28 October 2013 at 11:21 pm #122867Attendances so far:
Opening ceremony double header – 42700.
Looking good so far.
Millenium Stadium Capacity 72500.
30,000 empty seats for a double header including one of the the host nations versus the Champions elect.
It doesn’t look too good to me!!
Incidently, why are the semis at Wembley, but the Final at Old Trafford?

It wouldnt look good to a self-confessed rugby hater. Just as close to 30,000 empty seats at Wembley in April didnt “look too good” to a football hating Wiganer.

Maybe you will find some more made up figures claiming 10M plus watched it on TV and it has now become the most watched team sport in TV history.
Anyway, why are you mentioning football on a RL thread, admit it you’re just obsessed with football.
You cry when we don’t want RL mentioned on a football website and when everything calms down and we accept our lodgers on our board and allow threads regarding RL, you just have to resort to mentioning football, whats up with you lad?
29 October 2013 at 3:56 am #122874Thought Mutty didn’t have an obsession with attendances
29 October 2013 at 11:26 am #122877Hate to burst your bubble Leyland but Spain, Germany, Argentina and Brazil in the football world cup. The rest really are there just to make up the numbers. In the last 7 football World Cups there have been 6 different winners, so not all that predictable.

Cardiff is of course RU Country so to get 42k on was a cracking start.
I imagine they felt they could fill Old Trafford and as the HQ of the tournament was at Media City they went with that.

29 October 2013 at 12:30 pm #122880Remember as well of course that RL is only played on the M62 and East coast of Australia yet 42000 people travelled to Cardiff which is certainly not on the M62 and watched a team called Italy.
The opening 5 games have been massively positive from a RL fans point of view. The big test will be tomorrow when USA play the Cook Islands at Bristol.
29 October 2013 at 3:59 pm #122887question for egg and slutty
can you name the irish rugby league and usa rugby league team ,if not then five players from each team
will do
also the teams they play for in their country and name of the leagues in the country
also could you tell me the current champions of both usa and irish rugby league
thank you29 October 2013 at 4:48 pm #122890The Irish Champions are The Treaty City Titans
The American Champions are Philadelphia FightIrish players:
Scott Grix – Huddersfield
Damian Blanch – Catalans
Pat Richards – Wigan
Eamon O’Carroll – Widnes
Tyrone McCarthy – Warrington
Liam Finn – Featherstone
Stuart Littler – Leigh
Brett White – Canberra Raiders
Bob Beswick – Leigh
James Mendieka – WarringtonThat enough? I actually went to watch the Ireland side yesterday ;)
Don’t know many American players but they all play in the American league AFAIK. They recently defeated Canada in the annunal three match series that they play.

http://www.rli.ieIncidentally, three more nations were added to the Rugby League International Federation list this week:
Jamaica, Russia and Ukraine have been accepted as full members of the Rugby League International Federation.
The RLIF held its AGM in Cardiff on the eve of the World Cup opening ceremony and double-header.
A further trio – Canada, Latvia and Malta – have become affiliates of the European Federation.
RLIF Chairman Scott Carter said: “This is another really exciting development for international rugby league as we head into a World Cup that is looking like being the most successful ever.
“All the nations bring something rich and varied to the table and I must complement the job being done by the European Federation which has worked tirelessly to develop and progress all these countries.”
Russia lost its full member status in 2010 following a series of breaches by the now defunct Russian Rugby League Federation – the new body is called the Russian Association of Rugby League Clubs
The top 25 nations in the World can be found on the Maltese website:

South Africa have bid to host the 2017 World Cup.
29 October 2013 at 6:49 pm #122893quite strange no irish champions in the irish team do they only qualify for ireland if their great great grandparents wtere born there
and also quite interesting the usa league is a faik league
didnt jamaica once have a bob sleigh team
anyway when does the world cup start ?29 October 2013 at 7:48 pm #122894Would that be similar to the current Republic of Ireland football squad in which NONE play in the Irish Premier and 5 of them weren’t born in Ireland? (7 if you count the 2 in Northern Ireland who would have needed Republic ancestry of some sort)
Then there’s Ray Houghton, Jason McAteer, Andy Townsend and Tony Cascarino who are all ROI legends yet were born elsewhere.
England of course have had Terry Butcher and John Barnes as well no doubt as countless others.
Shaun Maloney has 32 caps for Scotland at all levels but was born in and spent his first 5 years in Malaysia.
Not sure of your point other than that that Jack Wilshere was championing a few weeks ago.
FTR – Pat Richards has Irish parents, an Irish sister and countless Aunties/Uncles cousins etc etc that hail from the Emerald Isle.
29 October 2013 at 7:57 pm #122895Regarding the American league.
It may not yet be a strong league but it’s a start. They show practically every NRL game over in the US and a few teams have had pre season matches there in the last few years that have been pretty well attended.
As I say…it’s a start and their squad are mainly all based in that league. Hopefully the can pick some strong WC results up like their friendly win over France.
29 October 2013 at 9:02 pm #122898So we can expect in another 130 years of RL growth it should be up to proper World cup standard :S :S :S

And name them….

Why the past 8 seasons?
Talk about tailoring a question so you get the answer you want.
