The pitch has been much better since the last big relay…3 years or so ago.
It stood up well last Saturday despite the downpours and Charlton. 5 years ago it would have cut up big time.
As others have said, Peterborough’s pitch last night was awful.
New grounds take time to get the pitch sorted…DW, Wembley, Durham cricket, Hants cricket etc. SAF used to blame the Thugby once a year for Old Trafford’s pitch problems mid 2000s when really it was due to the lack of sunshine in Manchester generally and the new higher stands.
There are far worse pitches than ours…don’t believe what the press say
I bow to you oh mighty Griff and after 40 years working in the Horticulture industry and associating with some of the top sports turf experts in the country it most be so obvious I know nowt!!
Gents, other than the original poster, you’ve all been talking sense. I’d suggest that, in the future, you make a mental note to disregard most of the postings by the originator of this thread. It’ll save you a lot of time and effort.
Have you ever spoken sense ? Your great delight on this once very good site is to put people down &! Drive them away , author my arse ! :)
It’s widely accepted that the rugby does not damage the pitch any more than football does.
Is there no end to the the things you know nothing about?
Yet again you have failed to read a post properly before wading in. It’s becoming a little habitual and also boring now. And to top it off another insult.
By eck when’s the sabbatical starting? It’s certainly needed.

Sorry donnys page, I would not dream of supporting anything griff says if there was any sort of doubt, but you said :-
We must have one of the worst pitches in the league.
You post “after 40 years working in the Horticulture industry and associating with some of the top sports turf experts in the country” If your experience is 40 years in the trade why state this when it is clearly not so.
Even laymen like most of us can see and have stated the pitch is in pretty good nick at the moment, as Leylandlatic correctly posts, the amount of rain put down on Saturday alone, playing on it would have destroyed the DW pitch in the past.
One thing I have noticed is that we now have some gantry frame lighting units that are used to substitute sunlight and aid growing in winter on damaged areas, I have been down to the stadium a few times midweek this season and they have always been on, I don’t think we had these in the past and they may be the reason for the improvements.

Pitch Wreckers.
Back on Friday.
Worst pitch in tjhe league.
God help us now.
Just four statements from Einstein’ original post. How is that not an implication that rugby will damage the pitch?
I think you’re nailing yourself to the wrong mast Horc with Donkey’s Page, but carry on if you want to continue looking daft.
Driven posters away? Really? I have that kind of power? In that case, it would be a shame to waste it with a sabbatical so I think I’ll stay. Now, what will it take to make you leave?
As for Donkey’s horticulture claims, all I will say is a number of posters have disagreed sensibly with that view. No point me helping them so I’ll just carry on taking the piss, especially as it seems to upset you lot so much.
Oh, and Wiganmon – the grown-ups are talking, go and play with your lego or something. What would you know about authors, and reading and writing? The Sun’s cartoon strip doesn’t count.
Now I must be bored reading all this shit, and I am for now, but not later as I’ll get my rod out.
So, during my trawls , just seen this, and I disagree.
Unlike you eh Griff who knows everything there is to know about every subject under the sun.
So let’s put your claim to test.
Griffo, do you know how to set up a lpaternoster rig when dead baiting for pike on a slow moving river?
No googling allowed my friend.

lpaternoster? Have you spelled that right? As I have said many times before the only angling-related skill I possess is making a decent chicken butty.
Oh dear I can see GL getting his mortice board and gown out to calculate the relative force on the pitch bearing in mind the numbers of players, average weight of players, the variable time spent on a rugby match 80 mins factored in against the time spent on a football match, 90 mins, all multiplied by Pi. :S
Not me who said it – the groundsmen. But what do they know, huh?
