Always thought he was a tryer. The best of a bad bunch.

Recall him ‘scoring’ a goal at Bury on that god awful pitch, wheeling away to celebrate, and the ball sticking in the mud on the goal-line.

                  Typical Gigg Lane.

“Typical Gigg Lane” aka The Gigg Sty.

Was it the muddiest pitch ever?

More often than not, they did us there. They had that podgy winger, Tony Rigby (Still playing as of recently, in Ormskirk Sunday League, by the way!) and Mark Carter up front. Scored a fair few that Carter. Story as it that when we went to Runcorn for Don Page, we had a choice between Don Page and Mark Carter, and we went for Don.

I do recall us hammering them 4-1 though, at Gigg Lane, circa 1991. I remember Joe Parkinson scored a 25 yarder in front of us.

Bury were robbing gets as well. We turned up one year, and were told that the terrace was closed so we’d all have to go in the stand. This was circa 1994, and I think we were all peeved at having to pay £12 (I think) as it was steep for the time. And we were even more annoyed when we got in and saw that they’d given the so called ‘away’ terrace to the home fans, with literally 3 or 4 blokes stood on it. Simply a ploy to rip us off. And if I remember rightly, we then got stuffed, that day. We had that Burgundy and Gold ‘Matchwinner’ Roma-style kit on. I think Ian Stevens did the damage for them that day. Him and a black fella in midfield called Ronnie Mauge. (remember them?)

                      That pitch was always god-awful.

Andy Saville. I’ve seen milk turn quicker.

In no way, was Andy Saville our worst ever striker.

                        I’m thinking:

                        Wayne Entwistle-Past it.
Peter Thorne- Couldn’t hit a cows arse with a banjo, for us.
Neil Morton- span that much, he churned the pitch up.
Pat Gavin- Capable of sublime skills…..once every 26 games.
Winston White- Gave up a TV Role as ‘Benson’ to sign for us. ***
Drewe Broughton- He’s STILL playing. And STILL ‘Barry White’.
Neil Woods- Signed on loan from Grimsby, injured before he played.

***Not strictly true. (Benson was an 80’s U.S. tv show about a butler)

Talking of robbing gets, the proper price for admission to the away seating at Blackpool is £28 (The price was above the turnstile like in the old days).
Its temporary seating with no cover ffs.
I thought the £10 we paid was pushing it a bit.

I noticed that Horc. Feck me it was even £21 for a wheelchair and carer. (10 for chair, 11 for carer)

Back to worst players – How about Dave Bessant in goal? Magic in his time but it took him that long to get down to the floor when he played that one game against Donny it was shocking.
