Covered every blade of grass. Lost possession once in 90 mins and that was receiving under pressure. Dogged, always wanting the ball. Ran things. MOM today.

By far MOM (again) yesterday. As the OP mentioned covered every blade of grass & battled from start to finish. He epitomises what this team is about. Surprised witchut? got it. Poor game by his standards & jacobs IMO for that matter. But perkins (at this rate – player of the season(so far)

Thought it was one of his poorer games yesterday, yes ran around a lot as usual, but gave away the ball a lot more than usual and a lot of his short balls never found their man, lost a few tackles that he would normally of won. Doesn’t take away my overall opinion of him though that he is normally reliable, solid and 101% committed.

Jacobs for me didn’t do anything yesterday, James needs to do more when he cuts inside, an needs to use his right peg more – gets forward a lot but absolutely no end product, and ends up scampering back. Needs more confidence.

Every time Morgan got on the ball by heart rate increases ten fold, for a captain I don’t see him doing any shouting or organising, thought Perkins would be a much better choice IMO

Power seems to be coming on more an more every game, and does do a lot of shouting and organising, looks like a great prospect we have.

Donovan, prefer him at RWB, gives us a bit down the right hand side.

Good to see McCann has a licence to roam from the back through the midfield at times, just need to make more of those opportunities and chances when he does go forward.

Grigg – Now he is one player I just don’t know about yet. Yesterday he was on the floor more times than off it. Seems to be a bit lazy, doesn’t put enough pressure on defenders, seems to jog around rather than get stuck in. Still, if he can score the goals that get us promotion, I suppose that’s a good trade-off. Still expect a lot more from him though.

So that’s my thoughts anyway, on both yesterday and in general. Very happy with the progression we are making, especially the fight and desire to get a goal until the 96th minute :-) Keep it up lads.

That wasn’t what I saw, he is a rock at the back, reads the game so well it doesn’t matter that he is not that quick. One of the main reasons why we are where we are in my opinion.
MOM for me yesterday was Don Love. :)

Morgan has been a rock for us this season in the games that he has played. I think crammy is referring to a couple of incidents in the game where even i had my heart in the mouth.

He distinctly said ” every time he got on the ball” not sure why you have assumed he meant that it was couple of specific incidents. Everyone to their opinion, it just shows how we all see things differently. The sooner we get Pearcey back the better, him and Captain Morgan are a formidable pairing in my opinion.

Everyone knows the majority of Latics fans have always loved a player like Perkins, who does what a Perkins does, some of us prefer what I’d call better footballers, someone who can pass, move, score a goal a bit like a Cisco, that majority who like a Perkins seem to find a playmaker, a thinker say, a bit lazy.

Unfortunately the division we are in demands a Perkins type player and he does his job well, if all you want is a breaker up of play and someone who gets his foot in. MOM is a way off view of the match imo.

I had neutrals with me on Saturday (Palace supporters) they thought Swindon were the better footballing side when they had the ball and we lacked belief, I thought we set out thinking we’d piss the game as is what happens in these types of fixtures and it doesn’t always work like that. They also said the No9 has to toughen up and were surprised when I told them his goals tally, last season and his cost.

One last thing, we didn’t pressure anything like enough when their keeper was up to his tricks. We’ve all seen what teams do to us when we maul about with it. Convinced we’d have got a goal sooner if we’d pushed up and defended from the front when this was occurring. How could the manager not see that?

Forgot to mention Jacobs, nothing went for him on Saturday. My lad’s favourite player and thinks it’s down to him changing his boots, he kept shouting for him to “get your orange boots on” modern football eh?

I’ve also got a feeling that Wildschut somehow will manage to prove disappointing overall, despite having it all in his locker.

I think the fact that some of the more exciting players underperformed made Perkins’ boiled beef and carrots performance stand out because if he hadn’t put in what he did, Swindon may even have nicked the game. I’d rather not Perkins stand out as much, as he did on Saturday, because it’s the sign of a workmanlike performance from the team. As it was.

Wildschut, Grigg and Jacobs were disappointing on Saturday. I still like Wildschut’s approach even though it went wrong for him more often than not in this game and I’m pretty sure Grigg’s a far better player than he showed himself to be on Saturday, as is Jacobs.

Anyway, we won 1-0 and that’s all that matters really.

With all due respect, that’s bollocks.

I think Perkins has been consistently the best player for us this season, and he has, on more than one occasion, been the man behind the last man and bailed the back three out.

He isn’t there to create chances, score goals, make clever runs etc, and he’s a completely different player to Junior with a totally different role, hence why it’s always Max Power that makes way for Junior, not Perkins.

He’s our Division One version of Lee Cattermole, and he does the hard work for the more creative players.

However, to counter this, I was also a staunch defender of the likes of Gomez and Landzaat on this and other forums when many called them lazy, gutless, show-ponies etc.

It is possible to appreciate both types of players, and to have a complete team you need both types of players.

As for Swindon being a better footballing side, have your friends’ judgement been clouded by that short time they were under Pulis’ management?

They were as average-to-poor as we were, but most of their attacks came on the counter. Maybe it was the threat of a long-ball and counter attack that stopped Caldwell going for all out pressure in their half (we did it in the first 15 minutes but eased back when the quick goal didn’t come).

Woooooaaahhhh!! Hold on there horsey. You having a bad morning Standish?

I didn’t say everyone had the viewpoint I describe, but it’s known Latics fans in general like a Perkins over a Gomez, if anything you agree with me that there’s room for grit players and flair. Some just seem to go overboard (imo) on how great a player Perkins is.

The pass and move of Swindon was superb I thought, when they did it. They won’t be bottom 2 for long.

The Wildschut one is all my own prediction, it’ll be either right or wrong but he strikes me that he’ll be in and out rather than all the time.

As for the last post you made, I’d say your stepping over the mark a bit.

Probably the long drive through fog to Cheadle had me a bit tetchy….so, okay, I’ll go with you on the Perkins thing that yes, there are many who love the headless chicken types who don’t appreciate the need for creative players.

But there are a good number (at least from the people I know and speak to) that can appreciate the merits of both types of player.

I thought he played well on Sunday and he’s impressed me so far, but I’ll not go over the top on his praise because if we had a team of Perkinses, we’d win f-all.

As for my last comment – apologies if it offended. It was meant in relation to your glass half empty stance rather than anything against young Tez, who I am sure is a fine young chap.
