An unfashionable club flying high in the Premiership because when they sold their star players they replaced them with star players. Not £100,000 Scottish div standard.
Take note Whelan. Wigan Athletic used to have a side like that, Valencia, Palacios, Baines, N’Zogbia etc and he sold the lot to line his own pockets. He never wanted success, Just Sky’s tv money. Winning the F.A Cup was just an extraordinary fluke that gave the facade that he was interested about Wigan Athletic.

17 January 2015 at 10:06 pm #138376Southampton also get crowds twice our size and have a far bigger income. The reason why we have no debt and break even is because of Dave Whelan. If we did what you’re suggesting we may still be in the Premier League but it’d be built on a house of cards like Portsmouth.

So whats the next excuse
18 January 2015 at 12:09 am #138382Well if in 20 years, 3 promotions, 1 relegation, 2 major cup finals, European football and 8 years in the top flight of English football is a façade for being interested in our small club, then I’ll take that for the next 50 years.
18 January 2015 at 1:53 am #138386Take note of what? They sold players for 100 million and paid buttons in comparison making a profit. Scottish lads I can think of (MacArthur and Macarthy) were a right disaster eh?
On your attendance point we paid on average less than 15 quid a game in Prem and averaged less than 20000. Southampton average over 30000 and pay over 30 quid. Certainly adds up to more than 2 million! Not one club has done 8 years in the prem on our paltry crowds let alone ”fluked’ a major trophy (though could have sworn we played the Premier League champions off the pitch after smashing Everton on their own pitch in the quarters). 1979 when Southampton last won a major trophy, hang yer head in shame Whelan!

18 January 2015 at 4:00 am #138391Last home game of 2005/6 we played Portsmouth whose fans had a banner saying “minus 10-its cold in Southampton!” Contrasting positions of those clubs now eh? According to the Jonathan Jackson propaganda machine we are again in profit. Well why don’t we look a little further into the future then we may be the wealthiest club in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier!!!!
18 January 2015 at 4:55 am #138394Being in profit makes us one of the wealthiest clubs in the country. Never mind the Evostick League include the Premier League too.,

Who says Southampton pay the same for tickets?? I’m willing to bet their season tickets and match tickets cost more. They also sell more. Having more fans also means more revenue from programme sales, beer and food sales, merchandise sales. It all adds up. They have a far bigger income than us. Who’s to say they aren’t in massive debt too? We certainly aren’t.

18 January 2015 at 12:23 pm #138400Has the original poster got any idea how much the Liebherr’ family are worth in comparison to Dave Whelan & thus how much they can put into Southampton or how much they can put up as security so banks will allow overdrafts/loans etc??
Their wealth makes Dave Whelan look like he’s on the dole.18 January 2015 at 1:05 pm #138404Has the original poster got any idea how much the Liebherr’ family are worth in comparison to Dave Whelan & thus how much they can put into Southampton or how much they can put up as security so banks will allow overdrafts/loans etc??
Their wealth makes Dave Whelan look like he’s on the dole. You should/could have ended that sentence after the bold bit. For a clever lad, Yosser has always been a bit of a prick when it comes to Whelan. Him and Bickymon must have been sacked from the same sweeping up jobs in the JJB warehouse.
