Last season, Wigan were in a relegation scrap with Nick Powell & Reece James in the side. Realistically did you expect to be in any different situation this season?

If the answer is “no”, please amplify as I cant see how a team who lost its two best players would do better the following year.

The money spent mutt should have at least nullified the losses of Reece and Nick. No to me it’s simply down to tactics and that leaves only one man to blame.[/quote]

I’m not exactly sure who has been bought to replace them Nuneaton, but I’m pretty certain you haven’t replaced Powell and James with a similar standard player, who would cost well in excess of £10m. Keiffer Moore is not proven at this level, and could arguably be seen as a like-for-like replacement for Grigg (who is most certainly not on fire!).

In terms of replacement should Cook get potted, a more realistic appointment would be someone like Nigel Adkins. O’Neill & Hughes wont come unless they can spend spend spend, Gerrard wont entertain a relegation on his CV before he returns to Anfield, Hughton will get a job in the premier league and Keane’s style is not suited to today’s modern footballer, where decapitation at half time isn’t an option for an underperforming player!

He’s been elected speaker, and tradition dictates that he be unopposed in General Elections, so Sir Lindsay Hoyle will be the MP for Chorley for the next parliament.

Tradition also dictates that the speaker doesn’t vote in the Commons unless there is a tie, so your MP wont be a Corbynite or a Brexiteer.

Hoyle is a deputy speaker and doesn’t vote in the House of Commons.

Nandy voted for Boris’s deal last week.

    Just saying….

Cook is one of dozens of names mentioned, but in no way shape or form is he the one we are clamouring for. Names that have been mentioned more than Cook include:

    Allardyce
    Keane
    Kevin Phillips
    Nigel Adkins
    Nigel Pearson
    Kevin Ball
    Phil Parkinson
    Gus Poyet
    Ian Holloway
    Gary Rowett

And if we are looking at in-work managers:

    Gareth Ainsworth
    Nigel Clough
    Alex Neill

I’d be amazed if Cook was even considered, unless he was out of work. After the dud we bought for £3m, I don’t think giving Wigan Athletic any more cash is high on the owner’s agenda!

Where you one of the 5000 that attended or one of the 6000 that didn’t attend?

Agree that it was a shit performance by Wigan. In fact the whole season has been one of mediocrity.

Hope we haven’t roughed up the pitch too much ;-)

in reply to: Roy Keane’ thoughts #180974

Keane is now a has-been, whose views and opinions are not compatible with the modern game. The way Fergie managed him, and the way he captained Man Utd in the 90s was exactly what was needed at the time. However in generation snowflake, where everyone has an agenda and many are purposefully setting out to feel offended, his approach doesn’t work. Its no co-incidence since his first spell in management that started well but unravelled pretty quickly, he has been a flop.

Mutty, no one in the right mind would put a tenner on us finishing above any one at the the moment, we are shite, and getting worse.

Fair enough. I didn’t realise that you had gone from top half certainties, top six possibles and promotion outsiders (at 5pm on 3 Aug) to relegation fodder at 5pm 4 weeks later. I would have thought that finishing above the three promoted clubs would have been a given for an established Championship club. I would have also said that any club aspiring to finish top half would look to finish above Huddersfield, who are sat on just 1 point from their six games.

As JR has been online since my offer and not responded, the bet is now withdrawn.

6-1 to finish top half now, 25-1 for top 6 and 66-1 for promotion. 15-8 to be relegated.

Fancy us to finish above Brentford this season Mutty, are we on again?

Seems that you don’t fancy taking me on in a top half/bottom half wager. Frankly, I don’t blame you. 8/1 for a top 6 finish for a side that scraped to survival was pretty bloody stingy odds.

    So, how about this then:

£10 says Wigan will finish below at least one of Charlton, Luton, Barnsley.

    and…

£10 says Wigan will finish below all of Huddersfield, Cardiff and Fulham.

    Are we on JR…?
