it’s more than our lodgers 6.5k they took to their semi last year, and that was only 1 hour away
we cant really argue about attendances if we fail to get a good number for wembley, the rugby usually nearly sell out dont they in finals ?[/quote]
Not really but it is difficult to tell coz of the culture round challenge cup finals.
It’s always been treated as the big day out for the sport & a chance for them there Northerners to have a day in the sun watching rugby!! As a result the 2 clubs in the final don’t get the bulk tickets that the football clubs do for their finals/semi-finals. The tickets are on sale for yonks & you’ll find every tom, dick & harry from every club in attendance – I know a lad who’s a Leigh fan & a group of them go every year despite the fact that Leigh haven’t been near the final for the best part of 40 years
Similarly plenty of Wigan RL fans will have bought a ticket for the final long before they know whether their club is likely to get there
I do remember however when the final was at Murrayfield that Wigan RL got 12k tickets & they sent 6k of em back3 April 2013 at 6:31 pm #107461it’s more than our lodgers 6.5k they took to their semi last year, and that was only 1 hour away

And a member of that 1971 Leigh team can be seen shuffling slowly between the Brickmakers’ and DW at 14.30 every Wigan Athletic matchday.3 April 2013 at 6:51 pm #107462Anonymous
I don’t buy into this ‘the trip to London being too expensive and we are in a recession etc, etc’. How often will you get a chance to see Wigan in Wembley? It’s a once off cost ffs. Get down to London and support your team.

Semi shouldn’t be at wembley, end of. Costs too much, the travel isn’t fair for both sides and it takes some of the prestige away from the final, nonsense idea to pay for wembley.Spot on. Totally agree.
But lets not panic just yet. QPR away on Sunday, a few might be waiting til after that. And we know what Wiganers are like….a lot will leave getting tickets til last minute….keep money in their bank longer!
If we make the final though, I hope the club is savvy about how they sell final tickets. We’d get 25k so make it first come first served for ST holders, max 2 per ticket, for first week of sale. Then any what’s left on general sale. That would also eradicate any need for mad queuing at daft hours, apart from when the few that’s left go on general sale.
Season ticket holders would be sorted and have a week to casually get a ticket.
3 April 2013 at 7:06 pm #107465It’s not that big a novelty. Have seen Latics four times there already. Only difference this time is there’s nowt to win but a trip to return 4 weeks later! Why any Latics fans would be arsed about attendances is beyond me. Have spent years sitting in empty away ends from Port Vale in the 4th division to Arsenal in the Prem. Playing some tinpot London club whose reputation only revolves around violence and racism is hardly that big a deal. We will sell out if we get to Final for all those obsessed with support!
And You Mr Tipperary can talk all you want about one off costs but I have 4 young boys to take down at the cost of £210 simply for tickets. This will likely be double for the final. Im lucky i can pay it but for many it may be a summer holiday or two trips to Wembley. All to watch a load of overpaid blokes who complain about playing more than 90 minutes a week!

FA Cup semi final is a novelty and a European place to play for? I suppose it’s really a case of how much it means to you. It’s costing me close to €500 for ticket, flights, hotel but I wouldn’t miss it for the world and I wouldn’t call myself well off (work in the public service). I’m not suggesting the more you spend on Wigan the more of a supporter you are but I can’t accept the economic argument. Most people moaning about costs are the same people that will spend the weeekend in the boozer. It’s not hugely expensive and as I said it’s a once off.

Most people moaning about costs are the same people that will spend the weeekend in the boozer. That’s a massive presumption.. and one that is, more than likely, wrong!
I sympathise with anyone who has to pay for a FULL family to go down to Wembley for the game.
It’s gonna be a dear do just for myself, so I can understand why people may be reluctant to spend daft money when money itself is very tight at the moment.I also have to aim a couple of questions at everybody kicking off about how many tickets we’ve sold:
1) How many do you THINK we’ve sold so far?
2) How many were you actually EXPECTING to buy tickets?3 April 2013 at 7:42 pm #107468Most people moaning about costs are the same people that will spend the weeekend in the boozer.

2. 25kCheers… I’m just curious.
3 April 2013 at 8:05 pm #107470Club must be a bit worried as I’ve just had an e-mail (so called) from Martinez calling for support, no doubt that has gone out to everbody on the database.
Rugby lot will say they always sell out but every club in the leagues buy tickets weeks before anyone knows who’ll be playing, not to mention their games and most others at wembley won’t be at 5.15pm, with no trains back v the most feared (sic) club in the country. With a very good chance of a return visit a few weeks later when prices will be even dearer.
Fck em, there’ll be more than double what we last took to Wembley v Millwall, when most of the ticket worriers on here probably weren’t there.
3 April 2013 at 8:05 pm #10747127000 at Cardiff and for me the atmosphere was crap, give me 15000 true supporters instead of 31000 plastics anyday.
Millwall 1999 at wembley – brilliant atmosphere
Gillingham 2000 at Wembley – brilliant atmosphere
Arsenal away semi final – brilliant atmosphere
Everton FA Cup Q/F – brilliant atmosphere
Carling Cup Final – 3-10 times more than any of the above matches and the worst atmosphere going.3 April 2013 at 8:12 pm #107474Anonymous

However how much of a saving would it be for the supporter if the game was on in Manchester and not London?. I’m assuming the extra cost we are talking about is travel costs? Is it a certainty that people who are not going because of costs WOULD have bothered their arse going to a semi final in Manchester anyway??
