wouldnt go down very well so ill be very nice instead griff and will not say it
Well, I just want to make it clear here and now, that when I win the lottery I will NOT be buying the club. In fact, I doubt I’ll still be watching Latics, as most of my time will be spent in the Carribean, or having as much sex as is possible with my ‘harem’ of beuties at my Malibu beach front home.
Football? Sod that for a mugs game.
(I’d also grow my hair long, bleach blonde, a la Simon Jordan. Just for the fun of it)
He will do what he wants to do, and when he wants to do it, and that’s fair enough.
No-one can doubt anything he has done for WAFC whether he has made money or lost money.
We are in the best state we have ever been financially and it is mainly down to him.
Yes, the Sky money helps, but there was hardly any of that until 5 years ago.
I wish him well in the future, and thank him for making my football club what it is today.
Blackburn are apparently being bought for £45M so someone will have to fork out a similar amount for us. Anyone spending that sort of money will surely be looking to progress the club to make it worth more money should they eventually sell it.
Hopefully when he does decide to go he will get the best possible deal for Wigan Athletic and any worries of a dramatic decline in our status will not materialise.

I’m afraid when Mr Whelan does decide to call it a day it will be a very sad day indeed for our football club.
But I think we need to be a bit realistic about who is likely to buy our club. I don’t think anyone looking to make a quick buck is going to be interested as we quite simply don’t have the fan base or the history to maximise merchanising revenues etc.
I mean do you think any of our players have mega bucks image rights deals? I don’t see us flying out to the Far East to give our millions of Chinese fans a glimpse of our passing football under Bob. When was the last time we filled our ground? We simply don’t have the fanbase to be an attractive buy.
The only way our club is sustainable is if we have someone of the ilk of Dave Whelan who loves the club and is prepared to subsidise us. Even then we are always going to be a selling club trying to balance the books by good housekeeping. Unless of course some billionaire comes in and decides to play Fantasy Football with Little Wigan to see if he can turn them into Champions League winners.
I hope Uncle Dave stays with us for as long as possible
It could always be lazy journalists trying to make interest in the game on Saturday, with Blackburn selling or almost being sold and Whelan being known to want to sell one day, they link them together.
Its like the Nzog links to Liverpool appear 2 weeks before we play them…..
Maybe we should buy it between us, a fans consortium of JCLs and Diehards buy out chairman Dave and JayT can run a weekly competition to select the team. :D
In my opinion i think Whelan, if he is going to sell, might do it sooner rather than later to cash in our Premier league status. I don’t know what effect being in the Championship would have on the value of the club but it won’t go up thats for sure.
Not saying that w’ere going down, just that it is a possibility.
Oh, one more thing, i know Dave has done amazing things with our club but has he really been left 100 million out of pocket, or is he just saying that’s how much he’s spent and he’s recouped most through Sky money and transfer fee’s?

No Whelan was obviously interviewed at the Blackburn game on Saturday, which is why my old mate Andy got the full quotes.
I think you’ll find it is lazy national journalists who took out the fact he said he might sell one day to make it look like he put the club up for sale this week.
