Simply not good enough whatsoever to go anywhere near the first team ever again. Couldn’t break down a conference defence so no hope of cutting it for the first team. Utter garbage from top to bottom tonight.
Then Grigg comes on and drags their defence all over the place and scores twice. Eight changes for the sake of it. Treating the cup with utter contempt. Disgusting and not good enough. Embarrassment to the fans.
Can not work out why. I am not sure if this stunt was worse than the Accrington debacle. Certainly on par with it. It showed us one thing and that we have very little strength in depth and this is before even talking about the borefest put on again. Is Yootha back??

Appalling performance and appalling decision by the manager to play such an understrength side.
You are right about Toney and Roberts and tonight proved they are not alone. It was embarassing and if it weren’t for Will Grigg, we would have been the laughing stock of football fans all over the country. We got out of jail tonight, we didn’t deserve to win, and could quite easily have lost, and could have had no complaints. Fylde were the best side tonight and will be very disappointed not to have won.

Let me make it clear I thought we were awful tonight.
But I wouldn’t blame the team selection – easy to criticise with the benefit of hindsight.
On paper that looked a strong enough team to beat a Conference North team. All other than Burn and Byrne who are regular starters were fringe players who have started league games this season (with the exception of the clown in goal) and are bench regulars. No comparison at all with the Accrington situation.
This was a great opportunity for those fringe players to stake a claim on a starting place, or at least for more game time.
        And they blew it.

Did people really expect us to win 3 or 4 nothing? Was never going to happen. That was their cup final and they were always going to give us a game. They’re not actually a bad side. Look at our giant killing days when we were non-league and of course the wins over City. Were they not good enough after our win at The Etihad? They must have been half decent as they won the league. It’s sport. It happens. We probably under estimated them slightly as well.

Should we have rested players? Yes we should. Say what you want about the modern footballer but the way the game is these days they need to be rested whenever and wherever they can if you are going to get the best out if them week after week so with December being as busy as it is we had to rest some players. We will be better for it come the business end of the season.

Does the cup matter? Yes and no. Football is a business as someone else said and sadly there is no money in the cup anymore so it takes a back seat. As a fan I don’t like that but sadly it’s a fact and no matter how often we cry about it it isn’t going to change.

Rather than the digs at Cook from Horc and Donny, Garswood has got it spot on….we were absolutely dreadful, but to blamne Cook for fielding that team is wrong, He as manager and us fans were totally let down by the starting XI tonight (except Burn/Byrne) none of them looked to have the nous or ability to beat Fylde tonight, only changed when Grigg came on.

The difference between Accrington & tonight’s line up is that the kids were never going to beat an experienced L2 side, whereas that team tonight, should have been far too good for AFC Fylde, but instead they looked like they’d never played a game before. Players need to take responsibility for that performance tonight, they were trusted to do a professional job tonight and completely mislaid that trust, their faults alone not the manager.

I was told by a Villa fan that that keeper is pretty good. Then again he watches Rochdale and reckons they’re the best footballing side in the division.

Disagree about Roberts, thought he was one of only a few players who actually played ok. Others who did ok for me was Elder, Byrne and of course Grigg. The rest were diabolical bad.
It goes to show how we all see things differently.
George, you have referred to the young lad in goal as a clown on more than one occasion tonight. IMO he looked no worse than Jones has been, spilled a few shots, dropped the odd cross and of course held on to the ball for 6.9 seconds when the forward was moving with him trying to put him off. 99 times out of 100 the ref would have warned the forward to move away. Earlier he was jumping up and down in front of him for the free kick. Has ungentlemanly conduct been scratched out of the rule book.

6.9 seconds? Really? It was more like double that.

On paper yes you would think we had enough out there to have done much better tonight and we can not take anything away from Fylde for their effort but probably the reason they looked so good and us so shit is that they play together every week but our team tonight where put together and played together as a team for the first time.
What it did show was that without Morsy Jacobs Powell Grigg and Burn we would probably be struggling in this league. They are the key and all the others with probably the exception of Evans are made to look better because of them.
Toney and Roberts wouldn’t get in the Fylde side.
Why all those players needed a rest again beats me and as for using tonight to give these players who played a run out well that’s what the Accrington game should have been rather than a holiday.

Sorry egg lad, normally I’m on the same wavelength as you most of the time but I have to disagree wholeheartedly with you on this. Why does the modern player need resting as much as possible? What has changed in the game to warrant these fragile cherubs being so protected?. They are fitter, stronger have far better diets and training regime’s better pitches and equipment than players past who would be offended if left out of a game. The Wigan Athletic story is the greatest ever told because of the successes in cup competitions and did it hinder our rise through the leagues? Did it bollox. Cook luckily got away with it last night. These are professional sportsmen and if they cannot reach the required fitness levels needed to compete in every game of a season then they should find another career. Also why does it appear that only players in this country need these RESTS. Messi and Ronaldo hardly ever miss games injuries apart. Sorry again egg but I will never accept that players need to miss games because “its the modern game”.

Before the game last night, my mate was messaging me asking about our chances, as he was doing his bet. I explained we had made 8 changes, but said “that team is good enough to beat them”. Anyway, he stuck a fiver on Fylde and cashed out on £40. Then he put a fiver on Wigan, then 2-1 down, to comeback and win. So he was happy, at least!

Very disappointing, but then again highlights our lack of depth in the squad. Dare I say we have players who need shipping out, so we can bring others in. We are top of the league, but havent played well in weeks. I cant decide if its just a poor quality League One that sees us top, because I’m sure we would be struggling in the Championship with this team. Whether January or the Summer, we need some reinvestment on new players.

I would imagine after last night we, and no doubt another couple of clubs, will be looking at their numbers 8 (don’t know his name) and 9 (Rowe) as worthwhile investments come January.

Apparently, a few league clubs have been watching Rowe for weeks. 50 odd goals in 60 odd appearances.
