It’s a bit like cards: Our owner trumps their part owner and therefore takes precedence over any Egg Vs Round Ball conversations.
14 June 2023 at 7:30 pm #200041Great news for everyone – except of course Bullitt and Bickymon who now face a choice between eating humble pie and crawling back to their seats in the stadium now owned by a warriors co-owner, or fucking off for good.
Of course we’ll have to wait and see how this all pans out but isn’t this the same arrangement that existed when Whelan owned/had a stake in both clubs, which didn’t stop the persistent resentment from sections of the rugby supporters.
The situation as I see it right now is that Latics fans are grateful for someone – a someone who holds a stake in the rugby – to bail out the club. Twenty five years or so ago Whelan saved the rugby club from a similar fate but rather than recognise that fact and that he provided them with a ground in their home town they denounced him and tried to rewrite history.
If you think the animosity will go away as a result of current developments then you are sadly mistaken and the biggest whingers will be those same rugby fans who refused to acknowledge the fact that a football owning multi-millionaire saved them from oblivion whilst one of their own has now decided to save the towns football club.14 June 2023 at 7:45 pm #200042The “ownership debate” will all depend on how MD decides to manage the stadium. He may keep the lease solely in the name of WAFC or he may give each club equal share. I suspect he will do whichever suits him best financially. I also suspect that IL may soon have a seat on the Latics board and the two clubs will work closer together than they ever have.
Of course, both sets of fans will just come up with which ever story makes them feel better and will each write their own versions as they’ve done for 40+ years so it won’t bring the two closer together in that sense.
14 June 2023 at 10:22 pm #200044I think times have changed and although alot of fans don’t get on or see eye to eye we basically have to get on with it.
I personally don’t like them, to be honest I don’t give a flyer it’s just another low key northern sport bankrupt sport I have no interest in.
If they use the ground it’s rent period, the main thing is were still alive and regardless of fan one-upmanship who owns what we’ll be starting in the Football League next season.
And me ? I can’t thank Danson enough, what he has done is as big as anything that has happened to our club.
But as for, who owns what ?, I just don’t care right now we’re alive.14 June 2023 at 10:44 pm #200045Buy your tickets .. us .bringing THREE scousers on board

15 June 2023 at 4:37 am #200048Great day for Latics supporters and let’s hope they run the club sensibly with a long term sustainable goal.
I really thought the club was done for finally like happened at Bury and if it means we have to stroke along with the chubbies then so be it.
It worked before with Whelan and whilst many of us cannot forget their bombast and ruthlessness under Maurice
Lindsay we have to accept that the rugby club and the game of rugby league is declining and times now are very different now to the 1980’s.
Let’s hope we have had our bad luck once and for all , I noticed our bitter and jealous neighbours from Blackrod were very quiet last night.
At last it’s now Back to matters on the pitch and a tough relegation battle awaits with possible relegation to the basement again but that is this clubs metier.
Get the whisky out 🥃15 June 2023 at 8:51 am #200049Have we heard anything from the EFL yet whether we will face further punishment for the 2nd June late wages payment?
Fingers cross they will take the pragmatic approach that now the club has been sold and (we pray) put on a sustainable financial footing, it would be petty and vindictive to apply another points deduction in addition to the -8.
Then again, this is the EFL we’re talking about….
15 June 2023 at 9:06 am #200050I doubt they’ll be forgiving, a friend asked me a question,
Why are we been punished 4 points everytime an infringement takes place when in the past and other clubs get docked 3 points?.
Oh I forgot it’s Wigan, the EFL hold meetings to change the rules when they know were about to break them.
I’ll make a mental note of this 4 point thing and remind the EFL the next time this happens to another club
15 June 2023 at 12:43 pm #200051Maybe its rival EFL member clubs that push for this , we seem to have attracted a few bitter enemies since the monumental FA cup success and backs to wall mentality displayed in latter years.
Id imagine a few perenial League 1 lame dogs will no doubt have been on the phone ‘reminding’ the EFL of the June payday breach already.
If i know Latics it will be a promotion push regardless next season regardless , the backs to wall mentality will no doubt surface very strongly next season now all this has been sorted.15 June 2023 at 4:35 pm #200052For me Jonathan Jackson and David Sharpe should be found senior roles at the club. Let’s keep this in house and no more big spending Brannigans please. Sharpe’s now got that experience at 32 years of age and once a Tic ?
I think there’s enough talented and skilled people who love the club for us to ever feel the need to go elsewhere.Let’s keep it in house and this time
Get it right !!!!

15 June 2023 at 6:12 pm #200056Made up with the takeover but can’t help but ask why didn’t he do this two years ago when we were in administration ?.It would have cost him a damn site less. We know all about Leneghan and his failed bid to buy the stadium but why didn’t Danson come on board with him then and buy us lock stock and barrel ? Something has obviously changed , hopefully for the benefit of Wigan Athletic.

This sounds like a realistic plan.
After all the desolation, I think the good times could be back.
Pay day soon for the new season ticket
