Or what ever its name is. Fans boycot that stand till its name is given a latics hero name like Harry lyon, Jason Roberts, Graeme Jones. Get in the corner of the West stand. That name must be never uttered on the breath of a true blue.
Imagine Anfield with a Dixie Dean stand or Citehs council stadium having a George Best stand or the main enclosure at Old Trafford cricket ground being named The White Rose Enclosure. Imagine Paddys bar at Ibrox or the Union Flag Flying over Celtic Park (it should). What about the Tangerine Bar at Deepdale or an Alan Shearer stand at Turf Moor.
This could only happen at Latics. At a time when we are finally not the underdogs in our part of Lancashire. When we were the underdogs that vermin club would have gladly and arrogantly ground us in to the ground. Get out of that stand now and remember the insults and mockery. Never forget and let them know on any occasion that we are top dogs now.
Actually the Wigan cycling club stand has quite a nice ring to it.20 August 2009 at 12:38 am #5714somehow, I doubt itll catch on.
20 August 2009 at 12:39 am #5715What a fantastic post, at last there is someone else with a bit of the old guard b****x about him.
Billy Buxton Stand my a**e, it will always be the East Stand until it re named after someone or something to do with the Latics.
You are right tashmon, it could happen nowhere else but Wigan, it f*****g sickens me to the core all this one town thugby loving s***e20 August 2009 at 12:41 am #5716I would love it if it did happen. But what about all the people that have bought season tickets in the east stand?
20 August 2009 at 12:48 am #5718It’s nothing like the same though is it.
If Celtic and Rangers shared a ground (regardless of who owns it, still DW as far as I know at the minute) then there’d be things in place for both clubs.
Imagine two fierce rivals (at the same sport as well. wow fancy that) like Lazio and Roma, or AC Milan and Inter Milan sharing a ground. No f*cking way could that happen. Oh wait – IT DOES!!!!
Yes I understand the history and what went on, but times have changed. Now Latics are a PL club and Wigan aren’t as successful as they once were. Instead of sounding like bitter old men and making Latics fans look like idiots – why not be happy that now you are the towns big club (although as stated, both sides get around about the same home attendance) and the rugby club are in your shadow. Why not be happy that the rugby club pay the football club rent? Why not be happy that if Latics have a bog standard league match and Wigan have a big playoff game that could decide their season, then Latics will play at home and the rugby will have to play elsewhere? Why not focus your attentions on getting behind Latics from whatever stand you like instead of petty comments like ‘i’m not sitting there because it’s an even number and I only like odd numbers’

20 August 2009 at 12:53 am #5722tbh, I’d agree with most of that. But considering It’s OUR stadium. Why is one of the stands named after a Wigan Worriers player? That’s like Eastlands having an Eric Cantona stand. It just shouldn’t happen. And although there’s little we can do about it. We would still like it to be changed. Just like I’d like to win the lottery, but it’s unlikely isn’t it?
20 August 2009 at 12:56 am #5723Please don’t call our fans idiots just because they remember the days when Wigan rugby fans rubbed our noses in the ground and are still feeling bitter about it. I am one of those fans and would sooner piss on a rugby fan than look at them.
thank fook I’m in the west and sat on a blue seat. Now how big of an idiot does that make me.
From Matlock to ManU

It doesn’t, but whining and moaning about the name of a stand does. I mean what does it actually matter? A stand at City is called The Bell End ffs
20 August 2009 at 1:02 am #5728Is it OFFICIALLY our stadium now then?
Has Whelan signed it over to us yet?
My hatred for the rugby is not what it was. No, I don’t like them, I just don’t give them much thought, really.
I DO remember all the years when they treated us with hatred and contempt, though.
Regarding the stand thing, I sit in the East, in ES6 (Central) and am quite happy there, to be honest.
(Few new posters appearing today, and anarchistic ones, at that)

hahahahaha, I wondered when a stand would be named the Bell end!

As I said in my post – I don’t think so.
Rugby fans never used to think twice about Latics let alone look for their results. Now they’re concerned and even sing a song about not liking them. Something else that should make the Latics fans smile.
20 August 2009 at 1:11 am #5734Who owns the DW Stadium? erm, let me think Dean Windass?
20 August 2009 at 1:27 am #5737The numbers looked to be up in the West Stand last night, maybe a few have boycotted the East Stand.

All what you say above may be true and so be it, but it misses the point. I bet if either of the clubs you mention own the ground, their tennent won’t have a Stand named after one of their idols. If it was jointly owned or independently owned then thats different.
We know we are the main team in Wigan and they are in our shadow.
We are glad they pay us rent and understand totally the economics of the arrangement.
We know that we will now get priority over fixture clashes, and we do get behind our team and focus on all things latics.
The point you seem to have missed is it is a football ground owned by our football club, by all means rent it out if it gets sone income, but why name anything after some peanut hugging klump who has no affiliation to WAFC.
Its plain wrong, embarrassing and laughable. -
