I know who some of the people are who have posted on that thread, and they most certainly would not bring fear to your average Serbian or Turkish football ultra’s face.

Good job it isn’t about violence then.[/quote]
Yes Egg, I am aware of that, and that’s the whole point of my (alcohol influenced) post.

The term ‘Ultras’ has been coined over the years to describe some of Europe’s worst football hooligans, and a group of Wigan Rugby League supporters have heard this phrase, decided they like it, and have used it to describe their band of supporters. They even had a skull motif on their old logo – which is considered a design classic by the nutters of eastern Europe and Turkey – so why not go the whole-hog and have a couple of crossed flick knives on there while they’re at it?

They’ve now clearly realised their terminology mishap, and have changed the name to that of a Celtic clan who settled in northern England. The irony in that particular choice is that every attempt by this northern English game to ‘settle’ in Celtic lands has resulted in abject failure.

In fact, there are few names they could have chosen that are less appropriate, although my suggestions of The Wigan Globetrotters or a parody of West Ham’s ICF – the TPEF (the Trans-Pennine Express Firm) would come close.

So let me get this straight :

They sing songs nicked from football.
Put up flags–idea nicked from football.
They play a game nicked from football, when a fat lad sat on the ball.
They wear replica shirts, talk about local derbies, and use football terminology ( goals, offsides, touchlines etc )
Now they call themselves Ultras, another term nicked from football.
They even call their game football and have it in their name.

Sounds to me like they just want to be football fans & support a football club.

It’s just a shame that there was never a football club in their home town for them to support over the years in order to complete the authentic football experience they are clearly so pining for.

    Whats that-there was ?
& there always has been ?
& most of them don’t support that football club even when it desperately needed their support ?
& many of them actually hate it & laughed when it nearly went bust & chose instead to support another football team from a random city that they can’t get tickets for from their armchair ?

Anyone would think they were a bunch of clueless hypocrites brainwashed by a camp man called Maurice ?

    :?

Out of interest and purely to even things out, what is the smallest crowd to have attended a competive sporting fixture at the DW/JJB?

              #62844

To be fair you would have to compare like with like, compare our lowest premier league attendance with the chubbies lowest superleague attendance. I think we all know who wins that one.

Or if it makes you feel better just take our lowest 2nd division attendance!
