The final 500 tickets were released for general sale at 9.00am this morning to personal callers at the ticket office and were sold before midday.

The club can confirm that there will be no additional tickets.

3,750 Wigan Athletic supporters will travel to the Etihad Stadium next Sunday.

So we only accepted 3,750 tickets – we were entitled to 6,0000. A pity.

You can’t really blame the club for taking the lower allocation. At the same stage of the competition last year we took less than 2,000 to Goodison. On that basis a choice between 3,000 or 6,000 wasn’t a choice at all in truth.

I disagree. Seeing as there is a guaranteed £427,500 just for being on TV in the 6th round, then the club could have taken a punt on the extra 2250 tickets and even if none of them were sold, the cost would have been a maximum of £45,000, with the added advantage of 2250 less City fans cheering their side on.

Judging by the speed at which the remaining tickets went on sale suggests that most, if not all, of the tickets would have sold next week, particularly as today was payday for many working people.

And you’d have creamed your kecks at the sight of 2250 empty seats in the Wigan end, no doubt.

Latics are a club looking to fill in a very large hole in their income since relegation, & whilst they’ve made great strides in cost cutting whilst not decimating the squad, every penny really does count.
Therefore if it comes down to having a guaranteed £45,000 in their own or City’s bank account then the club is going to choose the former every time & rightly so

Wigan have been rather coy about the number of tickets. They haven’t actually said whether they were on sale or return or not.

Last season we were a struggling Premier League team. This year we are the Cup Holders and a thrusting Championship team with a growing away following!

Manchester City have provided some information for supporters in regard to works being completed around the Eithad Stadium that may impact on fans travelling to Sunday’s game.

In order to ensure that service diversion works can be carried out safely, hoardings have been erected at the South end (away end) of the Etihad Stadium.

This impacts the amount of space immediately outside the visiting supporters entrances and may impact queuing and access through these entrances; click here for stadium plan. To assist fans arriving at the stadium, both additional signage and staff will be in place.

To ensure that supporters enter the stadium via the correct entrances, there will be an additional soft ticket check upon arrival. The advice therefore to all visiting supporters is to arrive early to avoid any delays when entering the stadium.
