I can’t stand them but I wouldn’t include Nob End as a shite side.

I wouldn’t say many of them have outplayed us either. Ipswich didn’t and Bolton didn’t, we just can’t/don’t take our chances.

We have been in a relegation scrap since the first ball was kicked SH77. We got a great start though and now our fans (or some) think we should be playoff material yet would have all snapped your hand off for 16th at the start of the season.

I’m sure most would have taken 16th at the beginning of the season. I can’t say I would be enthusiastic to watch such uninspiring stuff. But if we could bank that 16th place, and prepare for next season, fair enough.

Trouble is I don’t think we’ve bottomed out. I could be completely wrong and we go onto pick-up a healthy points haul. But we haven’t been ticking along, picking up the odd points, home and away. We have won 1 point from 27 away and relied on great home form.

Our next three home games are Brum, Sheff U and Villa. Is Cook going to be telling us we can’t expect too much? Because if we pick up any less than 3pts from those fixtures, and our away form doesn’t improve, we’ll be bottom three in January. A difficult window to bring players and turn it around at the best of times. Even worse if your struggling.

Some folk need a reality check. The squad is pretty much the same one that was relegated two years ago, then pissed league one last season, which suggests that most find the step up too much. Out of the players brought in, three (Gibson, McManaman & Vaughan) were part of a Sunderland side who finished bottom of the Championship, with just two home wins all season – hardly players who would strengthen any championship side!

The first objective of any promoted club is survival. If they can do that, then is the time to push on. 16th place in your first season back is a reasonable position to be in.

Never thought i’d say this, but mutty, i actually agree with you.

Well I expected somewhat more than we are getting right now and that doesn’t mean “I expect or think we have the right to be in the play offs” but I’d reasonably expect to be on a par with the team who were second best to us last season for one…..!

Despite beating them they are several points and positions better off than us ……why is expecting to be where they currently are deemed unrealistic?

The sides below us only win when they play us ;)

It’s going to be a long season with plenty ups and even more downs. Personally, I think we will survive but not by much.

Sheff Weds, Stoke, West Brom, Blackburn, Rotherham, Hull, Bristol City. All beaten, some convincingly.

A solid home record in a tough league is just not good enough.

Powell, Robinson, Dunkley, Jacobs all out injured and several returning from injury is not an excuse.

                  Cook out.

Not sure where Dunkerley would fit back in with Cook’s present tactics? Robinson is a terrible defender and so not really missed and we have won games without Powell! Jacobs is a big miss in my opinion though!

                  #174120

Dunkley would play in goal obviously.

We have won games without Jacobs too so why do we miss him but not Powell who is a far better player than he is? Or is it because Powell is the latest Wigan boo boy?

Robinson may be poor defensively but is still a better left back than any other option we have so we will clearly miss him if he isn’t there.

Put Jacobs, Powell, Robinson, Massey, Dunkley and a fully fit Grigg back in that side and we would be instantly better.

Or look it another way, take Robertson, Lovren, Salah, Firminio and Mane out the Liverpool side and see how good they are.

Individually may not be missed but put the five or six together and like the example given re. Robberpool it makes a massive difference in team understanding and especially the momentum we carried over from last season to the early part of this season.

Exactly Stu/Donny and unfortunately we can’t afford to have 2nd and 3rd choice players that are world class. We spent about £5m in the summer and brought in 7 or 8 players. They were never going to be top quality unless they were on loan, but if we did sign 1 player for £5m that was quality then we would have even less depth than we do now. It’s the club we are and I don’t see it changing too much with the new owners except we may see more of the likes of Gelhardt move up than we normally do.

We’re playing teams bigger and better than us? Are we allowed that one?
