I find it hard to understand why you let the things you have detailed, spoil your enjoyment of watching football.

I watched that friendly today and didn’t think once about what the footballers earn or how money is spoiling the game. I sat there and watched a damned good game of football.

Its just the same as when I was in Blackpool earlier this week and paid £3.50 a pint in the talk of the coast cabaret. I made comment on the prices but still got a belly full and enjoyed the evening. Whoever owns that place is making a fortune, because people like me chose to go and spend my hard earned cash in the place despite the rip off prices.
I could have easily gone 100 yards down the road to some grotty pub full of pisheads and paid £1.80 for exactly the same beer.

You can harp on all you want about how money and players attitudes are spoiling the game of football, but it is a great product and people in their millions want that product that badly, they will deprive themselves of certain other luxuries and even some non-luxury things, to get it.

      Retired fan,

With all due respect, what are you going on about?

My response was to the following post by you:

      Rubbish.

We generally go for a big pay rise to get that extra holiday or to ensure long term financial security for our families what has this fellow earned by taking a pay rise?

more money yes but the same things he was entitled to beforehand.

Nobody is questioning the ethics of world football; it’s in response to your opinion that a young footballer wouldn’t engineer a move in order to get money for his family, buy a bigger house, a more expensive car etc.

I’m certainly not defending or attacking anyone (other than you in a half hearted indirect sort of way).

        I was responding to Yosser.

I do wonder if people spend their entire life being stressed about what other people earn. Do people go to the cinema and complain while they watch it that the actor they are watching earns $100m a year, or when they buy a product from their supermarket, that some rich shareholder will be lining their pocket with the takings.

We live in a capitalistic society where money rules and there will always be someone making huge profits on whatever they can.

For footballers, they should be paid based on performance, but I dont begrudge them for making a living and making a good one at that. At least they do the work for their money, well most of them. !
