stephen gage was an interim , nobody knew or could understand his reasons for buying the club,or any affinity with the club he may have had.
I was told a story at that time that may or may not have been true, but it came from a friend/associate of kenyon himself who was very bitter over, what he thought was a swindle.
The story goes a wealthy investor wanted the club but did want kenyon to know so the price would not go up.
Gage was a distant contact of the prospective buyer and was used to conclude the purchase at a very cheap price, gage was a wealthy business man but no mega rich investor, within six months or so the club was sold on and gage disapeared into the distance, kenyon basically wanted out at any cost and sold to gage, but when he found out who the new owner was he was outraged.and we all know who that new owner turned out to be.

Jeff Wright? Really?
Did you ever see him play?7 September 2009 at 3:01 am #8188That’s the seocnd time Jeff Wright’s been dissed here – I always thought he was a good ‘un; cultured sort, typical Pop Side whipping boy. See also: Jason Koumas. Anyway, here’s my XI.
GK Guiseppe Palladino (is it wrong to base this on seven performances?)
FB John McMahon (inexplicably the first name on Larry Lloyd’s team sheet every week; must’ve admired his ‘tache)
FB Steve McAdam (so slow you could see his brain ticking over wondering which mistake to make next. Scored a cracking own goal)
CB Greg Strong (that hair; that dream move to Bolton)
CB Fitz Hall (good nickname, though, “One Size”
LW Dave McMullen (simply too cocky keeping the ball up before missing that penalty against Crewe)
CM Graham Houston (not helped by arriving from Knob End)
CM Alan McLoughlin (the only cheer of the night away at Peterborough was when he got substituted)
RW Ian Griffifths (will forever suffer comparisons with Brian Griffiths. In some households)
CF Pat Gavin
CF Neil Morton (those two pick themselves)Subs/ Peter Thorne (world-beater everywhere else, useless for us), Darius Adamchuk, Tony Kelly when he came back, Wayne Biggins (redeemed slightly when he dropped into midfield), Tony Dinning, Leigh Jenkinson (the stepover!)
Manager: Kenny Swain, Assistant: John Benson
7 September 2009 at 3:22 am #8189Lee Ashcroft, Jeff Peron, Terry Cooke, Alan McLoughlin, Brian McLaughlin. Good God they were sh*te.

Yes
and
Yes.[/quote]I don’t really know on what you are basing your opinion. Jeff Wright was a very good footballer, probably one of the best passers, of his time, ever to play for Wigan Athletic. The fact that he wasn’t considered aggressive enough and didn’t get “stuck in” clouded many people’s judgement of him. I think if he was playing in today’s game with its less physical demands people would view him differently.

And it looks as if Jordi Gomez is already going the same way.
