Nothing to do with the captain. It should be pre-determined by the manager and coaching staff who will take penalties. Only if that person has been substituted, sent off or reduced to a jibbering wreck by something strange, need that decision change.

Horc is welcome to that job, if it comes up, however, when it come to the understanding of what a Captain or Leader actually does then I feel I have you beat – hands down. Perhaps you need to read the views and thoughts of past great Team Captains and how they saw their role in the team – time does not change these protocols. The modern game is still played by human beings – however, you may have a different view on that ;)

Perhaps I don’t need to read anything to know that we have not had so many red cards/substitutions/jibbering wreck situations to warrant having 5 different penalty takers in the opening three months of the season. Now, if neither Uwe, you or Horc can make your mind up who that should be before kick-off, then I agree that the captain might as well make the decision. Now in our case, that decision-making has been pretty shit of late has it not, so should he be trusted with it?

This is not as funny as some people make it out to be, indeed I feel it highlights a very important problem within the team. That is one of leadership.
Yes, we do have Boyce (as the longest serving team member) to fill the regular slot but who really is the Captain out there? Who motivates the team? Who has the bottle to encourage (bollock) fellow team members who are not pulling their weight? Who gets the team message from the club to the playing staff? Who has the charisma to lead, guide and motivate?
Oh! and who should decide who takes the feckin penalties instead of “I touched the ball first, it’s mine” attitude? The Captain/Leader should be the one.

Oh aye, cos the day I jump to a demand to answer a question from anyone on this forum is the day I pack it all in. You flatter yourself if you think you can force me into continuing this boring discussion.
I joined in this thread for one reason only. That is to say – IMO – it should not be the captain who chooses a football club’s regular penalty taker, it should be the manager. You’ve then taken it all round the houses to talk about spurious phrases that may not may not be heard at various sporting events, a topic in which I have no interest whatsoever.
I am thoroughly bored with it now. Really.
