He’s achieved his goal which is L1 football next year but he’s also managed to turn us into a bullet proof defensive outfit as well conceding only 2 goals in our last 6 games.
I think we might be in for a few surprises as to who leaves and who stays and who he offers new contracts to in the summer.
There was a social media post (slip of the tongue) regarding Ledson from Preston who’s turned down a new contract at Preston and a link with a forward but speculation will be rife throughout the summer.
Danson needs to back Lowe, no one’s saying go mad go stupid but if we’re going to push for minimum top 6 we need signings.
Lets not forget we’ve 2 ball playing midfielders due back next season so priority must be a forward. It’s as clear as day we need someone in.
Now the $10 million dollar question, have we turned Taylor into a player we cannot afford??. I’m sure he will have raised a few eyebrows from a few Championship clubs but as an Andy Lidell type player playing off a forward he’s a must buy for us.
When Danson took over he had the awful job of funding a big wage for the first 12 months till the window released them all.
That summer should have been were we built a side allowing Maloney to bring in a few 1/2 decent experienced players and integrate the younger lads into a side
This never happened and that’s were the problems started for Maloney.Roll on soon to be year 3, new manager, and a summer transfer window nearly upon us. 15 players contracts or loans all up what will happen ?.
Well we can either go one of two ways:-
Bring in 3 or 4 experienced players and bring our own young lads up to the table
Or
Fill the squad up with unknown u20 lads on the cheap who’ve never played a competitive league football match and click our heels 3 times while wishing for promotion. At the end of the day the choice lies solely in the hands of the owners, slight risk on a few decent experienced players or cheap n cheerful and give someone else’s youth the experience
I spoke with a couple of Preston fans I know and I asked them about Lowe.
They kinda didn’t slate him nor praise him.
They said, he’ll get you results but at Preston he blew hot and cold but they said one thing“It won’t look pretty, alot of back forth left and right football”.
They both sat on the fence with Lowe saying, when he left they were unhappy about his departure but weren’t overly disappointed.
I keep saying it, I’ll hold judgement when were in 2026 and after a couple of transfer windows and when “his” players and style are all on show.
Lowe has to be given funds and time because this L1 is going to get super hard next year when a possible Hull Cardiff Luton Derby Plymouth come downI understand we’ve also had 2 ball playing midfielders for a large chunk of the season missing then Chambers and Goodwin (who never got going) but that’s were the owner should now step in.
Defence ?, yep we’ve sorted that and look solid. Robinson’s come in and put many doubters in check but we desperately need a forward.
There’s half a dozen who’s contracts are up who Lowe needs to make big decisions on, Robinson, S.Smith S.Sessegnon, McHugh, McManaman, Silko Thomas, then the burning question,
Have we made Taylor into the player we now cannot afford ??.There’s a tough tough window coming Lowes way, I just hope we don’t Paul Cook it and load up with a sh*toad of over 30 journeymen who are looking for their final 2 year payday
If Maloney had of been in charge we’d have lost Saturday. And why?, he would have made 5 subs before 60 minutes totally upsetting the whole balance of the side.
Lowe made one all game keeping the momentum going and not that he was always on the players backs demanding that bit extra.
My view is, if a player put his hands on his hips under Maloney, Maloney would sofely take then off, were as Lowe demands effort and concentration. For me Mellish needs to be in the middle every week. He stood up to all the intimation and bullying tactics all day and Asamoah Jr will get better and better, he reminds me ABIT like Valencia raw but blistering pace something we’ve lacked in the past few years.
We didn’t miss S.Smith or Norburn tbh so for me, as long as Lowes given some coin in the summer and him at the helm demanding we will be ok
I’m not quite sure how Owen Dale’s starting every game under Lowe, he couldn’t go past me, can’t tackle can’t defend. If Lowe signs him then he’s watching the game through googly specs eyeballs on springs because Dale offers zilch he’s the weakest link.
As I previously pointed out, if you can’t get into an Oxford side you should have heard a tiny tinkling of a warning bell before signing him on loan.
My point been that, how the hell could Maloney scouted him along with Goodwin and a good few others before signing considering they weren’t playing for their respective clubs before we signed them.
Maloney no doubt had no money no say when it comes to signings and he’s dropped a suttle hint this might be true in a recent interview after his sacking that everything’s not so rosey in the Latics garden, far from it.
I just hope Lowe has been given concrete set in stone assurances that funds will be made available in the summer because if he doesn’t get given then we will be looking at the 2025-2026 been our Groundhog Season, loans and unknowns that aren’t even minimum L1 level.
It makes you wonder whether the Championship is actually Danson’s target or if he’s happy to spend zero and hover here for the foreseeable future till were sold “again”
Tonight is super important, I’d go as far as saying it could define the season outcome.
A win will make it very hard for other sides to claw us back.
Let’s not say to the players “Take it game by game”, right now we don’t need that sh*t, whats needed to be said is tonight is a must win game.We also have Burton & Shrewsbury all be it away which I personally think is better actually better for us
1 win 1 draw will see us right and let’s face it, we are playing 21st & 24th in the league so.
Lowe has probably the hardest task since Martinez took over and was told to clear the decks but Lowes success won’t be determined by his ability it will be defined by the colour of Danson’s money.
We need better players, players with prospects to sell on and a few older decent players to gel it.I don’t think Lowes thought this one out. Now he’s had a few weeks to assess the task at hand I bet his first words were
W.T.F?
