Thinking on about people moaning at games, I remember going to Burnley in the promotion season and I was sat near George on the coach who appeared on SSN the season after as “Britain’s most miserable football fan” and basically used to write to Paul Jewell every week.
As we’d lost on Boxing Day he spent the whole journey there criticising Jewell, the players, Whelan. He even said we wouldn’t go up with Roberts and Ellington as strikers. We lost the game so all the way back this carried on.
Then away at Sheff Utd on New Years Day I’m on the same coach again and he moans the whole way there. We win the game and he doesn’t say a word on the way back.

7 March 2017 at 2:17 am #156415Forgive me if this one has already been mentioned, as i dont really want to go through so many posts. But i remember one game at springfield park where the linesman had a pie chucked at him.

But i remember one game at springfield park where the linesman had a pie chucked at him.It was probably Golly as he was running up and down the perimeter wall on the pop side.
He liked having the odd word with the linesman in those days.
You can’t get away with the fun of the old days in these sanitised all seater stadiums we have today.9 March 2017 at 12:19 am #156468Me and HORC getting saved,by an owd granny, from getting a kicking by eight Bristol City fans at the JJB Stadium. She herself was a City fan and I can remember her giving them a good scalding along the lines of : “Get back on your coach, your are a disgrace to your club. Leave these two lovely chaps alone”. She might have even been thrashing her brolly at them.
9 March 2017 at 1:45 am #156471Me showing the coach driver the way to Selhurst Park after he got us lost.
9 March 2017 at 2:05 am #156472I remember Neil Midgeley stopping a game because of the abuse he was getting from Golly. He went across to the edge of the pitch and told Golly to stay where he was while he went to get a policeman. Needless to say he’s scarpered by the time he got back.

9 March 2017 at 7:55 pm #156487I remember the days when Cockney Latic was busy when we had a great away win. Nowadays the board just goes mad busy when we lose.
9 March 2017 at 9:01 pm #156488Desperately trying to get our local league match on Laithwaite Park called off on the day of the Man City FA cup-tie in 1971 so I could get to the game. There’d been a frost overnight and managed to get a local referee down to rule it unfit in time to make it to Maine Road.
I played for Wigan Boys’ Club at the time.
Anyone remember that place in Soho Street?9 March 2017 at 9:48 pm #156489Don’t remember the club but remember the day at city well. It was bloody cold and foggy too during the match. So unlucky. Would have loved to see those 33,333 replay tickets sold.

9 March 2017 at 10:51 pm #156493Kevin Lynch was a great character.
He was guest speaker when we went on a Corporate Hospitality day many years later, he was as funny as f**k.
We spoke to him after the meal and he did nowt but piss himself whilst recalling the events that night in 1997.
He’s still doing the cicuit of after dinner speeches etc, and published his autobiography a year or two back called ‘Lynch The Ref’. Its got to be worth a read. -
