Those who think Danson should whip open the checkbook and start buying a squad need a severe head wobbling session, that’s exactly how we got into this mess.
We need to operate within a structured budget, watch what we spend on players and what we spend on wages. Don’t forget if you buy a player say for £250,000+ that player will want unsustainable wages to match.

We have to be cute finding young lads and released pro’s. I personally feel flooding a side with loans doesn’t allow you build a side and I’d sooner bring our own through.

Like I said before, I’m just so made up I can still go watching football in Wigan but what’s currently been served up doesn’t taste very good. Hopefully Maloney can have decent summer window clearout the big earners and freshen it all up.
If I was Maloney I’d beg Danson to break the bank for Chambers, it’s money in the bank in a year or two.
Just look at Robinson and I think Chambers is far better at a similar age

The 2nd administration was as close at it gets going to the wall. I would say from that position and with the transfer embargo (whether we buy players or not it’s there) I would say 2 seasons to put the mess right and the 3rd season we should have the correct squad to challenge for promotion.

I’m only going to judge Maloney from the takeover (this season) which was all about bringing players in on the supercheap due to a number of players who are currently on daft money.

We just needed players / bodies in the changing room so the squads probably not the players Maloney wanted and certain players don’t compliment others.

There was also the huge wage bill factor that I’m sure prevented the manager from hiring that better class of player this Jan.

        Season 2
This will be about building “his squad” a fair few will no doubt be leaving or offered heavily reduced wages so we’ll be back to the usual 12-14 in and lots leaving.

Then in season 2 he’ll have 2 windows to tweak it. If we happen to get up next season? Brucie Bonus, brilliant but I think season 2 will be basically setting us up for a season 3 push.

Season 3 ?, no excuses what so ever, whoever’s in charge should have a decent well balanced squad to lead the way to promotion.

My criticism is the slow tippy tappy belt n braces safety first football that’s cost us against the majority of teams fighting to stay up.
        What I see is,
These teams come here to counter attack. Playing it along our back 4 does not draw opposition players out to expand the space and get in behind with 40yard Hughes hail Mary’s to the left.
Opposing sides love this so they sit deep and let us come to the half way line. This congests everything and stops us in our tracks with so many players in their half were not able to pass through them were all about playing it out wide.

I think this is why so many lower clubs get something when playing us. They sit deep invite us knowing we prefer opening the game up then the counter us.
The better sides come at us chasing the back line down and the game then opens up for us.

        Next season building job
        Season25-26 no excuses

When you say “hand in his pocket” I agree and disagree.
Yes we need that bit of quality for me a forward but we have to be ultra careful with our spending due to our history of overspending.
I even remember the Steve Bruce days who put players the likes of Sibierski Melchiot Bramble on astronomical top 10 Prem club wages and eventually Martinez was given the job to clear the huge unsustainable wage bill down.

We can’t keep relying on owners and their wallet because when at the end of the day when it dries up or clipped shut were back in the same boat. I mean, how many more Whelans and Danson’s are out there who’s prepared to plough money in with zero chance of a return ?.

We have to recruit and recruit well basically cherry pick youth players from our big 4 neighbors.

Looking back, we’ve picked up tonnes of young lads who’ve done brilliant then moved on for decent money the likes of McManaman and Baines and even Hughes falls into that bracket I think it’s what we have to resurrect and super quick.

We need a Chief Executive and a team of scouts paid to find potential young lads. I understand not every young lad will make it, granted but for me it’s our only option.

As I stated before, I’d sooner gamble on a youth set up than a stupid 3 year £10k a week £1.5-£2million player deal.

What I saw was a side hell bent on getting it wide to Humphrys and J.Smith who both struggled and when they did get a ball in on the rare occasion there was no one in there to finish it off.

We’ve a disjointed midfield not playing together and rarely played as a midfield unit. And worse when out of possession struggle to win it back especially Assguard and M.Smith who couldn’t tackle me nan. but the main one massive issue we have is :-

We do not have a forward, period,

We have no threat what so ever up front. We need that one guy who can get you a goal out of nothing, a handful. Kelman offered little against Burton and Magennis, well say no more on him, when he comes on it’s like going down to 10 men.

On the very few occasions we tried to 1-2 it through the middle Burton were left flat footed and I thought wow were mixing it up but Maloney prefers the width route and it wasn’t long before normal play resumed and we started pinging it out wide.

Thing is if the opposition double up on our wingers/widemen were fcuked cause our players are simply not good enough so the ball comes back to the defense and the slow build up starts again. This happens far to often.

It’s like Maloney’s waiting for the opposition to part like Moses and the Read sea and if they don’t go back, groundhog day football.

