26 May 2010 at 7:27 pm #34843And don’t start a sentence with a conjunction.
:)
I hope irony was intended.
30 May 2010 at 1:20 pm #35101At the risk of upsetting some contributors to this forum, there is no excuse for bad spelling; dictionaries are cheap and spell-checkers are free.
A person’s intellect is judged, rightly or wrongly, by his spelling just like his social standing is judged by his clothes or his car. I don’t necessarily agree with this but it is no use pretending otherwise.
I remember a young man with green hair being interviewed on television. He couldn’t understand why he was failing all his interviews. The colour of his hair should have had no bearing on the outcome at all but ………………………..

I disagree there chap; intellect is not judged by good or bad spelling – it’s what you have to say that determines your effective intelligence.
There has been banter on the board recently and those that engaged knew exactly what was going on (as they had the wit and intelligence to deal with it) however, those that feel the need to jump on every grammatical error or spelling mistake just out of sheer nastiness are merely masking their own inadequacies and showing us their total lack of social skills.
I admire anyone who is prepared to share an opinion, however radical, and back it up with good solid debate – it’s just the nasty trolls that get on my p@ps, the uneducated, ill-informed, back-biting wannabes – as my good ‘ol mum used to say…..”if you have nothing nice to say don’t say it’
So remember the idiom…………….
………………”clothes don’t make the man”

I agree with everything you say and I would never dream of judging a person on his spelling or punctuation but, in my opinion, a lot of people do. There have been many times on this forum when a good argument has been made but the writer has given his adversary the opportunity to attack his spelling rather than his argument. A quick reference to a dictionary or spell-checker would avoid this problem. I must admit that I refer to my dictionary very frequently. It helps to keep the argument on topic and helps me disguise the fact that I am really quite thick.
As Samuel Johnson said “criticising spelling is the last refuge of a scoundrel who is losing an argument” ;)

You do your argument (opinion) no good whatsoever. If the person (sex indeterminate) as I said , puts on this board their opinion why then does anyone replying become, in your opinion, an adversary?
I’m saving the rest for later………As an ex-serviceman I am ‘fondly’ reminded of this..
“Short words are best and the old words when short are best of all.”
Winston Churchill
Remember in these days……. and in particular ask those who are young to understand.

It would appear that you are determined to become an adversary !!
If you disagree with my point then that’s ok but it looks like you are trying to prove how intellectually superior you are and unwittingly prove my point.
I also suggest you read what I posted again – it’s on a par with criticising spelling when you put words into someone’s mouth and then argue against what they never said in the first place.

Supposition…and assumption
Why do you say “it would appear that I am determined to become an adversary?” – look…….read my posts.
Don’t overuse exclamation marks!!!!
Yes, I disagree with your point – that’s my point………………..ok?
I have nothing to prove…………….get it?

It took you quite a while to come up with that response and I have no idea what it means. Did you break any keys whilst typing?
Big fish and little pools spring to mind.
Goodnight

You are obviously not as clever as you try to make out then.
I have other boards to comment on (if you are interested that is) and your reference to ‘breaking keys’ shows you up for who you are……
Not at all an ‘Owd Git’ but a Troll from the ‘ol days who wants his/her 15 minutes of fame……go on then………….
deny it.
31 May 2010 at 5:11 am #35173micky you know as well as i do that owd git is a multi?. i thought it was some one else a while back but have this gut feeling that it is dfs as he as to get his fix some how now that he as been banned ;)
31 May 2010 at 3:18 pm #35187“15 minutes of fame”? – you really do have a high opinion of yourself Micky.
You are everything that you accuse the “spelling brigade” of being. If you are losing an argument or someone dares to disagree with you then you revert to type. You are nothing more than a bully-boy who thinks that he is a cut above ordinary mortals.
PS I see that you continue to “profile” me

Don’t flatter yourself; but hey…………………..it’s got right under your skin though, hasn’t it?
You just keep thinking that way.

31 May 2010 at 7:51 pm #35212BOB will find any multi on here and name and shame you!!No he won’t. He just accuses everyone of being a multi. :)
He has no idea whatsoever. He couldn’t spot a multi if it jumped up and screamed “I’m John Arkwright” down his lug-hole.
