Martinez will take his troops north of the border on Sunday, August 8.

“I know from my time playing in Scotland how passionate the Dundee United supporters are and how intense the atmosphere they create at Tannadice is,” Martinez told The Courier.

“Together with the fact they have an extremely competitive side who are on the back of a very successful season, means this will be an exciting and demanding contest.

“This will be ideal preparation for both clubs just in time for the beginning of the new season.”

Fair point Donnelly if you’re talking about jackets etc.

I bet my predication about the shirt is accurate though.

Yeah the likes of the jackets were terrible but ur 100% spot on with the shirt :)

My predication is that it will be blue and white, with a tree and crown as a badge, 188 Bet across the front, and will cost in the region of £30 – £40. Other than that, does it really matter who makes it?

It does tbh…Because the likes of that Vandanel wear was terrible last season…The rain jacket was terrible and the likes of Champion’s gear was awesome!!

Wigan Athletic are on the verge of smashing their transfer record to capture Argentina striker Mauro Boselli, who according to sources in South America is all set to arrive in Wigan on Wednesday to undergo a medical and put pen to paper on a deal that will see almost $10 million being paid for the highly sort after players services to both Estudiantes and Boca Juniors.

Club confirm Dundee United and Chester FC dates

Wigan Athletic will travel to Tannadice Park to take on SPL side Dundee United in a pre-season friendly match on August 8th.

Roberto Martinez’s men will face stern opposition from ‘The Terrors’, who lifted last season’s Scottish Cup with a 3-0 win over Ross County at Hampden Park, and finished third in the SPL to qualify for the UEFA Europa League.

The gaffer is looking forward to the encounter:

“This will be ideal preparation for both clubs just in time for the beginning of the new season,” said Martinez.

“I know from my time playing in Scotland how passionate the Dundee United supporters are and how intense the atmosphere they create at Tannadice Park is.

“Together with the fact they have an extremely competitive side who are on the back of a very successful season, means this will be an exciting and demanding contest.”

It has also been announced that a Wigan Athletic XI will take on Chester FC prior to the Dundee Utd game on Sunday August 1st at the Deva Stadium with a 1.00pm kick-off.

The game will see Roberto Martinez and Graham Barrow return to their former stomping-ground, where Barrow lead the Blues to promotion to Division Three in 1993-94.

    Martinez finished his playing career at the Deva Stadium in 2007 and is looking forward to the game;

“Chester City is a club close to mine and Graham Barrow’s heart, and what has happened to them is very sad.

“Hopefully this game will be a boost for the new Chester FC and attract a crowd into the Deva Stadium, somewhere that holds plenty of memories.

“It will also be a great work-out for ourselves in time for the new season.”

Kick-off times and ticket details for both games will be released closer to the dates.
