Some seem to be erring on the side of relegation here !! I thought we were supposed to be getting behind the team in a brave bid to stay in the Prem ? Now that said, should we do the proverbial Harry Houdini surly we will be in the same situation re strikers ! There have been several names bandied about and all have been dismissed as not plausible for varying reasons by several lets say ” Lightsiders ” on here and so can I be as bold as to ask…If we stay up will we have the same strike force minus Rodders ?

I know the reason was because he wanted assurances that if Wigan were relegated his pay would remain the same.At the 11th hour he was informed that the club insisted on a 25% pay cut if this should happen. Why should he sign for a team that through no fault of his were looking likely to drop and be expected to be penalized financially .If the club wanted him a reasonable request like that should have been readily accepted. He would have been an excellent acquisition for our championship charge should we have gone down.I can assure you that thes eare the facts but I am not at liberty to reveal how I know this.

But they are not facts are they? They are merely your opinions based on what you’ve been told. How do you or anyone else know he would have been an “excellent acquisition”? I don’t see him banging in the goals at West Ham.

On the subject of reasonable requests is it not more reasonable for a club to expect players to take a pay cut in the event of, admittedly, collective failure in the form of relegation. I’m sure had it been a promotion players would be looking for a pay increase, which is what’s most likely been offered to him at West Ham.

I also happen to know – not at liberty to reveal how I know, of course – that his attitude and demeanour during the transfer negotiations left a lot to be desired; a case of what can Wigan Athletic do for me rather than what can I do for Wigan Athletic.
Just the type of personality and attitude you want in the dressing room.

Who knows it is hard to tell really in todays paper a rumour connor sammon is wanted by Sheff Wednesday on loan hope it does him good if he goes there will be other strikers in the pipeline what the supporters will not know about I see di Santo stopping and that case Bobby will have to buy a couple of strikers or more than likely have one on loan plus a permanant addition

If we stay up or go down I’m sure “Rodders” will be replaced. My argument is that Maynard isn’t a suitable replacement.

So all the strikers that were mentioned back in January will suddenly be plausible possible signings ? By the way don’t anyone say that they didn’t want to sign in case we went down because I believe that excuse was not used ! It was mainly money or club status !

I’ll stand corrected here but I believe Maynard was the only striker with whom the club held talks in January. He turned us down or we weren’t impressed with him enough to meet his demands, so it didn’t happen. Given his strike rate so far at West Ham I’d say we made the right decision. Other players will come along who we will sign. Some will be shite some may not be.

Mainly money and club status well that would mean we should immediately start scouring the scottish leagues and league 1 and 2 wouldn’t it ? surely

Sammy I was referring to the ” January Transfer Window ” thread on here when every striker that was mentioned as a possible addition was swiftly knocked back for various reasons and so what difference will it make next season should we pull off the great escape ?

I believe Andy Johnson was part of a swap deal involving Rodallega – and it didn’t even get to the ‘holding talks’ stage.

Well I hope this is not too radical a view but I think the opinions of the people who post on here have absolutely no bearing on who the club sign or don’t sign.
Unfortunately, trying to persuade players to play for Wigan Athletic rather than any of the other Premiership clubs and quite a few in the Championship must be one hell of a task. Surely you must have come to that realisation by now and the proof, if proof is needed, is staring you in the face from 19th place.

Sammy,Dare I say it ( Again ! ) Its a catch 22 scenario ! Stay up and struggle again or go down and play on a more level playing field without the frills of the Prem ! I get slated for wanting to stay up and do well or better at least and I get slated for saying we are better off in Championship or League One !! The latter does seem to have a slight edge for me personally for the very reasons you give for problems faced in attracting players !!

I cannot understand why anyone would welcome relegation. Even if every season is a struggle and more of a struggle with each new season, the prestige of being in “The Premier League” defying all the odds with our meagre resources and upsetting all who think we shouldn’t be there, including the rugby lot, is reason enough. That said, I believe playing in the Championship would provide games that were more competitive and thereby more enjoyable.
However, it would be one big ask to expect to see PL football at the DW again not least because the will and desire that made it possible seven years ago is unlikely to be there again. If this is to be the end of the dream then enjoy it while you can.

” Prestige ” !!! You could be right there because I end up turning into a pressure cooker every time I go on !! We have had 7 seasons to adapt to the PL but have chosen the financial safe option. Now I am not saying that is wrong but if you are going to cut your cloth accordingly in the PL a division that survives purely from money and greed then you are not going to survive ! I keep getting told by other posters that its been a dream ride and it cant last forever and to stop moaning and so I have decided to give in re PL ambitions and wait and see what the Championship has to offer but I aint holding my breath !!
