McManaman went for the ball – and got it.

The tackle wasn’t so much mistimed as misjudged. The ball was in the air and there was a clear risk of injury.

Darron Gibson and Carlton Cole were both sent sent off in the same game for high challenges. On appeal, both cards were rescinded. Nani was sent off for a high challenge against Real Madrid and I don’t think Manchester United even appealed.

The situation is not clear. But I hope Haidara is not seriously injured.

Not to mention the premeditated deliberate stamp on Torres by Ferdinand ???

Most fans accept that, in this day and age, it’s a red card offence and we probably wouldn’t be surprised at a retrospective ban. It would stick in the craw, though, if Callum was banned and Perch and Ameobi got off scot-free for their stamps in the same game. That would only go to confirm the bias the FA have towards us.

A rough challenge, but one which the linesman stood about 20 yards away didn’t see fit to call a foul for. Forget the ref, he was unsighted, so he reckons. But the linesman saw it, yet never gave anything.

As far as I’m concerned, NO ACTION should be taken retrospectively. If neither official deemed it a foul, tough titty.

What’s bugging me is the ‘hush hush’ about the extent of the ‘injury’. Are they holding out until our player gets a ban, before announcing he has a grazed knee and will be out for a week? (as will all players due to international break).

That was the concensus of opinion on a Newcastle site, last night.

I hate Geordies with a passion now. Self righteous pricks.

Just looked at the official site (www.nufc.co.uk) which mustn’t be confused with a fan’s site http://www.nufc.com which has a lot of libellous content.

To be fair to them the official comments are far more restrained than the witch hunt that’s going on around. They’re obvioulsy not happy with us – but then who ever is?

With less than half-an-hour played, left-back Massadio Haidara was stretchered off with suspected knee ligament damage following a high, late challenge from Latics winger Callum McManaman, for which referee Mark Halsey didn’t even award a free-kick.

          Quotes from James Perch

“The handball for the goal is blatant. Everyone could see it at the time and everyone will see it on the replays.
“And the tackle was a bad one. I know referees get the odd thing wrong and I can accept that but 100 per cent he (McManaman) should have been sent off.
“Football isn’t a nice game sometimes.”

I’m not excusing them, but it’s a bit more restrained than the hysteria around.

I agree that I’d like to see if Haidara suddenly bounces back. Bad injuries are usually assessed as such quickly.

Why are people comparing it to other tackles ? At the end of the day it was a terrible mistimed tackle and if the ref had seen it he would have been straight off ! The lad needs some beta blockers or something if you ask me because he is like a fuckin coiled spring !

Folk would be out their chairs if he backed out the challenge and he skims past him.

He was in his rights to go for that ball, I like to see players committed rather than friggin pussying around. what happened he touched the ball after was clumsy and CM had no way of pulling his leg out the tackle in time to stop him colliding. It’s a witch hunt and this social media is a disease.
If we did happen to do the drop then we will rely on the likes of CM.

here’s a leg snapper and far worse

I nearly spat me cornies out this morn when I read some Newcastle fans were dishing out death threats, that made me laugh, how stupid can they be ?. Risk jail over some 1/2 dodgy tackle , , getta life fella’s.

Surely the important question should be ,did Callum go out to deliberately maim their player.

Of course he didn’t , it was a pure accident – the ball was there to be won and he won it, but because he’d gone in at pace he followed through and hurt their player. There was no intent whatsoever.

So yes you can argue that in today’s namby pamby game the ref should have shown him a red card but why the hysterics and sheer venom – IT WAS AN ACCIDENT. Maybe the ref should have told Callum to stop being so rough.

Whelan said yesterday that it’s not a game for fairies. Sorry Dave it’s too late – it is a game played by and watched by numerous mard arsed fairies.

The reason for the hysterics from the Geordies is simple….they lost! Pure and simple. They were simply out played by the far better footballing team on the day and after they bought 10 million fans aswell.

Yes, I had to smile when I heard Pardew claim it was, and I quote “A travesty” that they lost the game. Why? We were all over them and Kone himself went close 2 or 3 times before he scored. McArthur went close as well, I recall. Travesty me eye!
