You mistranslate every post and are becoming the VAT of the board with your anger towards the club and Manager. I didn’t say I would be happy finishing second to bottom. I’m suggesting given our club size we need to be realistic in this divison where we are likely to finish and with that in mind I would suggest since the turn of the year we have done pretty well. We were playing well before the new year but weren’t getting the results and you moaned it’s all about the points. Now if we play scruffy and win you complain again. I wouldn’t imagine you would be happy regardless of who was in charge or how we were doing as the clubs just a punch bag for some in reaction to their own personal frustrations. I would bet these men are moaners generally in life.

It was a great bit of wing play by Lowe for the goal yesterday and the kind of thing I remember him doing for Pompey. But for some we play him central and that doesn’t seem to be his strongest position.

Well, that’s Cook to a tee isn’t it?
Round pegs in square holes is all he ever does.
Perhaps if he played him in his natural position he may get involved more and be more productive.

Same with Naismith, there is no doubting he is a decent footballer, but we had a left back on the bench yesterday, so why play Kal there, and the ineffective Jacobs on the left wing.

Lowe is terrible in the role where Cook plays him, is it his fault or the managers?
He was never anywhere near Moore to get his knock downs and Moore made his feelings known more than once.

Garner would be far more effective in that role, but I suppose that would look too much like playing with two up front for Cook, and that is where the problem lies, he is too stubborn to admit that the system he plays needs changing.

Everytime I have seen Garner, he works his balls off and causes havoc and panic in the defence of our opponenents, surely it must be worth a try playing him either off Moore or just behind him where Lowe is supposed to be.[/quote]
The ideal player to play behind and sometimes alongside Moore could have been Windass but not for Cook so ideally it should be Garner.Agree Lowe is terrible so why not give the poor lad a chance and see how he performs in his correct position. However he would be on an hiding to nothing if Moore wins crosses but theres no other bugger in the box to latch on to the balls Moore wins.
I wonder why Cook doesnt like playing with wingers and insists on playing square pegs in round holes.

Lowe was a highly effective right winger for Portsmouth last season. Bearing in mind the gap in standard between L1 and the Championship, I imagine he’d be a reasonable right winger, as pace is a transferrable skill.

What position is Cook playing him to generate this vitriol towards Lowe?

Lowe plays as a number ten and has been poor but not as bad as what you may think based on this forum, however scored the winner against Sheffield and set up the winner against Millwall so that’s 6 points he’s contributed recently. Personally agree he’d be better as a winger and Pilks would be a much better number ten.

It’s the problem in the modern game today. If you use wing backs then the likes of Lowe (natural winger) doesn’t get anywhere near the side. It unbalances the shape. I hate wing backs at our level with a passion. It’s not rocket science if Lowe plays give him his natural position and adopt a flat back 4. Otherwise continue with wing backs but have 2 lightning fast strikers to make it effective. To simplify it play players in the positions they are known for.

Roy…..Really …”we were playing well and not getting results “….we hardly had an effort on goal in most matches! What games were you watching? Yes we win scruffy …own goal and another shocking 1st half salvaged by that goal. 1st half was no better than Preston just Millwall couldn’t capitalise. Im no different I’m grateful for 3 points but his team selections don’t help.Lowe,Jacob’s and Garner who has always bust a gut and would put them on back foot regularly benched. . Yes I’m pissed with the club for allowing Cook to reign 12 months longer than he should have culminating in the reason we may go down. Maybe the drop concerns me more than Roy who I’m sure would be chuffed playing back at OUR level as the implications could be devastating……..angry no jr…..extremely concerned….absolutely!!!!

True. Sunderland went to a back 3 and wing backs just before Christmas. This meant that Aiden McGeady was told to go and find himself another club as there was no room in the team for a winger who didn’t like the defensive part of wing-back duties. Folk thought it was madness by the manager to boot out arguably the best player in L1, but the system worked and the wing-backs are the two fittest lads in the team, covering more ground than any of the others.

Perhaps this is what Cook needs to do if he’s hell bent on playing with wing backs, and it is proving successful. If its not proving successful, then he needs to make the most of his best players – which means playing a formation that gets the best out of them.

I’m not sure what you mean by wing backs Nuneaton? I call them that in a 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 formation. Like when we played Preston. In our formation I just think they are full backs in a flat back four which get forward to help the attack. Pretty much the standard for any full back on the modern game.

Hey mutty, with Sunderland’s run how do you rate their chances of going up now?

With Jamal Lowe I can’t understand why Paul Cook went to so much trouble to sign him and then play him out of position. Surely Cook knew his strengths and weaknesses already having managed him at Portsmouth. I think with Lowe there is talent and goals in there somewhere given some confidence and a more consistent game plan.

Theirin lies the problem lowey, and why I dislike the use of wing backs. The modern game calls for change of formation ad hoc and mid game. We haven’t got the level of player to utilise it properly. Lowe plays every game no matter what formation we adopt. He was bought as an out and out winger. So is it not unfair on the lad that he isn’t being used as one.

What was his position at Pompey stu? Where did he play?
