As i said, maybe its me coz I’m the same with “forced” fun too like fancy dress parties, party games & (having seen a repeat of Holiday Reps last night) the 18-30 pub crawl event type things
I hate forced things too. At junior school at the Christmas Party we always had to “do the Hokey Cokey”.
I’ve hated the damn thing ever since, and the Shaun Maloney song goes right through me!
The whole reason this vermin gave himself up was that he realised that the police marksmen would very soon put bullets into him. He didn’t like that idea – thought he’d be better off with the British judicial system.
Count me among the anti-liberal vote – stop this feral underclass from breeding.
I pointed out that I seem to remember some footage from around 1969, when United trounced Liverpool at Anfield, and when Bobby Charlton fired a shot into the net at the Kop end, you could see many behind the goal applauding. He said that he has no memory of the Kop applauding Charlton’s goal.
It was 13 December 1969 and United won 4-1. I was on the Kop, and I can assure you we did not applaud.
Very simply I think was that there was a hatred for United as they were successful too and had Law, Best and Charlton. Leeds were the other object of hate.
I think that the clubs were actually quite alike, but that the fans perceived differences, if that makes sense. I was at a United game with my brother-in-law a couple of years later and some fans nearby were laughing about a group of Liverpool fans who had broken in to a clothing shop and instead of running off they had been trying on the coats. The thing was of course that you could just picture United fans doing the same. They couldn’t see that (not that I would put it to them ;) ) and celebrated how different Liverpool and United were.
Insulting someone you believe is a multi is permissible.
Insulting their family is not.
However – can I once again remind everyone that this board exists to give Latics fans a chance to debate (yes, and argue about) Latics and things relating to football in general.
At the Everton game tonight, very moving goodpost
Switched on late. What did they do?[/quote]
From BBC’s text stream:
1956:
The teams are led out on to the pitch by two mascots, one in a Liverpool shirt and one in an Everton shirt with the numbers ‘9’ and ‘6’ respectively on the back. It is a lovely touch met by stirring applause from the Goodison stands.
1958:
The names of those who died at Hillsborough are displayed on the big screen at Goodison as ‘He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother’ by the Hollies is played out.
The message ‘Merseyside United’ is shown – a very emotional moment.
I was glad to see that the club gave the same attendance figure as the one I had calculated – 29 :P
I’m getting really fed up with this now.
Can I remind you all that this message board exists to enable like-minded fans to discuss matters related to Wigan Athletic primarily, and football in general secondary. Nowhere in the remit are witch-hunts, insults, playground name-calling and the rest that we have seen on here for a while now.
Occasionally we are directed by a poster for humorous effect to another club’s board to marvel at their arrogance, blindness or whatever concerning their own team. In all my forays there I have never seen the crass vitriol and/or boring stupidity that appears on here. Whether it is in fact stupidity, or a belief that such things are “humorous” I don’t know. What I do know is that to someone looking in we must appear pathetic.
I have sometimes alluded to Liverpool’s Red and White Kop board, where the moderators ban anyone who opposes a very strict party line. I have no thought that we should go down the same line. All views about the team performance are permissible – even when they are bonkers :)
However – views that relate to individual users of the board have no place here. This is a board, as I said, for opinions about our team and about football. Topics can be deleted, after all, and users can be banned.
You’ve trawled through the archive for this thread, haven’t you, John? :cheer:
I watched Ashton town v Ashton athletic on Tuesday! Great little club Ashton!!!!4-4 I believe?
If some of you hate the game so much and are clearly not interested in our lads why dont you leave us alone and watch sub standard football every week also disgusting that some of you have to resort to foul language just no need on a public forumOh look – a nice juicy worm. Pity I’m not hungry – I’ll just swim on by. :)
Had we got a draw out of the game today (the one that mattered) or better, won, you wouldn’t
have posted this. Not sure what your point is.John Doe summed the matter up perfectly, but I would add that had we (ie Latics) won then I would have posted the same message, but probably added something about the visitors well-earned victory etc etc.
And your perception of “the one that mattered” is open to debate.
Latics in reality never expected to get anything out of the game at Old Trafford – we hoped certainly, but no-one rational could have expected. For Ashton the possibility of another cup (vase) game was important to them financially. Unfortunately it didn’t happen. That doesn’t make it unimportant.
Now Sir Dave – explain the logic in why so many are boycotting a trip to old trafford at £45 a ticket, when it only costs £5 to get there, yet will go to London, when the ticket is £20, but travel is £50.
Because the objection is to Man United and their owners bleeding the life out of football by their pricing policies.
Comparison attendances:
Wigan Warriors v Catalans tonight 7,232
Sale Sharks v Saracens last Saturday 7,451These are the comparisons that should be being made. ;)
