Got no problem with the press and public focussing in on the other team being poor or controversial moments in a game – like the end of last season, the more we sneak under the radar re our performances the better.
the way i saw it was, the newcastle player tried to control the ball with his first touch which was poor, the ball bounced away from him so was there to be won.So what do they want players to do now wait till he gets the ball under control then challenge for it.Oh and has for smith who commentated saying it was a challenge with intent F@CK YOU
I can understand Whelan trying to defend McManaman to lessen the impact of whatever ban is coming his way but unfortunately he isn’t the best at PR. No point saying the ref saw the incident when he’s already said he didn’t, unless Halsey has been put under pressure to say he didn’t so the PL can intervene and “justice” can be seen to be done.
It’s a red card all day, if the ref didn’t see it then he’ll be done retrospectively and can’t really have any complaints. Comparing it to past tackles that may have been worse, that may have escaped punishment is pointless.
I just hope it doesn’t set the lad back too much in his development, that would be the real injustice in all this, I don’t think he deserves that, bad tackle, end of chat.

I think it’s to lessen the impact of all the Press witch-hunt.
Who’s everyone talking about now?
Who can handle that much better than a young lad who now has become the replacement for Osama bin Laden in most people’s eyes?
Abramovich wouldn’t do this. We have a very good Chairman. He knows what he’s doing.

The mans a fool,
Who on earth would wear a ‘tank top’ like that during a TV interview which the whole nation will see.
Bobs a pretty snazzy dresser, perhaps he should have a word, someone needs to.
It’s a foul and a red. At the other end we’d have wanted the same.
Callum probably was going for the ball but he got the man instead and should pay the price for that.
I do feel as though we deserve to get away with the odd decision or two though when you consider some of the shite we’ve put up with. The Rooney elbow, Muamba on McCarthy, Welbeck on Di Santo to name 3. Having spent 5 hours on a coach and spent 30 quid to see a ref ruin the game at St James’ earlier in the year as well I think anything that we got away with on Sunday was owed to us.
Why are people comparing it to other tackles ? At the end of the day it was a terrible mistimed tackle and if the ref had seen it he would have been straight off ! The lad needs some beta blockers or something if you ask me because he is like a fuckin coiled spring !
