The guy is a Wigan legend
Pardon.
Why,ave you farted?[/quote]
Actually yes I have, I’m also questioning why you are talkin shite again.
11 November 2010 at 8:03 pm #50776Not quite sure why we shouldn’t boo him – he plays for our next opponents, and no matter what he has done for us in the past is in the past. He will be wanting his current team to win, and we have do our bit to stop that.
Remember Ellington coming back? I think he really was such a huge part of us getting into the Premiership, a true legend, but when he came back for West Brom he was roundly barracked, was clearly upset, played badly and had to be subbed. That to me is a success for Latics.
You can praise him afterwards, but in that 90 minutes he is the enemy.
11 November 2010 at 8:32 pm #50778Nobody booed Roberts last week at Ewood,in fact it was quite the opposite, everyone chanted his name.
I would like to see Scharner get the same response,it would be great if we sang the `Scharner song` especially if we are 2-0 up.Mind u,Chimbonda deservedly got `both barrels`!
11 November 2010 at 8:38 pm #50779Everyone chanted the Roberts song – it gave him a good feeling.
And what did he do in return, may I ask?
Scored against us.
And if anyone says “but he didn’t celebrate” needs to get a reality check on what is important.
11 November 2010 at 11:35 pm #50796Is that pub still open in Garswood,yer know were t`road splits…………?
Think its called t`Stag…………….
or as it shut like every other pub int t`area?
12 November 2010 at 12:26 am #50801Not even sure because it kept shutting then reopening, and they gutted the interior to what I thought was a mess. I think it is still open.
The Railway is still OK, with guest real ales :D
12 November 2010 at 1:30 am #50810Paul Scharner has a clause in his contract at West Brom that he can leave for any one of 7 clubs that he has named should any of them make a bid. I’d say that speaks volumes about the fella.
12 November 2010 at 1:37 am #50813Legend my a r s e !
The only thing he did was score in his first appearance against the Gunners. He’s way down the list as far as Latics Legends go, but pretty high on the spectacular pricks list.12 November 2010 at 1:38 am #50814Since when is a P r i c k a friend ?

I’d say that speaks volumes about the fella.I doubt any of those seven clubs will be bothering when they see his cock-up last night that resulted West Ham’s equaliser.
12 November 2010 at 1:46 am #50816Not seen it but I take it he blamed everyone but himself for that, in typical Scharner fashion ?
12 November 2010 at 2:07 am #50819Not seen it but I take it he blamed everyone but himself for that, in typical Scharner fashion ?MOTD didn’t show his reaction. I think there’s a clause in his contract to that effect!

Bramhall Lane must’ve been an illusion then, I suppose.
I’m really disappointed in the apparent bitterness in some of you. Ok, I’m not for us having a big ‘love in’ for him. But he’ll get a clap before the game. After kick off, it all goes out of the window. Many people bemoaned him as a midfielder. Well lets see how he fairs against our midfield on Saturday.
The guy was always a player who suited the more ‘direct’ approach, so it was no surprise he was allowed to leave by Roberto. One of the best characters to ever play for us.
12 November 2010 at 10:45 am #50837One of the best, VAT? One or the maddest, maybe.
I think we would be better advised to direct our energy to backing our existing players rather than giving one of our very average past players even a moment’s thought
12 November 2010 at 12:55 pm #50854He was a good signing made by Jewell, at the right time. He offered us something very different and gave us some versatility and options.
He was always a bit ‘out there’, character wise, compared to our other players, but I believe he offered a lot in regards to team spirit, and bringing the lads together. Like when he and his wife and kids moved in their new home in Warrington, he invited all the other lads around for a get together. I believe most went, if not all, and by the time they left they were embracing him, and the whole ‘team ethic’ had been enhanced.
I don’t blame him for leaving us when he did, to be honest. 4 and half seasons isn’t a bad life-span for a player at a club these days. Like I say, we had our money’s worth.
Not the best player to play for us, but far from being the worst. I heard lots of calls for him to be brought back after that Blackpool disaster. I would have liked to have seen him in a defensive pairing with Alcaraz. I think that could of been good.
