Well at least that’s the first day nerves out of the way. Not our greatest performance, but can’t really complain with the result. First draw on the opening day for a lonnggg time.
Quite pleasing to see how often we got into their area, unlike a lot of last season where we were breaking down outside the area and being reduced to pot shots. This time we seemed to be taking it just a bit too far. We were clearly the stronger team 2nd half.
Might be too early to say there’s definitely one team worse than us in this division, but I didn’t think Norwich were much cop.
I agree. We will get better with more games and would have won but for a fumble by Ali. At times we played well when we had the ball, we wasted lots of chances were on another day we would have scored 3.
Optimism for the season ahead is still high. We need to by a replacement for Charlie on the right hand side and with Hugo back down the middle we will be even better. With Alcaraz to come back into the team I think we will have a good season.One thing I learnt from yesterday’s game was that after seeing his reaction to the news of the switch , Moses does not want to play on the right.
I must admit he did look more dangerous on the left , so as Tini says we need a right sided attacker urgently.
I also hope De Santo’s near miss , the header , doesn’t turn out to be his “sliding doors” moment. If that had gone in he’s flying , instead he’s subbed minutes later.

And in any case, most teams improve the more they play together and this one played better as last season wore on (you said yourself in an earlier rant today that we were only “gash” for 3/4 of the season) so it stands to reason that there’s a good chance that this improvement will continue.
It’s probably too much of a logical, reasonable and positive viewpoint for you though, is it not?

Fair play to you, it’s your choice. But with an increasingly busy schedule ahead of me at work these days, I won’t be wasting much time and energy arguing the toss with you this season. I’ll leave you to enjoy your miserable existence alone ;)

I didn’t think on the balance of play we deserved to win, just my opinion.
I didn’t think on the balance of play we deserved to win, just my opinion.According to the newspaper I read today, although we had less possession than Norwich we had more territorial advantage (which I believe means we had more possession in the opposing half than they did). We also had three times more shots on target and had three times more blocked shots. This is not my opinion but statements made in a national newspaper which can be subject to scrutiny. We also hit the post and had a second penalty claim turned down. So, on the basis of these “facts” I would say that we did deserve to win the game and your opinion is worth diddly-squat.
Played well, had most shots in the league, looked quite gelled for the first game, Maybe a couple of suspect performances from our old friend Gomez and Lopez(first game) I was happy, Just unlucky and it was one of those things that we didn’t win. But i don’t think we should dwell on what could or maybe should have been as there is 2 winnable games coming up and the transfer window is still open. A week is a long time in football and i have a funny feeling there will be significant movement for us. If we were coming up against United and Chelsea next two games with one point on the board i may be a little more somber but by the time we meet Man City on the 10th of September we could have 7 points and be in the next round of the cup.
We know we need to improve on positions and i have more faith in Martinez and believe he learned a lot from last season. The two thirds of the season last term were woeful and he addressed the issue in the nick of time. He has more time, resources and a better squad to start with this time. I am feeling optimistic
