And then there`s the 3rd camp.
Posters who change their minds every couple of weeks, one week they are saying how Roberto is a legend and shouldn`t leave for Liverpool, the next week he is a Spanish Clown. Posters who write up long pieces telling everyone how long they have been going, how they were there throughout all the hard times in the hope of getting some well earned kudos. The same posters who for years and years have changed their minds constantly week in week out. The same posters who have tried their best to be a big name on messageboards for years and years but when it comes to it they just can`t play nicely and end up getting banned off site after site. And not just banned for anything but for using threatening behaviour (baseball bats), swearing, and to put the hundreds and thousands on the cake…banned for racism !

And we built two camps three years ago. Darkside and Lightside, a light-hearted attempt to put people in the two categories you talked about. Interesting how those who thought of themselves as Lightsiders are/were generally the intelligent, good looking ones and the other side are gobshites who, despite having sensible arguments put to them, have to resort to calling the manager a Spanish Clown :/

No, I don’t change from one extreme to the other. I genuinely thought in the summer we could make some progress. I quickly realised after about 3 games that no, we were shitter than ever. What am I supposed to do, deny it to myself and think we are brilliant? Why? Why do ANY of you do that?

No, I was suggesting you take a look and see the progress that the club has made off the field, all driven by Martinez and all done whilst keeping the team in the Premier League for three seasons.
Yes, he has his faults and no, he probably isn’t the best young manager in Europe.
But faced with spending f*** all on players and investing the clubs scarce resources on training and academy facilities instead, do you see Steve Bruce hanging around? Oh no, he did one, didn’t he? So would any of the other suggested saviours.

I’ve nipped across here from TNS simply because I felt I should put the record straight with regard to the thread to which ABL refers. You see, I started it. Though there may admittedly have been a hint of mischief in the request to admin to “unban” Vat69 (who I believe is now you, ABL), but the sentiment was genuine. I really wanted to understand your 180 deg about turn……….. especially with it being so soon after your previous 180 deg about turn only a few short months earlier.
You see, on TNS, far from it being a Roberto love-in, there are probably more inclined to the murkier end of the darkside, as opposed to the unashamed lightsiders like me, so you’d probably have got quite a bit of support for your argument. (I’ve no doubt that support would have been a damn sight more considered and eloquent than “Spanish clown” mind).
As Griff, Mighty Aff & others rightly state, a forum is for discussing opinions. I just struggle to follow which one you’re championing at any particular point in time !
Now, finally, will you please bloody well let on just what the hell was on your banner from last season but one………. you know, the one you was going to unveil at the West Ham game. I’m sure it was very witty.
A. One camp on here know we are shite, fancy a change of manager, and want this dross we have to watch to stop. They can see the reality of the situation, which is we have not moved on AT ALL in the 4 seasons Martinez has been manager. Have a look for yourself, 2-3 seasons ago we were still moaning about the same things we are moaning about now. Some will argue about the club being more stable….yes, but the squad is worse off, as we’ve sold any quality we’ve had and spent jack-shit on re-strengthening! Club is financially better off, yet on the pitch we are rubbish. It’s so boring to watch. This group thinks we need a change of manager.
B. The other camp still thinks the sun shines out of the manager’s arse. mainly because he once played for us, was a fairly average lower league player with the odd fancy trick, and was one of the ‘three amigo’s’. Oh, and he’s a nice guy. Because of all this, they think he can do no wrong and gladly swallow everything he says, even his crap excuses after yet another defeat.

They support the manager and the team, because let’s be honest, that’s what they’ve always done. Even when things aren’t going well, they’re reserved enough not to have a screaming hissy fit and claim the club is going to the dogs only to make a u-turn and retract it all a few months later.
The reason they support the manager is they like what he is trying to achieve at the club in terms of the playing style he’s attempting to bring in, and how he has developed the youth system which previous managers had deliberately neglected.
They don’t pour scorn on or take everything he says in his press conferences to heart as they are savvy enough to realise that his words are soundbites and in the most part used as a PR exercise or to try and boost a player’s or players’ morale.[/quote]

Oppinions are so divided at the minute obviously but I find myself agreeing with both sides of the divide at times.Yes, on the field we are poor to say the least at times but off it we are progressing immensly.I can see what Bobby is trying to do and he is showing guts to stick by his ideals but then at times it seems he just isnt learning from previous mistakes. At the minute its hard being a Wigan fan just for the fact we dont see success in games and each defeat hurts like fook but like some on here constanly state who else could be better than Bobby with the same restraints?.Managing Wigan Athletic must be an extremely tough ask and the guy has had more than one chance to bail out but he hasnt.He isnt the greatest by a long way but at least he has had the balls to try and get it right and not scarpered at the first signs of hardship.