Crossing from wide is great that’s if you have men in the box but when we did get the ball in most of the time the ball fizzes through a host of defenders box with no one in there.

Look I’d love him the stay and what he’s done with limited resources is nothing short of a miracle but I’m not loving what I’m currently seeing, not one bit.

I left with 10 minutes to go something I rarely rarely do and even if we had of hit a 94th minute winner I wouldn’t have cared one iota as it wouldn’t have made up for the 93 minutes of gross football. I would have just shrugged my shoulders and said “Oh well, there you go”.

The answer ? I’m not paid or skilled enough I’m nothing more than a fan, an observer from the stands but tbh, it’s boring to watching. Whatever Maloney does he has to try and play attractive football, give us fans something to talk about after because currently I leave the ground saying nothing.

We desperately need a forward, a threat, someone who can get 10-15 and put fear into opposition defenders.
We are toothless, zero threat from any of our forwards. If there’s one position Danson needs to splash the cash on it’s a forward but I think if he does it will come at the expense of Tickle or Hughes leaving.

On one hand I’m happy and grateful I’m going to watch us after what we’ve been through but right now I’m thinking I’m not too arsed I’m here and it’s not entertaining. Yes we get results, yes we’re safe, but to do this entertainment value is 0/10 utter dross.
I saw guys with kids there yesterday, hopefully our future fans,
            But “Quid a Kid” ?
I wouldn’t be surprised if a few rang up today for a 50p refund.

Us and tickets = sh*t for the past 5-6 years (probably longer) we’ve never even come close to getting it right.

Musn’t be important to the club you know fans and making arrangements

One last thing, I love the way the club are currently bragging on social media about 42% of the current first team players been from the youth system
                Great
But let’s face it that wasn’t a choice that was forced upon us. Had we not been in the sh!tpit we were none of those would have played including Tickle and Hughes and Adeeko.

This youth setup players coming through is something alot of Latics fans have been screaming at the club to do since way back to Whelan taking over.

Whelan promised us a youth set up to die for but put it all on the back burner in pursuit of Premiership glory and retain our status.
While we were in the Prem Whelan should have invested some of that Premiership money into a Cat1 academy and who knows things might have turned out different had we done so and might have bounced back up a year or two later

I think we have to take a cautious approach when moving forward, baby steps rather than strides.

First issue is to smash the stupid wage bill which should happen this summer by getting rid of those on Championship 5 figure weekly wages. The recent accounts released read like a Stephen King novel.

The worse possible thing that could have happened to us this season was go up. We badly needed this season to consolidate and clearout then build from there.

So if the monies not there in a Danson war chest then our only way forward is:-

                  ## Recruitment ##

This is the crucial component to the way the club moves forward over the next few years. Right now it’s a shambles, lack of scouting and the youth system recruiting needs a massive kick up the arse.

If the trying to buy success has come to an abrupt end then the way we recruit players needs a huge overhauling asap. What we’ll save on the likes of Wykes wages alone would go along way to employing 1 or 2 staff to set things up and get the ball moving.

I’m holding out any point of view regarding Danson for now. We had a transfer embargo stopping him from showing if he’s prepared to spend or not and we’ve a fair few big earners still on the payroll that need to be gone so let’s see what the summer holds when the sand bags have been clod out the basket.

The proof in the pudding will be what happens next, by that I mean this summer, the way we target and recruit young players and first team players who will hit the ground running and the big million dollar question, what will Maloney’s budget be, a healthy one or a fasting diet.

As I previously said, if we tread water or the ship carries on rudderless for the next few seasons then I’ll agree with some of the doubting fans but we have give him a chance he’s not been here 5 minutes and hands tied.

Danson’s sat on billions of pounds by getting it right more times than wrong so let’s not bite of the hand that gives, let’s not turn into Everton fans.

We should be grateful rather than spiteful, he didn’t need to save us

And while we’re on the subject of contracts if Dansons happy with Maloney’s work then he needs to convince him to stay as he’s linked with Watford.

I like Kerr but I’ve a feeling he’s either got some underlying niggling injuries probably from long term inactivity or he’s already sorted a long term deal back up in Scotland.

Kerr did mention something in the press about proving his fitness first so I’d tend to think he needs to prove to the club everything’s fine before any contract negotiations are even considered.

Another thing as well, he’s just turned 27 so his next contact will be his money spinner say a 3-4 year deal that will set him up for his years after football and I don’t think we’ll be able to pay him enough.

It’s going to be interesting how much Maloney will have to play with. I think it will be pittance far less than similar size clubs.

