Peter Shilton training with a sandbag strapped to his back; so that on match days ( with sandbag removed ) he could leap like a salmon.
26 February 2017 at 2:41 am #155936One good memory i have is supporting a latics team that actually scored goals.
26 February 2017 at 2:55 am #155942Saving my school dinner money so that I could spend it in the club shop at Springy.
Probably bought a Sammy the Seal scarf.26 February 2017 at 4:03 am #155944Peter Shilton training with a sandbag strapped to his back; so that on match days ( with sandbag removed ) he could leap like a salmon.Maybe someone should tell the current Latics team that they need to take the sandbags off
26 February 2017 at 4:44 am #155945Things I remember, Latics playing football not like the fookin crud we are playing under Joyce. This has to be the most ineffective Latics team ever.

26 February 2017 at 2:36 pm #155958I remember playing at Anfield in the League Cup and Peter Howitt (AKA Joey Boswell from “Bread”) coming on the pitch at half time to record a song with the Kop.
They thought it would probably be a good time to do it as they were only playing Little Wigan.
They were wrong!!!
All the Latics fans started a 10 minute rendition of “who the f***ing hell are you” and Peter Howitt eventually sculked off the pitch with a quick hand gesture to the Latics fans, and a new song of bye bye bye bye bye bye bye bye aimed in his direction.
Needless to say, no recording with the Kop was possible for Mr Howitt.
Was it the 2nd leg (also played at Anfield)? As I deffo missed that .. delighted to hear it anyway, did the plant pot address the kop in his best scouse ? The Manc born, London raised prat
Anyway a couple of golden memories, were doing Stafford Rangers 4-1 on Boxing Day 1970 over 8,000 on for a non league ‘league match’ I don’t think that was beaten until an end of season decider in the days of automatic promotion about 10 years ago
And the late penalty from Jim Fleming to beat Peterborough and earn our 3rd round tie at Maine Road……again a Northern Premier League team at home to what were then a mid table 4th division outfit and we had 17,000 on ! biggest crowd at Springfield in my lifetime……We’ve had lower gates in the Premiership ….27 February 2017 at 5:43 pm #156006I remember going to matches and expecting a or very hopefully of a win, especially at home. That was even when we were at our lowest of lows in the fourth division.

That was even when we were at our lowest of lows in the fourth division. There was always a glimmer of hope no matter who we played. You knew you would get the odd chance and hopefully put it away and hope the opposition were on an off day.
This season every team we have played has been there for the taking, but we just don’t seem to be able to make chances anymore, nevermind take the chances.
I can’t remember even through the darkest of days ever being as bored as I was during the 2nd half of a match as I was on Saturday. It was like a pre season friendly were all the strangers, and youngsters and unfit has beens meet for he first time and just go through the motions to get 90 minutes under their belt.
Things have to change, and quickly.

Do they still exist ?3 March 2017 at 12:10 pm #156205I remember going in the Phoenix Stand with my Granddad on a Tuesday night match as a kid, and being offered cushioned pads for your seats (for an extra charge). I also remember on a few occasions these pads being launched from the stand at the referee at full time.

Think it’s where I first learned to abuse match officials. They used to take some frightful abuse from some of the older generation sat around me. Good job it was the family stand really.

We always used to stand in the paddock in front as kids, usually leaning over the wall abusing the away team manager and subs and spitting on the ref and the opposition players through the tunnel cage,
We had moved to the ‘Popside” by the time the Family Enclosure was built.4 March 2017 at 2:46 pm #156260Cols dad’s winter nips in the paddock.
I remember having a laugh putting stuff in owd men’s trilbey hats. Started with fag stumps, moving on to pie trays and disposable cups.5 March 2017 at 10:42 pm #156368I remember when you got loan players in to cover for injuries or perhaps the odd one to bolster defence/midfield or attack, not being brought in to try to turn a season around in the numbers we seem to get. At least the loanees in the old days were usually fit and good enough to play right from the off.
