This is all I seem to be hearing from people, whether it be my mates, fans of other clubs or latics fans on here.
Is it really that bad?
I went to Villa and cannot remember seeing a better premiership performance. We were then stunned by a hard working Wolves side and admit we were terrible. The expectation from the Villa game made this harder to take. Meanwhile Man U got an even bigger shock losing to Burnley. I can’t think of a worse time for any team to play them, and we ended up getting drubbed. I wouldn’t have put my money on anyone beating them that day.
Which brings us to Blackpool. When I first saw the score I was horrified. But as it sunk in i realised 75% of the team had never played a single competitive match together, so what should we expect.
So we now have 3 points from 3 games and have 4 tough game to come. Which seems to have been the case for the last 4 seasons. Who’s to say we won’t go and perform like we did at villa. Then If Bobby sorts the Home tactics out. There is no reason we can’t break into the top 4.
Is it really that Bad?
28 August 2009 at 1:13 am #7058Well said sir. ( although you spoilt it a little with the top 4 bit )
I can’t believe some of the negative crap I’ve read on here in the last 2 days.
If we had been saddled with a new manager who nobody wanted , say a 15 club mercenery or even worse someone with Bolton connections, then I could understand it more. But for f***s sake , Bob is one of us. He was genuinely proud to be returning to his beloved Latics & he happens to be one of the most promising young managers in the country.
For people to call for his head after getting 3 points from 3 games ( including MU & AV ) , is an absolute disgrace. Forget Blackpool, our priorities obviously lie elsewhere & we therefore fielded a side who didn’t fancy a wet & windy night on the west coast.
All this calling for managers heads after 3 or 4 games sickens me. You shouldn’t be called supporters , you should called hinderers !!! :x
28 August 2009 at 1:19 am #7059You realised 75% of the team had never played together. And what about Blackpool.
Headlines in todays papers say it all, Blackpool Reserves 4-1 Wigan.
Meant to be premier league players and we cant beat championship team who hasnt won this season playing its reserves. Yes, great.
28 August 2009 at 1:21 am #7060Yes it is pretty pap at the moment imho.
The reason being as follows….5 seasons into the “promised land” and we can’t cobble together a reserve team to go to Blackpool and give them a decent game! The reason….no continuity. Every transfer window we loose key players and don’t replace them.
So far other than the teams already in Europe we are the only “Greed League” team to go out/crash out of the league cup.
Its embarrassing especially seeing as the Carling Cup is realistically the only half chance a club like ours has of getting to a Wembley final.
If Wigan Athletic exsists purely to line the pockets of the chairman, which increasingly looks the case then as stated at the beginning its pretty pap for us fans.
28 August 2009 at 1:37 am #7064I would like to share your optimism Dalyo but am finding it quite hard having seen that shower of shyte last night.
I walked off Villa Park with a Liam Gallagher swagger staring out the oncoming villa fans like a cat who had just rubbished all the milk. Then down to earth with a bang, like you say against a team who did a “Wigan Athletic style” job on us.
The highs and lows of the united game made it hard to realise what standard of team we actually are, having fought toe to toe for the best part of an hour against the EPL champs, then bushak! colapse of the Roman empire. Now lets get round to last night. The things that botherered me the most were:
1) We have shown in 2 out of the 3 games played, that we have not got the players to pass our way out from the back. Bobby looks intent on continuing with this style and thats really worrying. What’s more worrying is that when we do pass our way out the back four and its in midfield, the short passing game stops and we suddenly start rushing things and finally resort to a 50 yard punt across field, hitting the winger at head height or hitting row F. Are we a slick, little traingle passing team, as per the old Liverpool team of the 80’s or are we a hoof boltonesque side?
2) It was a great opportunity for the likes of Watson[misplaced 27 passes], King[ ofseed again], Edman [caught in possesion], Scotland[couldn’t trap a bag of cement], Pollitt [couldn’t catch a bag of cement] and Boyce [would not be able to link up with Jodie Marsh], to stake their claim, yet not one of these looked good enough to get in the Blackpool side put out last night.
I’m not being funny but they should have bust a gut for Bobby last night.
3) As for Bobby. I’m still excited by his signing, but come on matey, arms folded all night looking like a civil servant waiting for a bus. Get the lazy barstewards bolluked!!. Me and my mate were arguing which 3 players would be subbed at half time and yet the same embaressing 11 trundled out. Surely DDR deserved a chance having played some decent pre season games. Lets see your nast streak Bobby, to survive as a premiership manager you’ll need one. Ady Boothroyd was a nice man, where is he now?
4) I know we need to give some of the new players time to settle at the club, but if they are good enough, just like Diame and Scott Sinclair they will look class for periods of the game.[ If SS is not in the starting 11 Sunday, then I’ll start getting really worried about our management team].
This Ayama, Scotland and McCarthy looked out their depth against a below average championship team. The juries still out on these, lets see if they prove me wrong after 6 or 7 prem starts.5) Finally, some of our supporters. I realise that the numpty’s walking across the pitch side shouting abuse and showing the old two fingered salute after the second goal went in, were probably out just for a trip to the local watering holes, but FFS, they were more embaressing than the players in blue and white. I was sat there in my orange flourescent jacket, looking a pilluck and feeling a pilluck watching my team being mauled and felt like doing that, but hey lets not go overboard just yet.
So as daleyo says lets not throw ourselves off the pier yet and see what 5 or 6 more games bring.
From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!28 August 2009 at 2:04 am #7072Firstly the top 4 thing was a bit of fun Manny.
Headlines in tabloids don’t tell the whole story Bobby
I have just checked Blackpool’s Last league game team sheet. They had 9 players who took part in both games. I doubt that these players have never played together before. We had 4 that took part. That whole team had barely even met, nevermind being expected to win a competitive game. It doesn’t matter how good players are they will not gel like that. A championship side that comes up and keeps most of its winning players together will more likely succeed than a side that buys all new so called better players.
JR I agree the player that did perform SS should get a start and make the rest more hungrier than ever to impress when called upon.
Is it really that bad?
28 August 2009 at 2:10 am #7076How could Scotland be out of his depth against a championship side, a league in which he scored a panful last season?
Lazy, dis-interested, ideas above his station maybe, but out of his depth? It’s a fact that he isn’t.

