He looked like he was playing as a centre half to me ! How can one quality finish become 3 or 4 ? Surely it’s 3 or 4 quality finishes that would have resulted in a 3 or 4 nil !

The big lad played in centre-midfield.
He was fairly defensive though to be fair ! Ran the show for them and getting beat by them was not the end of the World because they are a half decent side in my opinion !

I thought we were miles better than them in the first half and then we went to sleep in the second half.

Coyle’s motivational skills is to walk from his seat into the technical area and wave his hands around pretending to be a windmill. Perhaps he should wear a suit, he might then look the part of a manager.

Quite. Roberto would stand calmly on the touchline, quietly beckoning his players to adjust their positions by a yard here and a couple of feet there.

Coyle’s reaction to an opposition attack is to jump off the bench, wave his arms wildly in the air and shout at the players to get stuck in.

Sadly, it doesn’t seem to have the same effect on the players. They’re probably trying not to laugh. It is comical, especially when he’s wearing his match-day shorts.
at one spell he was screaming Barnett Barnett get in there,i am sure his name is Leon Barnett no wonder he ignored him.

If we had gone one nil u,p Brighton would have had to be more positive and the back door would have been left open for our pacey wingers to exploit.

If you really thought that the number 38 was playing centre half, what position did you think the 4 players stood behind were playing.?

Well he played defensively enough for me and my failing eyes to think he was playing centre half ! He was man of the match for me anyroad !

I wont argue with that Philmoss although their number 23 ran him close, Conway I think.

Because we pay to watch games and most games have been terrible to watch.

And that differs from most of the previous 4 seasons how?

But how anyone be as fooked off as some you are on here?

Because we never look like scoring and have changed from a passing team to a hoof ball team.

The players don’t seem to have a clue about the Managers tactics – if that’s what you can call them – either.

And as for our so called strikers ……………………..
And yet, despite those valid observations (some of which could made for the last 4 seasons) and despite the massive upheaval over the last 6 months, I repeat: we are 11th, on the edge of the playoffs, with a game in hand, and still in 2 cups.

                  Glass half full.

The games haven’t been terrible to watch for four years!

The team has done its best to play football, often against teams with much more skilful players. Whilst Wigan have been cutting the size of their squad and their wage bill, other teams have been vastly increasing theirs.

Wigan have found it hard to compete, but not because of any lack of effort from the manager or the players. The players collectively simply weren’t good enough to compete with other squads.

The problem today is quite different. It’s not the lack of resources, it’s the the lack of direction. The squad is overflowing with good midfield players, most of whom have Premier League experience. But the manager has failed to get them to play in any organised manner. On occasions they haven’t been involved in the play at all.

I would be in total disagreement. The issue is that we have a range of poor quality midfielders, that none of which see the need to take control of a game and dominate. McCann is awful, Watson has one good game in 6, McCarthur is missing McCarthey or a decent player to play alongside but puts in a more of a shift than most, Espinoza is class and for what ever reason isnt being given a run. Wingers need to be given the chance, albrighton is rubbish.

Well, we do agree that midfield isn’t working.

Coyle has inherited Boyce, McArthur, Gomez, Watson, Beausejour, Espinoza and McManaman (plus Maloney too). He has added McClean, McCann, Powell and now Albrighton.

How many more players does he need to produce a working midfield?

Couldn’t disagree more, on almost every player you mention.

Still you’re entitled to your opinion I suppose, as deep and insightful as it was.

What I don’t understand is when did Espinoza become a world-beater?

The player I remember had loads of energy but a shocking first touch at times.

He’s decent, but he’s certainly not the player to turn the whole season around.

Agreed – if I’m actually allowed to do that.

There’s an element of Emperor’s New Clothes about Espinoza. Decent, as you say, but he’s no Jordi Gomez ;)

Not sure if this is a ‘bite’ reply, but not sure how your view is the opposite of this.

McCann, awful, no insight into games, very few occurences when going forward makes any breakthrough, cant control a game and always chasing the ball.

Watson has 1 good game in 6, please confirm the contratory ?

McCarthur, i rate the player, but on his own out there cant make the impact he is known to do.

I still await Albrightens contributrion that isnt selfish, or indeed skillfull.

McClean and McManaman need to be played regularly for me to try and build form.
