In recent months I have described Espinoza as an average player, at best.
I now wish to retract that statement and downgrade him to absolutely fucking woeful.
If simply running around a field very energetically for 90 minutes without doing anything meaningful with, or without, a football is what we are looking for, I have two cats here that could fill that role far more cheaply than he does.

Totally agree, his passing was awful, but it normally is. Maloney was excellent today and Ramis was really good but he always is. Barnett isn’t good enough with him at the back. We created some good chances and should have won.
22 November 2014 at 11:50 pm #136084I was wishing he would be taken off before half time

You weren’t saying that after the Fulham game was you? ;)
Do agree though, think you may get your wish with Maloney getting that role and Mclean starting.
Although Callum didn’t do much better did he?22 November 2014 at 11:58 pm #136089In recent months I have described Espinoza as an average player, at best.

Although Callum didn’t do much better did he?[/quote]Er, no. I said he was “OK” in the Fulham game, no better, no worse. It was one of his better games, but there was still no need for any tissues ;)
Said exactly the same about your second point – For me, MacLean out wide and Maloney in’t th’ole (now he seems to have decided to start playing again) with Roger carrying water bottles about on the touchline ;)

Think you may find that’s Kiernans job
23 November 2014 at 12:27 am #136097Yes some of his passing wasn’t up to scratch, but then again some of it was excellent. Would you rather a midfielder not to be involved in the game and a passenger than someone who get’s stuck in and whose performance is more visible.
23 November 2014 at 12:43 am #136104I thought we finally started playing more as a unit today Roger doing his headless chicken bit but someone needs to do it and 10 out of 10 for his fitness levels chasing down lost courses , Boyce for me his days are numbered been a great servant but caught out a lot today .Get on that big bird boyce to Barbados doing your youth training to the youngsters, I would .

(Continuous service only…doesn’t count if eg McCarthur comes back)

as we say, two words … preston north end
23 November 2014 at 2:21 am #136117Geez our fans are fickle. Roger wasn’t great today though still his energy levels and effort were higher than any other midfielder. In the games he has played he has been in the best couple of players in 50% of them. At least try and be balanced.

Ramis didn’t look too clever for their goal. About a yard off!
23 November 2014 at 3:49 am #136119Espinoza was up and down today, some things very good other things, including his passing, shocking. What I find rather ironic is the OP was one who would argue to the end of time in defence of Gomez, a player who spent his whole Latics career(apart from the last couple of months) going from one extreme to the other, granted Gomez had higher technical ability than Roger ever will have but he was terrible far many more times than his occasional red letter days.
The other thing I find strange is nobody has mentioned some other players.
Forshaw’s passing is awful for the so called influential talented string puller we were led to believe he was before we signed him, as for Fortune, Griff you once said that you couldn’t see the point of Espinoza, well I am the same with Fortune for a strapping lad he can’t hold off a defender and hits the deck at the merest contact, he doesn’t win headers, he has a first touch on par with Kone and his passing is worse than Espinoza and Forshaw put together.
Lastly I would like to know what on earth McManaman contributed today, he was shocking, he never once tracked back and gave Boyce no protection or help whatsoever, no wonder Boycey looked knackered.
For all the bad things individually today, there were many positives, overall we were a lot better as a team and apart from Fortune the others are better than their displays today, and will improve. Maloney was different class but the biggest positive had to be Chris McCann he was brilliant seeing how long he has been out, it was just a pity he didn’t finish the glorious chance that dropped to him, incidentally one of two chances(the other fluffed by Fortune) set up by “an average player, at best”.
23 November 2014 at 4:12 am #136120In order to give the ball away you have to be on it. He did give the ball away loads of times today but then a gain he was on it loads of times. Rip him to shreds if you want but he would still be in my team every time, he dictates the pace of the game and I bet opposition players hate him.
I don’t particular like the contribution of MacManaman over 90 mins, if he manages to last that long, but he maintains to be a threat and is worth a start.
Forshaw gave the ball away many times today, but I still thought he had a decent game, perhaps I’m not looking for him to make a mistake, so don’t get hung up about it.
