When you play a 4-4-2 formation you should consider strikers in the starting lineup !! :silly:

Perhaps he thinks they’re not worth putting in and
And how would you know this if you don’t play them from the start ?, doesn’t a new manager mean a level playing field for all ? fresh start. There are lots of players who don’t light up the training pitch but prefer a competitive match to show their worth. Delort has had roughly 7 minutes of play under MacKay and Reira ?.
I personally think this has nothing to do with the player himself but more to do with money and bonuses/appearances etc. All will be revealed in the Jan window were at least 4-6 players will be gone and one or two unlikely faces as well.

We should stop going on about the 1-2-3 or even none upfront debate, what about the defence ?? we’ve scored in 6 in our last 8 games but failed to keep a clean sheet in only 2. Some of the goals conceded would have been avoided over at Laithwaite park on a Saturday or a Sunday
I think the manager can make a good enough judgement about players he sees day in and day out on the training pitch. And, either way, it’s his choice.

As for the paragraph after that about money and bonuses, that’s some imagination you’ve got going on there.
So his judgement on playing Espinoza is a good one ? I think your imagination is on par with Pixar

Dark time??? Just another time. Part of a club evolving. It cant always be amazing times at any club and this is one of those troughs that all clubs will go through when they are evolving. Who knows it might take us lower and at some stage we may be at Wembley and in Europe again. Wembley or Victory park is all part of watching our club and should we be at Victory Park again on a wet Tuesday night ,so be it and some of us will get the same buzz out of that as we did at Old Trafford in the Premier League. Not saying I want to see us again at Chorley but if we were there I would be with my club. Remember most of us daft buggers on here have been around a lot longer than Whelan Martinez Coyle Rosler and McKay and will still be there long after.
Heres to three points against The Millers whatever formation the Manager plays.

By definition, when something is evolving it is making gradual progress.

How, by using this definition, are Latics evolving? Winning 1 game in 16 is it? Appointing a new manager who still hasn’t a win under his belt after 4 games and has now resorted to having no recognised striker on the pitch? Possibly losing our Chairman over ‘those’ comments and a lad who couldn’t run a chippy taking over?

I said it was a dark time, I didn’t say I hadn’t seen darker and I will be there on Saturday. I’ve started to dread that team sheet though and the torture that follows.

Don’t you think that’s because he didn’t inherit any recognised strikers and he sees more striker quality and chances of a goal in the likes of McManaman and McLean than Delort, Riera and Fortune? What exactly are his options up front for Saturday?

            Head. Wall. Against. Wall.

Haven’t you realised yet that the obvious answer is to let a bunch of keyboard nerds pick the team and tactics because clearly letting someone with years of professional experience do it is a nonsense.

Exactly my sentiments Head Wall Head Wall

When have these players been given a chance to play in the way they played when we bought them. You know when we bought them because they could score goals, you know like Fortune doesn’t and that’s why we bought them?

I can’t see how having Riera and Delort playing together could be any worse, when it’s about the only thing we haven’t seen this season, yet everyone on here keeps telling me it’s wrong. Then somebody like griff starts calling people keyboard nerds (irony)

It took until the 85th minute on Saturday for Mackay to give Delort a go. Why do you think that was? He sees these players day in, day out and sees things we’re not privy to. Delort came with a label that said striker. Mackay obviously doesn’t think that he’s a particularly great striker or, given our parlous state, he’d have been on from the start or at least given a reasonable amount of time.

We really didn’t play that badly Saturday. There was lots of effort and we are missing someone that can hit the net on a regular basis. I don’t know what’s going to happen in January regarding getting a striker but it was tough enough attracting players when we were in the big boys’ league let alone second bottom of the Championship.

You sometimes don’t have to look too far to kill an argument. Unless Mr Mackay is spinning a yarn.

If you can’t be bothered looking as far a the end of your nose I’ll copy and paste the bit in particular, which I’m crowing about.

“Riera, Delort and Waghorn have just come back from injury (Waghorn still isn’t fit), but they will deffo feature, Delort especially has impressed this week.”

Add to this, I know for a fact Delort has been scoring in the reserves, which is all he can do at this present time. Oh and he’s been playing with Riera.

How can it not be worth a try? I’ve read somewhere you say “we have no proven goalscorer” or “we have no recognised striker”. I would argue strongly that we do, if they’re allowed to be.

Who are our scouts? We haven’t had a regular goal scoring striker since Hugo Rodallega. However even he wasn’t particularly prolific but still found the net on a more regular basis than our present lot. Troy Deeney (Walsall) Danny Ings and Charlie Austin (non league clubs) There’s a couple of young lads in the Development and under-18 squads scoring goals for fun.Surely in giving them a run we would have nowt to lose given our present perilous position.

Possibly because Watford had just taken the lead and Malky was trying to rescue the game. He was probably happy enough with a draw but it didn’t work out for him.

But not enough to get a starting place in a team with no strikers. Not enough to even get twenty minutes. You don’t have to read between too many lines to kill an argument.

I disagree. Before Watford scored it could’ve gone either way. There was no way we were playing for a draw. And we had a striker on the bench all the while. That’s either incredibly poor management or someone trying to make the most of a poorly stocked toolbox, nothing in between.

What I’m trying to say is he probably had no thought of putting Delort on but once they scored so late it was his only option.
