I had similar experiences at old Trafford with my kids, away with kids is just too lairy, wont take them again. It feels worse now than it did when I was a kid in none league and div 4, when I used to go all over the place with my dad. I stick to home games these days.

Definitely, Dnr. I said last night that it never used to be like this.

Possibly the demographics of Season Ticket holders has changed so much over recent years with ST holders being the vast majority of supporters because of cost implications these days.

We got in ground nice and early, wanted to get a nice, safe spec for the kids who are 11 and 8. Did so. Or so we thought.

First 10 or 15 mins was full of latecomers “just have one more pint” coming in anf then deciding to stand smack bang in front of us. Kids couldnt see at all, so had a word with 3 or 4 and told them to move. Stewarding was crap. Kept shepherding people in from the corner, then told some to move into spaces up on the terracing, yet let a group of about 10 bellends stand at the side of the goal, up to the hoardings. Totally ruining the view of kids and several people who had been in early. Some Wigan fans are a disgrace. There was a toilet cubicle without a toilet fitted in. Can you believe people were still pissing on the floor? Absolutely disgusting. I’m no prude, heck I went in the old Wembley toilets where you were paddling in piss, but come on!

Battling to keep my kids interested but it will be home games only from now on.

Anybody who didnt go tonight, think yourselves very lucky. Shocking performance against a piss poor Fylde side. Plenty sideways passing, hardly tested their keeper. Maybe we arent as good as we think? Is it League One thats poor quality? If we go up we will need a complete new side as nowhere near good enough. Massey isnt good enough, Power was shocking and one up front…I hate it. Grigg cant play the role. He got a goal but did nothing else. Morsy, Evans and Jacob trying to create things, but nothing up front.
So a replay it is then. A game we didnt need and a 2000 attendance. At least we are in the draw, I suppose.

We didnt deserve anything other than what we got. Had a lot of possession, did nothing with it.

I disagree vat. We are a decent side & are where we are in the league on deserved merit. Last night was a classic cup tie where the minnows, whilst totally outclassed by higher league opposition, performed as a unit & fully deserved their draw. Admittedly! I believe we treated the game as a training match & should have been more ruthless. I get the impression that after we scored, we took the foot off the peddle & thought “game-over.” Plus, fylde did come at us more in the 2nd half.

I agree, cook does need a word with them. And, im also sorry for you & your boys matchday experience, which should have been (regardless of the result) a thoroughly enjoyable evening out.

Have I not been banging on about fans standing up blocking kids views at away games?
They don’t need to be drunk they still block views if full of ale or not. Even last night the seating area which I chose specifically as I like sitting down at matches, had people standing. I had to tell a group of 5-6 fans stood up in front of me to sit down which was met with the usual glare and ignorance. This really needs sorting otherwise the young uns and owd uns will stop going. Paying extra for seats and standing up you cant make it up!

Massey and Power were pants, also Morsey great at frustrating opposition and has many touches but when forwards have all moved up pitch and theres a break on he is too slow and looks for short sideways pass then wants it back meanwhile our runners have been caught up with, happens time after time. Need an attacking mid to work alongside him, Evans too similar and Power clueless and adds zero to the team.

You dont sit down at an away game. Its the law.

I had a simliar situation vat but I’ve experienced this for a while now. Wembley 2013 my youngest struggled to see much…
Standing though, you’ve got to expect this and that’s why seating is best for kids.
The drunken knobs (teenagers mainly) that don’t give a shit about their fellow tics is a new phenomena that I don’t care for much. They are definitely embarrassing! And looking at most if them with their designer kit on, they’d run a mile at the first sign of trouble..

Thing is, Jimmy, why should I have to fork out top whack to sit down because of a load of pissed up idiots? We were sat down at United and had idiots stood up in front of us, and same with idiots at Preston. And being honest, they were all 40 odd year old blokes causing the problems last night. Cracking on they are all ‘lads’ on the lash. Truth is, football gives them an excuse to get out from the missus for a night, so they get all giddy and drink because theyve got the chance to. Oh dear.

I just wont bother in future. Its put my kids off, and its put me off too. It was different when I was a kid going aways with my dad. I can recall the late Dave Wiggins and his friends being sat in font of us at Huddersfields old ground, Leeds Road. (Early 90s, we had Paladino in goal)

A god awful day where they let wigan fans go in the stand out of the elements for an extra £1. I can recall them being a bit chirpy, as young uns can be. But then turning round and apologising if they had sworn or been a bit loud. You wouldnt get that now. You get 40 something blokes in a £300 cagoule now being ignorant. I dont recognise many of them from Springfield days either, but thats another subject entirely. Wigan became ‘fashionable’ in 2005 to 2013 and attracted a whole set of new followers. A lot of bellends among them.

Funny this as most of lads who came in late were actually middle aged blokes (in expensive jackets granted) who sell and write cockney latic fanzine. To be fair most were at Springfield Park though quite a few crossed over from the rugby in the late mid 90s. One notably a keen status quo fan as some on here will no doubt recognise. This ‘phenomenon’ of arriving at grounds half pissed, clad in designer clothes and behaving a bit lairy is hardly new. Remember at almost every ground under Kenny Swain goon squad doing exactly the same. Fewer in numbers granted but same shit, different shovel.

The designer wear hooligan as been around a lot longer than 2005 too. In the very early eighties their chosen uniform was Pringle, Lacoste and Sergio Tacchini etc. Even previous to that it was Wrangler Jeans, Ben Sherman shirts and Doc Martin’s. Now we’ve traveled to Stone Island and the latest mountain/outdoor wear jackets which a few years ago they would have laughed at. Always been around and always will be I am sorry to say.

The contrast I would make between when I was young(mid seventies to v early eighties) would be the level of drunks. I may be wrong. There was a lot of scrapping, but not every match then but these days it feels like half the away crowd is bladdered and generally inconsiderate, but ironically there is probably less scrapping, certainly in and around the ground. I am not hankering after the old days, at home I think what we have now is a much better overall experience than pre dw/jjb, but away it isnt good. The good thing in life is that we have choices, mine is not to go away, as i dont like the atmosphere, if it was different I would go more and take the kids.

Because people in the know, KNOW I didnt. Thats why. My first game was 3 May 1986. Wolves. Won 5-3. Season ticket holder since the following season. 86-87. Main stand, then family enclosure, before going on terrace from about 91 onwards.

Jason knows, as Ive referenced to him in the past mutually known people from Springfield Park. Went about 9 years not missing a home match at one point. Never missed a game in Swain era, which is some going really. GarswoodLatic knows too, as I once sold him a signed team picture from 1988. Id got that as a birthday treat in the Family enclosure, being took around the dressing room where I got the autographs, and met the players. Great thag family enclosure. Raffle ticket as you went in off Julie, the hostess, and you would win a Latics shirt or something like that. Happy days them. I recall half time v Sheff United in 89, realising a window at back of family enclosure was into away dressing room. Looking through and seeing back of Brian Deane’s head as he took a dump. Him and some other players squirted me and some other kids with a water bottle. Happy days.
Also witnessed the scrap in the tunnel after Sunderland in 1988.
Used to go supporters club after games too, had my first ale in there and also developed a liking of Chestnut Mild which they sold in there, as well. Was good watching the results come in.

Great memories, cheers. Hard to believe it was so long ago.

Don’t see Mild in many places these days. Top Lock at Heapey always used to keep one.
