’…and last time we beat Man city we got relegated.’
No we didn’t
Your knowledge is greater than mine. But I do remember that we beat City in the Cup again the following year before we met Arsenal
Bang on there for me vat we didn’t take our chances in the first half and they upped their game in the second half. Glory hunters piss me right off, all 5,000 of um. Why can’t they turn up for league games and get a good atmosphere going, suppose they’ll all be back come may anyway concentrate on the league, up the tics“Glory hunters piss you off”? Well, all Wigan fans don’t live in Wigan and are unable to go to every home game. So are we not supporters?
Think of the TV revenue, a near capacity crowd, think like a business man!
All the neutrals sat in the bar in Corellejo said we were the better team. The first half in particular we looked like the premier league team, bossed possession and created a few good chances. A jammy goal to give them the lead the player just whacked it and it just missed the goalie and player stood on line. No for me and many others we gave has good as we got over 90 mins, the 2-0 scoreline flattered them even with the penalty miss. Well done boys, did us proud.“The first half in particular we looked like the premier league team”
Down here in a snowy Midlands pub the football pundit behind the bar said to me “If you didn’t know then you couldn’t figure out who the Premier League team was.”
That was to me a huge compliment for Wigan, so let’s now concentrate on promotion. Please.
BTW Nuneaton and Lawrie – Coventry here. (Looking forward to getting away)!!Only 10 miles away, maybe we should meet up at the next Sky Blues v Latics match?
Are you back in the NW now Warwick? I couldn’t get away from Nuneaton quick enough although it took me over 20 years. Cant beat the Red Rose country.I agree, Lancashire was where my genes were manufactured, and Nuneaton is a sh*t hole but my 2 sons were born here in Warwick and my first grandchild also. Looks like I’m here until I die, not a problem, Warwick is a nice town.

I would say proudly that nobody has ever matched our story. From non league to Europe, league cup final and what is sometimes missed is that we actually went 2 seasons without losing an F A cup game. Losing on penalties in the semi is hardly being beat and as a championship club. Obviously the massive clubs are successful and win more but non of them have done it from where we started from. The biggest little club in the world is simply the greatest story ever told.Proud as can be.
I have spent the majority of my life supporting Wigan in the Northern Premier League and the lower Divisions of the FA. My dad first dragged me to Springfield Park when I was about 7 and I wish he could hear me in heaven telling him what achievements we made since. I doubt that he would believe me. We have respect throughout all of the UK now, we have shown that beating City in the final was not a fluke it was a result of sheer tenacity! We are not just a club to be reckoned with but a club and its fans who have hunger for more.
BTW Nuneaton, Warwick here :)
I would say it was the biggest win in my lifetime certainly but it won’t pay the bills.
We need to be playing Championship football next season especially with some of the clubs in and around the bottom 3 in that league. Not going up this season could mean we stay in this league for a couple of years and we can’t afford to do that.
We’ll never know, but winning the FA Cup could have been the very thing that made the difference when attracting new owners. When there’s 8k on at the DW in League One it may not feel that way, but to have any chance of attracting the kind of investment needed to push on, we needed a story and history that differentiated us from so many identikit clubs. Without said investment, there’s little chance we could progress much beyond being one of those clubs who yoyo between the Championship and League One.
That may still be our destiny with the new owners, in which case nights like Monday should be treasured even more. Few clubs have experienced anything like our story.
You said it! “Few clubs have experienced anything like our story.”
Your words iterate my comment “We are on the map”No matter what happens we are on the map, even if we don’t win the cup or fail to get promoted, I am still proud to say “I am from Wigan.”
Well I got what I wanted, a City player sent off! But all credit our lads who defended superbly and played their socks off.
Anyone willing to predict the score?
On paper we should be beaten by about 12 – 0, especially after Monday nights results. But both clubs have points to prove after our last two Cup meetings. I would like to think that City do not appreciate the passion, determination and tenacity of Wigan and our supporters.
I hope for a bit of luck ie a Wigan penalty and a City player sent off that turns the game our way (it happens)!
And on that basis I predict a 2 – 2 draw.
Let’s hope your predictions are better than your memories.
Did we not beat them in the final and the following year in the semi-final?
If you are on about City, yes we beat them in the final ( Every man and his dog knows that! ) but it was Arsenal who beat us in the semi final the following season! I think you might be losing touch with your mind!
Well I am 64 and quite possibly in the early stages of Alzheimers, so please be gentle with me. I still have vivid memories of Springfield Park.
And so, predictions please. If you play Sky Super 6 you get the idea. Give yourself 5 points for guessing the correct score, 2 for guessing the right result. The winner gets the accolade of sweet FA.
6 nil with City 3 up at half time.Aguero to get a hat trick.
De Bruyne and Sterling to score.
Ps is this LawrieA a snooping manc?
Laughs  Born in Standish in 1954, my dad dragged me to Springfield Park almost before I could walk.
