The same reason some would follow other football clubs. Parents influence. If a guy moves from St Helens/Warrington to Wigan will he bring his son up as a Wigan fan? No he won’t.

Even so, its a well known fact that born and bred Wigan football fans support other football clubs (well they watch em on TV and wear the shirts)
But for the life of me i can’t think of any born and bred Wiganers that support other rugby league teams, why would they when they can follow a big fish in a small pond?
Actually i know a bloke (a real rugby league fan and Worriers supporter) that goes to watch lower league sides play on Sunday’s around the North West he doesn’t support them he just loves to watch RL.

Eggy plenty to say on this subject but deliberately swerving the issue on the paltry turn out in the Super 8s semi final played at DW stadium 10,013 wasnt it and how many of those came down from Hull?

Do u honestly believe that the latics have more support in wigan than the rugby? If you do you are deluded. Perhaps more loyal fans yes but that’s it! The rugby will always be a bigger pull to the majority of the town when in a final!Not doing too bad Mambo seeing you said we shouldnt be comparing crowds!

The Super 8’s semi final at the DW stadium….Yes the DW stadium last week had a piss poor crowd on, not 200 miles away at Wembley, what happened to the loyal fans last week?
I’ll tell you one thing if the 2014 FA Cup semi final against Arsenal was played at the DW it would have been packed out, no problem!

Grand final 22 miles away……Royal Oak etc heaving with cherry and white super fans…….dancing around in a jubilant frenzy…..At least it’s slightly more competitive than the perm any 2 from 3 challenge cup winning pantomime years,but unreal to see so many staying away from the final……dollopers!!!Yep Fox and Goose the same and no doubt dozens of other boozers in and around Wigan. Well I don’t bloody well believe it. The eggs win the end of season knock out. Not really fair on Warrington as Wiggin play on a football ground and the end of season knock out was played on a football ground.
England did bring a little cheer though slaughtering mighty Malta 2-0. Brilliant victory considering Malta’s side consisted of a couple of donkey farmers, two bird trappers, four goat herders and a self employed sun bed restorer. That compared to poor England who only had forty or fifty multi millionaire Rolex wearing, Porsche driving full time professional playboys to choose from. Fab job Gareth.
All this going on and the big one to look forward to on Satdy against Burton Albion. Rumours are we are going for it and Gary is tinkering with a 5-5-0 and looking to have more possession more sideways and backwards passes but even less shots on target. Sounds just what everyone loves these days. The way forward. Burton players are preparing for Gary’s onslaught by bringing sleeping bags and knitting to sleep in and entertain themselves whilst combating this new improved approach.
