Just gauging you and to see if you have any comments to make on an article that deals with the crowd issue. You clearly haven’t, and therefore I’d deduce from that that you’re thick.

        #63479

so….somebody who doesnt find an article ‘intersting’ about a team and sport that doesnt really matter to them is thick ?

have you asked piers morgan or jeremey paxman for his opinion on the article ?

No, not at all, but considering it addresses the issue of small crowds, I thought you might find it relevant to your argument. Clearly not, and as it would have meant putting a bit of thought into one of your posts, how silly was I to think otherwise?

Why Piers Morgan and Jeremy Paxman? Do you they watch the rugby as well?

We just choose not to fill the stadium when the show boating cheats come along.

Bottom line is that Thugby would have WWF protection legislation passed to preserve it, as there are that few people who watch and care about it.

The egg chasers enriched their dull pointless existence by lording it over the football club for decades. That is one reason why we hate them.

But bottom line is, you have a choice to watch egg chasing which the majority of the world decided against. Your not the sort of people I want to associate with in life.

        next.

That’s a very good article! There’s no doubting the difficulties faced by a young football club in the backyard of some of the biggest and most famous football teams in the world.

Most kids grow up and take an interest in football but a large number probably aren’t aware of teams outside of the Premier League unless they have parents or family who support those clubs. Most will start supporting United, City, Liverpool etc at a very young age and stick with it. In fact at that age most kids will pick the side that keeps winning so that they can boast; it’s only natural.
Every Latics fan I know grew up supporting another club (mostly Liverpool or Man Utd) and then gradually learnt the error of their ways. They even had a period of supporting 2 sides because one was in the Premier League and Wigan weren’t. It’s not an accusation that Latics fans aren’t true supporters or like other teams, more that some fans rightly decided that they should support their home town club.

The fact that Latics rose so quickly to the biggest league in the world means that it’s hard to achieve such a large growth in popularity in such a short space of time. Even if Latics go down this year (I have a good feeling they won’t) the quick growth in popularity means that in the future more children will be born to Wigan Athletic supporting families and attendances have a good chance of becoming respectable. I say respectable, it’s perhaps the wrong word. Bolton don’t get much bigger crowds yet the town is much larger than Wigan. Wigan’s crowds are respectable. Out of quite a small town there is only going to be a limited number of people who would actually go and watch football, or any sport.

Wigan Athletic’s crowds are good considering the size of the town and sniping about crowds from both rugby and football fans makes little sense. Both teams seem to have roughly the same number of home supporters, which naturally fluctuates depending on who the opposition is.

Not that it’s even a massive issue. I’m pretty sure there will be many on here who would turn up to watch Latics even if they were the only ones there and had to turn up on a windy, rainy, cold winters day in a shed of a ground and walk ten miles just to get there. Who, how or why people support a different club or like a different sport is irrelevant, all that should matter is how you support your own club.

There’s not a lot to disagree with in that post Mr Eye.

You are correct in that assumption but the feeling on the other side is that the so called change of allegience from Man U fans ,Liverpool and other clubs that joined the bandwagon in the first couple of seasons in the Prem as already taken place the core of the fanbase now is as you see and that was brought about in the late eighties with the start of the junior latics many of those are now in the late twenties bringing up future latics fans so the omens look good in my opinion :D :D

There must also be a number like myself.

I supported Liverpool all my formativ eyears – not bandwagon jumping – I was born and raised in Liverpool.

In 1976 we moved out here because houses were a lot cheaper. When my son wanted to go and watch football I brought him to Latics – you couldn’t take a 7-year-old onto the Kop.

And over time my interest in Liverpool waned and in Latics grew. As someone else said there was a time when I supported both, as they lived in different universes.

But now – the Liverpool I supported is long dead, and Latics are my home team and in my blood.