I hope I’m wrong and Danson see’s Maloney as the one who can push us towards Championship football and he gives him a few bob I just have a feeling he won’t

Next year our weekly wage bill will be hugely reduced with all the big earners i.e.:-
Wyke, Magennis, J.Jones, Kerr and whoever no longer on the pay role that’s unless we need them and they agree huge pay cuts.
No doubt Maloney will keep Magennis because he offers alot behind the scenes but fcuk all on the pitch were in counts.

I have to agree that Maloney will see fcuk all of any possible Robinson windfall. That money will go straight back into running the club.

We can only guess were Maloney will be shopping this summer either Harrods or B&M Bargains. At the end of the day Danson is a businessman and and clever one at that but running a football is a money pit.

Hopefully he will see to progress over the next few years we need to invest in the squad otherwise we’ll be rattling around in L1 L2 for the foreseeable future

Yep the days of the big & small guy are things of the past. I think most managers can’t go any other way or the run the risk of been overrun in the middle.
Were in this habit of, a dozen passes along the back in the hope we draw the opposition out but they never do so it’s all for nothing.

I’m not impressed with our current midfield. I think it’s on the weak side so I’m hoping Shaw can come back in and add abit of steel but who he replaces I just do not know as Maloney is very loyal to a few.

But as I said before, we lack a forward, an out and out forward. Not a wideman of 3 or a big hold up guy a forward, a poacher, a guy who reads the game and is there to tap it home, and the massive thing we lack

                          PACE

But at the end of the day we’ve achieved our goal, to stay up. Let’s not forget we were handicapped by the EFL and we’ve comfortably done it with games in hand.

It will be interesting to see what Maloney’s budget will be in the summer. Will it be a healthy one or heavily restricted. I don’t think he’ll be given much to actually buy players, his budget will be all about years wage budget.

This was my point when people are on about the embargo been lifted it won’t make a sod of difference as I reckon Maloney will have to wheel & deal, loans, freebies, youth the days of £500k-£1million have gone and rightly so

Well it’s how you individually look at it, were we pinned in our own half the 2nd half or did we purposely sit back and went to the defend the 1-0 lead?.

Ok Alamo was abit strong but we preferred to counter attack in the 2nd half. Blackpool were poor up front and I’m not sure Rhodes would have made that much difference.

The way Maloney used our subs it was clear he wanted to defend the lead but this invites teams to have a go.

Look, it was a well deserved 3 points, we attacked well in the first half and defended well in the second half. We tend to make changes to counter the opposition rather than “of the same”. What I mean is, we over think what their doing rather than let them think what we’re doing.

Great when you get away with it but I prefer the option of if it ain’t broke don’t fix it and let them think how can we stop them from getting a second goal.
We played really well that first half then Maloney decided to sit back in the second basically saying to Blackpool, go on then, try score !!.

That’s five 1-0’s in our last 7 games (4 wins) so I’m not going to grumble especially after a period of leaking goals for fun but let’s concentrate on what we’re doing rather than what their doing and kill games off because 1-0’s ain’t good for the old ticker

I have to agree with alot already said above. We basically don’t have a forward no focal point. Humphrys and Aasgaard are certainly not what I’d class as forwards. J.Jones played very well for me, I love the positivity he brings to a fairly negative side as he’s always prepared to take players on and attack with pace.

I’d break the bank for Chambers he’s gonna go all the way. He never makes a mistake and always looks to go forward

I hope S.Smith can make that right back position his own over Claire he’s a far better more aggressive player than Claire.

My tin hat goes on here for my next remark but I don’t get Adeeko. The manager see’s something I don’t. For me he gives the ball away far far too easy and too often. He rarely wins it back and it’s alot of headless chicken stuff for me looking busy but not actually doing much.

That second half was like the Alamo and we got pummelled but held on. Was it good defending or poor finishing?, today I’ll say it was more like poor finishing especially the sitter of a header tr TV TVhey missed.

At the end of the day it’s 3 points against a side who’s fighting for a play off spot so we can’t grumble but playing like that 2nd is a dangerous game to play.

There’s a basis of a very good side. The problem Maloney has is finding a steady regular starting 11, he prefers using 16 players per game

As for Magennis coming on ? It’s like going down to 10 men hence no rest bite up front.

I have to totally agree, it’s like playing with 10 men but Maloney is showing alot of loyalty towards him.

As Maloney said he’s great to have around and to learn off for the young lads but so is McManaman but at least he does a job on the pitch unlike Magennis who is actually a hindrance.

If he’s offered a deal in the summer someone at the club needs to give their head a wobble. Whatever we’re paying him is too much and that open goal miss on a player against Orient said it all.

It’s time for Magennis to drop a league or two or go and get his badges