This is what I wrote and was totally bob on
“This Ayama, Scotland and McCarthy looked out their depth against a below average championship team. ”
The word “looked” described what I saw last night. What he did last season means jackshit i’m afraid Griff.

28 August 2009 at 10:55 am #7110Me…..Going to keep faith.
Think we can get something from the Everton game, but yes some of the players think they have “made it” now they are in the Prem, but the Blackpool game was a very bad result indeed.
But heah, still living the dream.
COME ON WIGAN :D
28 August 2009 at 11:27 am #7111I dont think Wigan are definately going to go down! I think there are worse clubs than us (not that thats a great way to stay in the league). I think come the end of the season we’ll be above Burnley, Wolves, Birmingham, Portsmouth, Bolton and Hull at least!
Its just worrying slightly with the signings (as i’ve said in other posts), how can Stoke get Huth and Tuncay and Wigan not even look interested in even trying to sneak in (More so Tuncay not Huth), we just look for Championship players or cast offs!
One annoying thing about Bobby is he’s probably too nice, and nice gets you no-where! Bramble against Wolves smashed about 10 balls into touch trying to pass it upfield from the back and Bobby was just shouting from the line “Bramble” and giving him a thumbs up! Dont give him a thumbs up b**lock him! I just cant imagine him shouting at them like prossibly Bruce or Jewell would have?
All in all we’ll be ok! :D *fingers crossed*
28 August 2009 at 11:44 am #7112John,
it’s not a case of Bobby being too nice. He is just professional. he will giving them a bollocking in the dressing room but nver in front of the public. As when you do that you loose all respect for your manager.28 August 2009 at 11:51 am #7113John,

As when you do that you loose all respect for your manager.Yeah but you cant keep doing the same thing wrong in such a short period of time i.e. 90 mins and getting a thumbs up for it! He should’ve brought Bramble to one side and give him a good hiding or something?
28 August 2009 at 1:11 pm #713428 August 2009 at 2:07 pm #7142He should’ve brought Bramble to one side and give him a good hiding or something? That is simply not the way to work with Titus. The lad has had enough public humiliation in the past and is one player who needs to be treated with kid gloves, and needs quiet encouragment rather than bollocking.
I don’t get all this managers should be on the side of the pitch screaming & shouting either.
If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs ….then you’ll have an head……and they won’t :? …..or whatever !!!