Tonight is super important, a win will make it very hard for others to pin us back.
Let’s not say “Take it game by game” we don’t need that sh*t, what we need is to target games like the Exeter, Burton & Shrewsbury all be it away which I personally think is better for us1 win 1 draw will see us right and let’s face it, we’re playing 21st & 24th in the league so . . . but tonight is huge
The first thing I noticed with Lowe is a difference of opinion. Take Sibbick, he was one of the first on the team sheet along with Mellish but Lowe seems to have frozen the pair out.
Now I’m not slating Lowe I just saying that both managers see or prefer a different style/type of player.
Lowe has zero chance with this current set of players. I’m pretty much sure most weren’t even Maloney’s choices.
My gripe is this season after the mass exodus of the season before that we should have been the building season but it’s more like a builder who demolishes a property then sits on the land.
This season gone was all about spending nothing, on the cheap, and the club picking the players. I mean come on, seriously, how the fook could Maloney scout or know anything about his signings when a fair few were kids with little league experience.
For me last season was a wasted season, we’ve built fook all bar we dumped a manager who got no support.
Yes Maloney had his faults I never truly thought he is managerial tackle but that doesn’t mean I didn’t want him to succeed he a Latics legend for Christ sake.
Maloney’s gone now so it’s down to Lowe to make it work but all’s I can say is, if Danson decides to spend nothing then we’ll be going through managers as fast as a pack of 24 Senokot after a madras.
Lowe needs backing or this season will mirror itself on to next season were Lowe survives like Maloney on kids on loan and players playing out their depth.
A win away at Exeter could put the toilet paper away till next season. A win will put us 9 clear of Burton with 6 to go and 12 and 13 points in front of Crawley and Cambridge and a game in hand on the pair. Then, don’t lose at Burton I honestly think we’ll then be safe.
The Exeter game could be the defining turning point in our dour season. I just hope the manager points this out to the players how important it is because “Take it game by game” is utter utter bollox because at this stage of the season it’s about targeting particular winnable games.
We stand a far better chance beating an Exeter than a Wrexham who only need a couple of wins to go up.
theres one huge problem, we don’t have a fit forward.i cannot believe that a football club has no fit forwards not even a kid from youth.
This has to be the worse squad I’ve seen in 25 years bar none.
Lose at Exeter and Burton then it puts Burton within 3. I just hope Lowe can pull the rabbit out the hat because I was lost as to what his tactics were against Orient, totally lost
Please sort the message board out, it’s doing the old cover up can’t see what your typing
Cze?, I think he has it in his locker to become a v.g. forward. He’s only 21 and yeah he did get bussled around by the defenders but he’s not filled out yet between 21 and 25 his body shape will change, remember Lang ?.
But for me hitting it long to Cze as a hold up man? Jesus wept, that’s 1million percent NOT his game.
I had one guy up the top from me shouting ffs be stronger Cze!! When Cze went upsides for a ball with an experienced defender.Christ I’m thinking cut him some slack. He’d prefer it passed to his left or right something to run on to.
Cze’s game is for me has 2 components
Playing off the shoulder of the last man and getting into the box at just the right time.
To me he looks like he has that natural ability to do both and never rushes or panic’s.What he needs is, a midfielder who can find him and Taylor to play second fiddle because Taylor isn’t a true goal scoring forward.
I personally think we’ve a rough cut diamond who with time will score us goals for fun in L1 then move on for big bucks.
Once he fills out over the next 12-18months then he’ll cause defenders no end of problems
I thought against Barnsley there was much more intensity in our play, abit more urgency. I heard a few Cze haters already sharpening their hatchets which I find disgusting.
Cze reminds me so much of Lang we he first got into the side, too young too soon. The lads got an awful lot of growing and learning to do but personally I think he will turn out be a huge hit for us if given the minutes to grow.
Had Taylor squared a simple ball to him we could have possibly won that game so we need to be patient. But for me the key is our midfield, we’ve no ball player and it showed.
Norburn S.Smith and Darcy simply doesn’t work their all different but their all doing the same job. I’d lob Payne in 100%.
It’s simple to see, we’re like a HGV lorry, were governed. We had 4-5 players on the pitch yesterday who are playing at their highest possible level.
Now I’m not calling or slating that, that’s football. Footballs about levels and these players are at their maximum level wise and can’t kick on.I’m not sure Lowe can improve the quality of the individual player/s but effort wise on and off the ball we looked like we wanted it more and no one will be able to hide behind friendships like when Maloney was here as Lowe looks and sounds like a guy who won’t hold any punches.
Stroll on Tuesday, I just hope we can put a dagger into their promotion hopes. 1-0 will do but 4-0 would be nicer.
Settle down pal, your getting a manager rush, I won’t hold judgement till at least Christmas when he’s brought in a few of his own and he’s about 20+ games under his belt.
He talks well and he’s instantly bought into the ethos of the club like a duck to water but he did the same at Preston.
Like I say, I personally think he’s a good fit for the club. If he does struggle it won’t be his fault, it will be the lack of financial support.
Good luck Lowe were all behind youIt’s all about Lowe scrapping over the line with an inherited squad, a squad I’m sure at least 10 will be gone.
If Lowe can turn us around with the current squad he’s a genius. I’m glad the club decided to act before the season was over, at least it gives him a chance to assess what he needs to do in the summer.
His biggest challenge is goals
