Scharner was great when he first came back and was key to our defensive turnaround (as well as robles). But, he has definitely been off form for the last few games. His decision making, passing & positional play seem to be all over the place at the moment.
He needs to concentrate on defending as he is trying to cover too much ground at the moment and it aint working for him.

Its just too late in the season for Watson to get match fit. Most of the games from now on in will be a hundred mile an hour.

I think we should at times be a little bit more direct , not all the time but mix it up abit just to catch defenders off guard thinking its gonna be passed through them.

At times teams can read us and know its coming from the back and set their stall out accordingly prime example been Southampton at home.
McManaman is the key for me, drawing and running at players rather than rely on 40 passes to get us to the edge of their box.

West Ham have the highest amount of crosses in the Prem 180 so we know were the biggest threat will be.

Martinez has built his team around possession and passing movements.

The team is very patient – perhaps it needs create more chances rather than just wait for them. I agree that the team should vary the game more and be a little less predictable.

McManaman represents a different philosophy. He takes people on but risks losing the ball. It certainly worked against Millwall, but it hasn’t been a great success in the Premier League so far. McManaman has usually given way to McArthur.

Martinez demands that everyone contributes when Wigan lose the ball. But McManaman and Gomez are both better going forward than defending, making Wigan more vulnerable. McArthur helps to hold the team together and gives McCarthy more freedom.

Once again, Martinez now has choices. He can also call upon Di Santo and Espinoza – and perhaps Watson soon – to come on and change things. I think we will need everyone before the end of the season.

Ramis hasn’t made many mistakes since the first day of the season. And he’s contributed a couple of goals.

With Alcaraz injured so early in the season, and then injuries and suspensions for the other centre halves, Wigan would really have struggled without Ramis. I hope he makes a good recovery.

Figueroa has played almost all the season with quiet efficiency. I think we’ll miss him if he goes. Boyce has also had a long run in the back line this season, and could perhaps extend his career there.

        I’m with you regarding Ramis.

I know JPC01 doesn’t like him – and I’m sure you’ll not convince him otherwise, but I would have liked have seen Ramis play alongside Alcaraz, and I’d actually play Lopez instead of Figueroa, because as well as Figueroa has played, I still think he tends to ball watch and is easily caught out of position.[/quote]

Not that i don’t like him, just don’t think he has delivered to date.

That said, and TIN HAT ON, I bought the Latics BLACK wembley top today and had 14 GOMEZ (cultured left footer like myself) emblazoned on the back  :woohoo:

historically never my favourite (but never abused) the lad has come on this year (reading 3 bred much confidence, martinez seems to think so, regular today, credit where due

just need to get the ticket now and sorted for may 11th ….

JPC, no offense, but I’m not reading any of your posts anymore, I simply can’t stand the way you construct your sentences.
