thought we did play well last night for 60 min then mancini changed game with his subs.Game was stalemate and he changed tactics, were we just plodded on with same game plan even tho wernt working, no plan b.same old storey.Good chance wasted to take summut from this game

      You serious? WUM?

And The Egg.. McArthur for Jones still made no sense as we were 2 goals down and he isn’t a player that can ‘change a game’ so to speak, not when you’re trailing anyway.[/quote]

Exactly. I was talking about why we didnt change the game at 0-0. We didnt have the options too other than like for like.

am saying we were the better team till mancini changed it and went for it, were we did not u f* ***

Thanks for editing GL…did he swear at me? Tut tut.

Okay back to you Jeremy Paxman:

      1. Why should Martinez have changed it up to that point? We were playing well.
      2. How did Mancini’s subs change the game? I disgree with Phil’s post that they stretched us. We played well up to the two goals, and there was little change after the goals. They hardly ‘went for it’.
      3. How do you know where is no ‘Plan B’? (Football Cliches: volume 1) Managers make constant adjustments throughout a game, so unless you see players charging around swapping positions or a sub or two, how do you know he hasn’t changed anything? What do you think Martinez and Jones are shouting and demonstrating with their hands from the touchline?

Let’s see if you can answer without swearing.

Well the MOTD pundits showed the viewers with the aid of their playback software just how City DID stretch us ! The camera never lies Johnny ! ;)

They’ll be the same cameras and pundits that would edit out Wigan if they could and are doing well if they mention the word ‘Wigan’ in their post match comments?

I didn’t watch it last night, but let me guess… City fan Lee Dixon?

Shearer and Hansen and both agreed that we played well ! It was there for all to see just how our back line was indeed pulled out wide for both their goals !

Hmmm, I’d like to see how they didn’t pull our defense wide prior to the substitutions before I pass judgement!

Okay, let’s say the BBC panel are right, I’m wrong, and the substitution worked.

So, they make a substitution in 68th minute and score in 69th minute. The plan works instantly. They then score a second in 72nd minute: two goals within four minutes of making their substitution. A managerial masterclass from Mancini!

Hardly time for Martinez to react and counteract with his own master plan though – even if he had the players on the bench to do so.

Well it’s the day after and I’m still very enthused by how we played last night. I am not going to look at blaming any individual player…..because they all tried their damned hardest and gave their all.

Being realistic, look what we were up against last night? How many million’s worth of talent? And that could apply to just their bench! They are the only unbeaten team, so it was gonna take something amazing to get a draw, never mind a victory.

We played some great stuff, and for 60 minutes, were the better side. The difference was, their quality. But hey, that’s why they’ve spent hundreds of millions! Take David Silva. Every time he got on the ball, he looked busy, he looked creative, he looked like he knew what he was going to do. Then look at say, David Jones, on our team. He had a decent game, as they all did, but the difference between Silva and Jones is the QUALITY of the final act on the ball…..but that’s why Jones cost us nothing, and Silva cost City many millions. That’s the difference.

Being beaten by a better-quality side, the current champions of England, is nothing to be ashamed of. The fact that we played so well and probably gave them one of their hardest games of the season should give everybody connected to Latics a great boost. The thing is now, we’ve shaped ourselves against the best, we now have to replicate this against lesser teams, and hope that we get our just rewards. That’s what we were up against.

Play like that for the rest of the seaon and we can easily finish in the top ten. I rarely go home from a defeat feeling enthused, but I did last night. We played some wonderful football. Stam and Jones’ ‘renaissance’ is almost like having two new players. Lopez played like he has played 60 games for us.

Plenty to smile about. Would’ve been a different story had we played rubbish and gave them an easy win. Far from it. Proud of the lads.

I wouldn’t say that either goal came because City stretched Latics defence.
For one of them (can’t remember whether it was the 1st or 2nd) City went on the attack coz Gomez gave the ball away very sloppily in the centre of the park & it meant from Latics looking to go forward they were suddenly on the back foot & City had the momentum. I guess you can call that being stretched to some extent but not coz of any tactical genius on Mancini’s part but coz of a mistake on Latics part.
The 1st then came quite simply because Al Habsi fumbled the ball & then got caught in 2 minds as to the best course of action to rectify that
The 2nd one I don’t feel came coz Latics were stretched at all but because 5 Latics players got sucked into trying to get the ball off Da Silva/Silva (I think) whoever. They still managed to leave a gaping hole for him to pass through & City then had 3 men marked on the edge of the area

No stretching there as far as I can see but 2 mistakes in & around Latics own box that a quality side like City were able to capitalise on.

BTW Filmoss – I’ve only used a quote from you coz it was the one I could see with the clearest mention of what some pundits had said. It’s not meant to be any dig at you

                    Totally agree ABL.

I wouldn’t say we were stretched. Both goals were shots from distance. OK there was nobody behind them which could indicate players out of position but it isn’t as if we were all over the place and struggling to keep up why they ran through us with ease for an unmarked player to tap in from 3 yards. One goal came from an error and the other was an absolute peach. Shame the scorer is usually as dangerous as a butter knife.

thought we played well for 60 mins, they quickened things up after the break but i think we reacted well, gave the ball away too cheaply for me which lead to their first.

                      #97436

Sorry but at the point Barry shot we had been stretched and that gave him the space to shoot into.

Prior to Milner coming on City played very narrow therefore so did our midfield and centre halves.Someone went out wide to cover Milner the gap between the centre halves widened giving space to shoot into.

Stretched/out of position what’s the difference? Barry’s shot should have been held by Ali anyway and then we wouldn’t be having this conversation.

We deserved at least a point for that performance. It’s a cruel league at times.
