Let’s get things into perspective here. We played seven academy graduates today against a very experienced Derby side and still only lost 1 – 0 .We have no strength in depth and in games like today it shows.Let’s stop sniping at Sean Maloney and start getting behind him and the team. He is trying to manage with both hands tied behind his back . No resources ,transfer embargo .eight point deduction and yet we are still out of the relegation places. The aim this season is to stay in this league, we are still on track. We have a massive game on Friday let’s get right behind the boys, come on Latics !
8,000 allocation but the east stand with sponsors adds etc is more like 6,500.Don’t suppose the club have asked the sponsors if they are OK relinquishing advertising space for this game. After all for Latics games the East stand is called the ‘ Kingdom East Stand ‘.
Don’t think it will be a sell out but it will be a very healthy crowd with ,hopefully, TV money it’s going to be a very good earner and fully justifies Sean Maloney playing a strong side in the second round.
Really disappointed with the club over this one ,should have made it the same as Derby £20. Bolton ripped us off so we should do the same to them ,not Derby, they made ticket prices very affordable for travelling fans back in August ,we should return the favour.
Bottom line is we got a point out of a game we could well have lost . There is no doubt in my eyes that we struggle against the more physical route one teams. Whether it’s because we have so many young lads in the squad I don’t know but we have to find a way to combat it. Against sides who like play football on the deck we have done well against . Still happy we the progress we have made and there is so much potential in this squad they will only get better. Onwards and upwards !
Massive mistake with the team selection from Maloney that has cost us three points. At least he has acknowledged his error but what was he thinking in playing Charlie Wyke from the start. A couple of days before he told us that Charlie needed to train harder to earn his place, surely he should at best have been on the bench. Godo and Humphries should have started , the second half we were a different team . Baffled with the changes considering it’s the FA Cup on Saturday ,our priority has to be to stay in this league and it’s frustrating we gave away three points so cheaply.
Decisions are not going our way at the moment and I think we were robbed in that Portsmouth game last week but I am starting to look at these players and ask are they really up to it. OK ,a soft penalty but it was in the ninth minute plenty of time to turn it around. Instead we get Lang , who has only himself to blame gets sent off and then it’s an uphill battle. They get a man sent out off and we still can’t really impose ourselves on the game. We need to go back to the drawing board , stop thinking the whole world is against us , start taking these games by the scruff of the neck and win the arm wrestle that most of these Division One games are.
