Moses OUT (very good in fits and starts…), NZogbia BACK IN (quality and greater consistency, team player)
N’Zogbia. Team Player.
Not really phrases you normally see very close to one another. ;)
Enough of a team player to be recognised by his team mates and be awarded PLAYERS’ PLAYER OF YEAR (and Supporters Player of Year) for 2009-10. B)
Moses, (understandably) still has scope for development where his decision-making (and finishing) is concerned
e.g. West Brom (H), Bolton (A)…Rodallega nearly throttled him (refusal to pass to better-positioned team-mates) !!
Granted, getting Nzogbia back would be a tall order (maybe non-starter), but if it did happen (and Moses went), I wouldn’t be too disappointed.
To witness again the wonders of NZogbia e.g. Arsenal (3-2), WHU (3-2),
and Stoke (1-0, assist) …great moments !
Topic certainly stimulated some debate …
To be fair, JPC, you make a good point. Comment has been passed on wage demands, however, it is on record that money is available for the right player (talk has been of increasing Moses’ wages for example).
Let’s look at the reasons people (agents) are talking about (ok only on the internet). Money…….alright it’s not reasons but reason. Should Victor move to Chelsea for a reasonable amount (because Tony says so) then why could Charles not come back to us for an increased salary? After all we have (I suppose) all agreed that it is the greed league and that they are all in it for the money only…….if his career has plummeted where he is then he can rebuild here again and we could sell at a profit again…….proper business sense and, I for one, would like to see.
Here is a quick quiz question…………
Apart from our ‘Arry (Arjan de Zeeuw) how many players have gone and returned to our hallowed land?

Tony Kelly for one
I knew you would be first……. ;)
In my heart I would like to nominate my first, and all time favourite, Sir Gordon Milne (on a technicality that he stopped playing…became manager….started playing again……hey I loved the guy).

In my opinion, Mr C, it’s a recipe for disaster if we bring a player back on more money than when he left.
It sends out the message to every player in the squad that if they threaten to leave and kick up enough of a fuss, they’ll get more money.
I’d guess that the offer of a wage increase to Victor Moses is an increase from a young player salary to a senior salary – but still sticking within the club’s wage structure.
If N’zogbia wanted to come back, on the salary he was previously on, I’d welcome him back with open arms, however, I really do not think that will happen and he’ll end up moving to a club for financial reasons not career reasons – which is the a blight of the modern game.
In all fairness we may have a ready made replacement in dicko.
tried to keep an eye on him when I could last season and seen a few comments on the net stating he must start the rest of the games for the season … Big shout considering the forwards they already had in the team.
With a frightening change of pace and an eye for goal I think he is going to be a really good player one day but I would love to see victor build on the latter part of last seasons form.
Martinez is not stupid. He replaced nzogbia with moses two years before we sold him. The same with dicko for moses i wouldnt be surprised if he all ready has a replacement for dicko. Thats how we have work it cause we cant afford direct replacements

I concede to your better judgement on squad and dressing room harmony Mr Standish……..indeed to break the clubs current wage structure would be a step backwards. However, in order to stimulate the debate on could or couldn’t he, radical propositions like this need to be considered – after all if you take out the ‘football’ element to this it could make good business sense in that we could, as a club, see a profit again in the future.
Messrs Salford and Withers also make good points about Vics possible replacement I have heard nothing but good reports about young Nouha and he should be ready, soon, for the 1st team – however, we will not know when that time will be, I just hope it will be sooner rather than later.

But saying that I think I would take 10 million….
As much as I like Victor I’d go and help him pack if someone bid 10mill, he’s not as good as he and his agent think he is IMO.
In response to micky c’s question:
Kevin langley
paul cook
ray woods
arry de zeuww
as players all came back for second spells either permanent or on loan.
Paul jewell & of course roberto came back for second spells as manager.
Bryan hamilton & ray mathias managed the club twice.

I’m just a harmonious type of guy Mr C.

I know people who would Beg Steal of Borrow to have a talent like that Mr Standish.
I know many who are still looking for that talent…seeking in fact.

I took Mrs Micky to a local talent show in Sams Bar last year….she paid the guy 50 quid entrance, agreed to receive 10 singing lessons on-line and drive to Scarborough for the next heat……..I said you bloody idiot. She cried and said well you won’t find another fool like me………
