Nothing to do with perkins going off another bad decision by Caldwell when James came on he should of gone straight to left back and put Mcann cent midfield and replaced vudik with Jordi instead of the useless cowie. Also I wouldn’t of put yanic on tonight.

spot on, you can only blame Caldwell. Why pish around with shape when you winning 3-0. Yan came on far too early, Daniels was exposed with no cover in front. I would have also stuck Hiwayla on for a knackered Grigg late on just to make their back line sit up and think and what’s with the James and McCann thing ??

I’m sick of repeating myself but an good experienced manager would have a field day with our squad.

I think the decision not to put McCann in the middle was down to him being booked. Last thing we wanted to happen at 3-2.

To be fair cup winners the previous 2 “experienced” managers we had didn’t do that well now did they. Yes caldwell is inexperienced, he is still learning etc, etc… & yes, last night, he got it wrong, especially from the position we were in. But, we are still in a decent position with an inexperienced manager who brought in a whole new team during the summer. He’s not doing that bad – check the league table, but he made a mistake last night & all being well he will learn from that.

Any manager at 3 up would have brought on replacements, no issue with that. James should have gone to his natural position and McCann to his. Past that it was what we’ve done against teams all season and a taste of our own medicine.

3-0 We think we’ve done enough. At 0-0 no way do they score that first goal, completely bone idle defending from all involved. 3-2 similar. For 3-3 a man who shouldn’t even be near the reserves gives the ball away and our ‘Ace’ Keeper does that thing that he did. We also missed a sitter at 3-2 between Grigg & Power. A lot when wrong from 3-0 and it was all in the mind. They shouldn’t have been able to finish like they did against a fit team either, after they took United all the way on Saturday night.

Freak performance, freak result. Get them in for extra training.

            Agree completely.

For me, we need another decent central midfielder – because once Perkins came off and Cowie went on, we fell apart in the middle.

Plus we need a decent centre half.

Barnett needs to go. In a team where passing is the key element, he likes one vital skill: the ability to pass.

They weren’t in Div1 facing some dour teams. I havn’t seen one club yet that were head and shoulders the rest, all’s I’m saying , when it counts and the points depend of the choice of who and when Caldwell is a poor decision maker. Simply play the player in position when needed

I know you have some unfounded hatred for Perkins, but did you actually watch the same game as me?

Vuckic was replaced by Wildschut, not Cowie. Cowie came on when Perkins went off – so it was a straight midfielder-for-midfielder swap.

Likewise, Wildschut replaced Vuckic in another like for like swap as he started off by playing with Jacobs just behind Grigg, but when they started to overrun midfield, Wildschut was sent out to the wing because he was doing bugger all to help out defensively in the middle.

The fritnin thing is, we were 3 up, playing at tempo, against one of the best sides in the league and we had Barnett in the team.

Just goes to show we should be top of the league with the players we have, playing the right way. So many silly points dropped.

We’ll see what team he puts out Saturday and what they’re made off but more of the same has to be the message. We were great for 3/4’s of that last night normally we’re crap for that long!

All their goals came down our right side.

For the first we had Wildschut on the right wing who doesn’t track back plus Daniels who had a mare and Barnett as the right-sided CB.
For the second Jacobs, equally inept at tracking back, had swapped with Wildschut so the problem hadn’t been addressed.
James comes on for Barnett so they shift the back four across to accommodate him because we don’t have a CB on the bench and the third goes in.

Also, at 3-1 Widschutt, then on the left, sets up Grigg who for the third time squanders a clear-cut chance to put the game out of reach.

I still have to be convinced about Grigg. He needs too many chances to score, lacks close control and is too lightweight to play the lone striker role.

The deficiencies are there to see. I expect them to be sort out this month.

He scored with his first chance last night ;)

I get you though. Point is, if he scored every time he wouldn’t play for Wigan or be in League One.

I’m not expecting him to be scoring in every game and I’m not just talking about the chances he missed in last night’s game. From what I’ve seen of him so far and allowing for the fact he’s a League One striker, he misses far too many good, clear cut opportunities .
And for the record, I’m certainly not blaming him for last night’s debacle even though he did miss that easy chance at 3-1.

Seriously? Caldwell, Joe Parkinson and Graham Barrow don’t have a football brain between them, but you do?

McCann was having a good game at wingback – and his introduction there last Thursday instead of James was one of the catalysts for the win. So why, when a midfielder is injured and you have a like-for-like midfielder on the bench, start shuffling a team who have already scored three and are playing well – especially down the left?

Perkins was injured, and you have Cowie – a defensive midfielder on the bench. Straight swap.

Vuckic is injured and you have an attacking Wildschut – and attacking midfielder on the bench. Again, straight swap.

As it transpired Cowie had by far the his worst game in an already unremarkable and uneventful career, and Wildschut also looked woeful. But hindsight’s a wonderful thing.

No you might not have criticised Perkins, but predictably, you’re saying him going off wasn’t a major reason for the capitulation of the midfield that a good number have claimed it was.
