Girlie, now there’s a blast from the past. Not even seen her posting on FB for yonks, never mind on here
Girlie was a great poster. Remember her not half fighting her corner over the foxhunting ban. Can`t remember who she was arguing with but it was great viewing.[/quote]
Oh aye, she were proper posh, was Girlie. They were great days, much better than today. Penelope Pitstop was another good ‘un – until you met her in real life and realised she was an axe murderer.
Wouldnt it be good if all the owd legends came back on here? :woohoo:
Some do…..the others wouldn’t like to give up their other site,
It’s all about balance, objective and subjective opinions, for and against….. the poster who ‘whinged (sp)’ about people who complain that this is a ‘football’ forum should check out the plethora of other pages within this site (call me old fashioned but isn’t there a part of the Board Categories entitled “Non football stuff”….”music and movies” etc) as well as all the fastidiously researched and documented history as well.
Oh!…..I like the cut of the jib of the person wanting a position in your fictitious (and wanting) starting XI having told everyone of their ’62’ response to one thread. Unfortunately, for them, that is chicken feed….this (morph) of the board is fairly recent, having been forced upon us by the ‘system’….those before us went into mega reads. I, for instance, had a particular bit of banter with one “Beetlejuice” (a couple of years ago)……..a troll of good rapport………and kept me on my toes…..that had over three thousand views and bettered any of the number of posts currently set here.
However, that is not the point. This is not a dick showing contest…..those calling for the ‘old guard’ want in on a happening board because ‘maybe’ the splinter groups have not been as exciting as first thought.
OOOOps….added to your post count here (bit like you did earlier when you took the opportunity to place two posts….within two minutes of each other……when one would have done).
[insert appropriate smiley here]
Mr Nuneaton……I chose your post to build my response….I respond to the original poster……and value (as always) your quality input on this board.
I am sorry but I don’t have the history or knowledge of past posters from way back, so I can only pick my team based on my short time seeing the candidates in action.
It took be quite a while and sleepless hours, but here is my selection.
1. JayT – Great initial distribution, kicking abilty quite good when needed.
2. Landgate – Gets up and down, decent work rate also a good left foot when things get out of hand and not afraid to put the boot in if needed.
3. Jrtfatfan – Snarling no nonsense defender, some brutal tackling at times, could control his winding opponents up though.
4. Mickey C (capt.) – Old school, says little but when he does he means it, what ever you do don’t get on the wrong side of him his bite is worse than his bark.
5. Nuneaton – Returned after a number of years with a top midlands outfit, solid if unspectacular team member, but a managers delight.
6. Standish – Cultured, intelligent and two footed ,when he speaks others listen
7. Arky – Drifts in and out, some baffling displays at times but every now and then has a cracker. Organises the team outings.
8. LMB – At times can inspire, but seems to prefer upsetting team harmony and causing chaos , then goes missing for long periods.
9. Griff – Typical target man, leads the line well at times, but doesn’t help and is often critical of lesser team members, like all main players, has a high opinion of himself leading to others taking potshots at him
10. Filmoss – Plays the support role to Griff and it shows, they have an understanding outside the board, sometimes when he steps out of his shadows he shows great promise.
11. Horc – Hard choice this one – could easily have been bickymon outspoken left wingers who criticise every aspect of the running of the club, but keep things ticking over and moving.
I said earlier I really do think there is a place for an up and coming newbie like myself but modesty prevented me from including myself on this occasion.
Excuse me capt. (mickyc), not that I dare to contradict, but my claim of 62 replies may have not been the biggest one on Cockney Latic, I doubt that very much, there have been some great debates in the past that I can only dream of catching, what I was trying to point out was or asking, for a maiden post 62 replies is pretty good, if not a leading contender.
