The problem was VAT that, if our manager is to be believed, during those last 12 months of his contract he was anything but a player who offered alot in terms of team spirit & the fact that Latics didn’t even offer him a contract speaks volumes

Latics undoubtedly got their moneys worth from him but the problem with the Scharner/Alcaraz centre half pairing was that he’d have refused to play there or else made it very public that he wasn’t happy & would be looking to leave unless the manager started playing him where he wanted – IMO as a centre half he has the ability to play for a team in or challenging for Europe. As a central midfielder he has the ability to play in the Championship

As I’ve said do I like him? No (Does he care? No). Do I like the way he began to treat the club? No. Will/Would I boo him? No – A few rounds of Wigan reject might not go amiss though. Purely for the fact that the fella has a massive ego & if he thinks/knows he hasn’t wanted when he left it may put a bit of a dent in that

Although centre-back was probably his best position – and the one which Jewel signed him for – he was prone to errors.
A classic example of a jack-of-all trades but master of none.

When played at centre half under Jewell he had a tendency to have rushes of blood to the head & either make a hash of things or lunge into tackles

IMO under Bruce he virtually eliminated that from his game & became a bloody good centre half & i think our goals against record from that time speaks volumes

Or maybe the errors he made were less conspicuous and overshadowed by those of Mr Bramble. :)

Fair comments from both of you really, to be fair.
