What about Paul Daglish?
After seeing his football skills im very surprised Kennys never asked for a DNA test!
7 September 2009 at 3:24 pm #8205He was one that fell into the category of “looked good when we had him on loan then turned pot”.
Surely, though, along with Neill Rimmer, Latics’ indiest-looking player.
7 September 2009 at 3:27 pm #8207Me in midfield-bombing forward!
7 September 2009 at 3:36 pm #8208Me in midfield-bombing forward!Well, at least to the edge of the centre circle :)
7 September 2009 at 3:44 pm #8209I don’t think the surface has been scratched yet.
However, I am staying positive at the moment, so I will not be adding the likes of Steve Cooper, Stehen Appleton and Wayne Entwistle to your negative thread.7 September 2009 at 4:17 pm #8210I’m trying to not post on here, but I feel I have to reply to the mention of the late Steve Cooper.
He joined us on loan. Was it from Tranmere?
I actually got to know him a bit, as he lived in Wigan and came along to take my Sunday league teams training. My abiding memory is of a seemingly nice bloke, strong Brummie accent, and as a professional footballer, someone who wasn’t afraid to have a ‘kick about’ with us kids. In fact, I remember playing a one-two with him and scoring. Can’t see many of our current side turning up to coach kids like that, I mean, where would they park their posh motor?
He only played a few games for us, on loan. Did he score on his debut at Burnden Park in a 2-1 defeat? (or was it Gary Powell?)
I was genuinely sad to hear he’d passed away suddenly, in his sleep, a couple of years ago. He was only 39, married with a family. Terrible that.
7 September 2009 at 4:48 pm #8213I don’t really know on what you are basing your opinion. Jeff Wright was a very good footballer, probably one of the best passers, of his time, ever to play for Wigan Athletic. The fact that he wasn’t considered aggressive enough and didn’t get “stuck in” clouded many people’s judgement of him. I think if he was playing in today’s game with its less physical demands people would view him differently.
Agreed. Wright seems to get the same treatment that Michael O’Neill always got. And it looks as if Jordi Gomez is already going the same way.[/quote]
Oneil was shite so cant see your point7 September 2009 at 5:20 pm #8215People said Paul Rogers was crap…………
Until he scored that goal at Wembley.
Then out came comments like “He’s underrated, Rogers. Does a lot of work that gets unnoticed”.
7 September 2009 at 5:21 pm #8217He was and he did
7 September 2009 at 5:26 pm #8218Oneil was whale so cant see your pointJust your opinion, son.
I happen to disagree.
Don’t make me right, don’t make you right.
7 September 2009 at 5:34 pm #8219He was and he didI agree.
That moment at Wembley in ’99 was fantastic. Fairytale stuff, 94th minute, and all that.

I wasn’t aware that he had passed away. Sorry if I have offended anyone.
8 September 2009 at 1:27 pm #8266Horc, no mate, you didn’t offend anybody.
He seemed an alright bloke, when I knew him. I recall him coming to Springfield Park later, when he was with Peterborough (Was it?) and he got sent off for constantly berating the referee! However the first time I ever saw Steve Cooper was when he scored a belting overhead kick at the Shevington End, for Barnsley in a league cup match, circa 88-89.
I think when he joined us, it was probably more to the fact that our management at the time probably got wind that he lived in Wigan (Hawkley Hall, I believe) more than anything.
Yeah, he died a couple of years ago at the terribly early age of 39. Died peacefully in his sleep. The best way to go, I suppose. RIP.
8 September 2009 at 4:32 pm #8307Remember a midfielder called Lee Rogerson (I think it was that anyway!)
Also Darren Boughoy (don’t think i’ve spelt that correctly) he was Ray Woods right wing replacement and scored 2 in 2 games and never played for us again!8 September 2009 at 4:43 pm #8311Im going to be contreversial seeing as he was a friend but what about Andy Pilling?
Who was the keeper we got from celtic with such promise but had top retire with a neck injury?
