would move over to cover it, but it then left Dunkerley with a dilemma – does he shuffle left into the centre leaving our right flank open, or move right leaving a gap the size of the M6 up the middle.
If Powell hadn’t gone off injured I would have expected us to go to three at the back with Robinson off. Being forced to make a change for Powell, I suspect that PC made the decision to try that switch anyway, shoring up the defence with a “solid” line (yes, hindsight is marvellous) which would then allow James (who was excellent by the way) and Robinson a freer role to push forward without having to be concerned about defensive duties.
It was actually in my view an attacking change, but the players just didn’t rise to the challenge and reading between the lines of his post-match comments he had some very strong words with them behind closed doors.7 October 2018 at 2:08 pm #172288Thankfully I couldn’t make it yesterday and the game wasn’t on any of the streams I had available so I can’t comment on the performance but it was never going to be an easy game as people had said all week.
Position wise we should probably be the opposite way around, but we aren’t because Cook is doing a great job. We have poor results from time to time that is sport and a big loss to a local rival always hurts that little bit more, but it is how we react to it that matters for me.
I don’t expect us to get anything from any games this season except maybe Rotherham and Blackburn as they came up with us so any result is a bonus result, and we just need to do whatever to survive this season and build season on season until we can be seen as established at this level like I would aay Preston are.
Bad result? Yes.
Poor performance? Possibly.
End of the world? Not at all.7 October 2018 at 5:12 pm #172297Thankfully I couldn’t make it yesterday and the game wasn’t on any of the streams I had available so I can’t comment on the performance but it was never going to be an easy game as people had said all week.Position wise we should probably be the opposite way around, but we aren’t because Cook is doing a great job. Our goal this season was to stay up. Achieve that & it will be a good season.
